  • Biomass is a renewable and sustainable source of energy used to create electricity or pressurized steam. In biomass-fueled power plants, wood waste or other waste is burned to produce steam that runs a turbine to make electricity, or that provides heat to industries and homes. Biomass power plants, apart from producing energy, help to reduce the $CO_2$ emission. However, the main problem is the high-temperature corrosion due to fuel corrosivity, especially of the straw. This limits both the temperature of the steam and also the effectiveness of the power plant. The corrosion in biomass-fueled plant was described.

  • The study analyses secondary damage of surrounding facilities from the fire accident by Unloading of LPG Bulk Lorry. Potential risk and extent of damage from jet flame and radiation heat is estimated with PHAST-RISK v6.7 program of DNV. According to above study, supplies can predict the damage range from gas release by Unloading, and be able to respond quickly.

  • The satellite remote sensing data is good in order to grasp the wide natural environment. The purpose of study is that it examines spectral reflection characteristic and vegetation index by the utilization of the plant energy ( chlorophyll ) for examining the reliability of satellite data and grasps the transition of the natural environment using the result. According to result of analysis, there were NDVI and mutual relationship on chlorophyll, and luminance compensation of NDVI was effective for all area. In vegetation transition, there were no luminance compensation and relation, and there was a decrease of vegetation in area in south and north. The reason was a result by the artificial and natural effect. This analysis is an effective method in order to confirm the change of specific vegetation.

  • Concanavalin-A, lectin extracted from Korean native plant “Banha”(Pine-llia Termata) and their conjugation products with tyrosine and 5-iodo-6-aminouracil were labelled by radioactive iodiae-125, and these labelled compounds were subjected to a hemagglutination test in vitro. The labelling procedures were presented with respect to labelling yield and the trends on the conjugation reaction of lectin with various amino acids were discussed. The preliminary results on the hemagglutination tests against cancer tissues were presented and the potential clinical applications of these labelled compounds were discussed.

  • The present report concerns measurement of environmental radioactivity in the Ko-ri nuclear power plant site area. Gross beta measurements have been performed on soil, water, pine needle, and fallout samples collected during the period of December 1970-November 1972. Radioactivities of Strontium-90 and Cesium-137 have been measured by radiochemical analyses on samples of vegetables and marine products collected in 1972. Apparent seasonal variations and overall decrease by the year was also observed from the results of soil, pine needle, and fallout sample measurements respectively.

  • A technique of the heat rate allocation was devised to monitor the performance of Combined Cycle Power Plant. This calculates the expected heat rate of current conditions and compares it with actual values. Loss allocation in heat rate is reconciled by calculating the magnitude of the deficiency contributed by major components, such as the gas turbine, heat recovery steam generator (HRSG), steam turbine and condenser. Expected power output is determined by a detailed model and correction curves of the plant.

  • A distributed real-time system that is being wed now is usually divided into three level : higher level, middle level, and lower level. The higher level network is usually called an information network, the middle level is called a control network, and the lower level is called a field network or a divice network. This dissertation suggests and implements a middle level network which is called PICNET-NP (Plant Implementation and Control Network for Nuclear Power Plant). PICNET-NP is based partly on IEEE 802.4 token-passing bus access method and partly on IEEE 802.3 physical layer. For this purpose a new interface, a physical layer service translator, is introduced. A control network using this method is implemented and applied to a distributed real-time system.

  • This study evaluates the performance of a coil spring-viscous damper system for the vibration and seismic isolation of an Emergency Diesel Generator (EDG) by measuring its operational vibration and seismic responses. The vibration performance of a coil spring-viscous damper system was evaluated by the vibration measurements for an identical EDG set with different base systems - one with an anchor bolt system and the other with a coil spring-viscous damper system. The seismic performance of the coil spring-viscous damper system was evaluated by seismic tests with a scaled model of a base-isolated EDG on a shaking table. The effects of EDG base isolation on the fragility curve and core damage frequency in a nuclear power plant were also investigated through a case study.

  • Purpose The purpose of this study is to design a regional electricity planning model rather than the existing single region ones and verify its usefulness. The regional electricity planning model is to determine both electricity distribution among regions and power plant planning at the same time satisfying regional demands and distribution networks. Design/methodology/approach This study made a regional electricity planning model by integrating power plant planning and electricity distribution among regions. The regional electricity planning model is formulated into a linear programming problem, and coded and run using the OSeMOSYS, one of open source energy systems. Findings According to the empirical analysis result, this study confirmed that the regional electricity planning model proposed in this study deducts the unfairness among regions in view of electricity and green house gas. In addition, the model is expected to be used in evaluating and developing the national policies concerning fine dust and/or green house gas.

  • This study examines the policy direction and specific countermeasures for addressing possible port labour issues from the perspective of Just Transition which may be raised by closing coal fired power plants in Korea. Current energy transition policy and port labour policy in Korea are reviewed and case studies in the countries which has experienced closure of coal fired power plants are undertaken. Although it varies from country to country, a similar approach was found that the employment problem of coal fired power plant closures and measures based on Just Transition regime to mitigate the negative impacts that occur in the region are the key to successful transition. It is suggested that countermeasures for port labour should be institutionalized for providing stakeholders with legal stability covering labours not only directly employed by the plants but also employed in entities in the whole supply chains.
