This paper deals with the study on the rotordynamic and experimental analysis of turbine-generator system connected with a magnetic coupling. Although magnetic coupling has been used to torque transmission of chemical processing pump rotating at under 3,600rpm, magnetic coupling in this study is applied to high-speed turbine-generator system using a working fluid that is refrigerant such as ammonia or R-124a. Results of rotordynamic design analysis are as follows. The first, shaft diameter nearest to outer hub of magnetic coupling has a big effect on the $1^{st}$ critical speed of generator rotor. The second, if the $1^{st}$ critical speeds of turbine rotor and generator rotor have enough to separation margin in comparison to rated speed, the $1^{st}$ critical speed of turbine-magnetic coupling-generator rotor train has enough to separation margin regardless of connection stiffness of magnetic coupling. The analytical FE model is guaranteed by impact test on the prototype and condition monitoring such as measurements of vibration and bearing temperature is also performed.
Steam generator tubes are degraded from wear, stress corrosion cracking, rupture and fatigue and so on. Therefore, the failure assessment of steam generator tube is very important for the integrity of energy plants. In the steam generator tubes, sometimes, the local wall thinning may result from severe degradations such as erosion-corrosion damage and wear due to vibration. In this paper, the elasto-plastic analysis was performed by FE code ANSYS on steam generator tubes with wall thinning. Also, the four-point bending tests were performed on the wall thinned specimens, and then it was compared with the analysis results. We evaluated the failure mode, fracture strength and fracture behavior from the experiment and FE analysis. Also, it was possible to predict the crack initiation point by estimating true fracture ductility under multi-axial stress conditions at the center of the thinned area from FE analysis.
We propose an electrically self-reliant structural health monitoring (SHM) system that is able to wirelessly transmit sensing data using electrical power generated by vibration without the need for additional external power sources. The provision of reliable electricity to wireless SHM systems is a highly important issue that has often been ignored, and to expand the applicability of various wireless SHM innovations, it will be necessary to develop comprehensive wireless SHM devices including stable electricity sources. In light of this need, we propose a new, highly efficient vibration-powered generator based on a tuned-mass-damper (TMD) mechanism that is quite suitable for vibration-based SHM. The charging time of the TMD generator is shorter than that of conventional generators based on the impedance matching method, and the proposed TMD generator can harvest 16 times the amount of energy that a conventional generator can. The charging time of an SHM wireless transmitter is quantitatively formulated. We conduct wireless monitoring experiments to validate a wireless SHM system composed of a self-reliant SHM and a vibration-powered TMD generator.

We present the results of a study of a piezoelectric generator that generates electricity by the application of tension to an element. A device is named "EYE-type generator". The EYE-type generator consists of a rectangular ceramic and two elastic body plates that are attached to upper and lower surfaces of a ceramic. If tension is applied to both ends of the elastic body, that tension is transformed to pressure on the ceramic through a change in the form of the elastic body, causing a piezoelectric effect whereby electricity is generated by the ceramic. This generator is relatively durable because a forces are not applied directly to the ceramic. We examined dependencies of the generator's output characteristics on the size of the ceramic and elastic body. A resonance and output characteristics were analyzed by using a finite element method. The generator was fabricated based on results of the analysis, and this was attached to a frequency-controllable vibrator to measure the output characteristics. The measured results were compared with results of the simulation, and the results pointed to the practicality of the design.
Generator for wind power can be either synchronous or asynchronous (induction) types. Induction and synchronous generators behave in a different way when subjected to severe faults. Induction generators does not have an angle stability limit and short circuit in the neighborhood of an Induction generator causes the demagnetization of the machine when the fault is cleared, the voltage raises slowly, while the grid contributes with reactive power to the generator and the magnetic flux recovers. On the other hand in the synchronous generators the recovery of the voltage is immediate, since the excitation of the rotor angle comes from an independent circuit. This paper shows the result of the transient state analysis in the network connected to wind generation system Several case studies have been conducted to determine the effect of the clearing time of a fault on the network stability. It has been found that the critical clearing time can be as low as 61ms in the case of induction generator compared to 370ms in the case of synchronous generator.

In this paper, we show that, in case of piezoelectric micropower generator, just replacing Schottky diodes in the bridge rectifier with ultra-low reverse leakage current diodes improves the mechanical-to-electrical energy conversion efficiency by more than 100%. Experimental and PSPICE simulation results show that, due to the ultra-low leakage current, the charging speed of the circuit employing PAD1 is higher than that of the circuit employing Schottky diodes and the saturation voltage of the circuit employing PAD1 is also higher. This study suggests that , when the internal impedance of source is very large (a few tens of $M{\Omega}$) such that maximum charging current is a few microamperes or less, in order to realize literally the energy scavenging system, ultra-low reverse leakage current diodes should be used for efficient energy conversion. Since low-level vibration is ubiquitous in the environment ranging from human movement to large infrastructures and the mechanical-to-electrical energy conversion efficiency is much more critical for use of these vibrations, we believe that the improvement in the efficiency using ultra-low leakage diodes, as found in this work, will widen greatly the application of piezoelectric micropower generator.

Transient security assessment(TSA) is becoming an essential requirement not only for security monitoring but also for stabilizing control of power systems under new electricity environments. It has already been pointed out that fast transient stability study is an important part for monitoring and controlling system security. In this paper, we discuss an energy function method for stabilizing control of transiently unstable systems by introducing generator tripping system to enhance the transient stability of power systems. The stabilization with less tripped power can be obtained by tripping the generators faster than out-of-synchronism relay. Fast transient stability assessment based on the state estimation and direct transient energy function method is an important part of the stabilizing scheme. It is possible to stabilize the transiently unstable system by tripping less generators before the action of out-of-synchronism relay, especially when a group of generator are going to be out-of-synchronism. Moreover, the amount of generator output needed for tripping can be decided by Transient Energy Function(TEF) method. The main contribution of this paper is on the stabilizing scheme which can be running in the Wide Area Control System.

Through this paper, we studied on the basic concept of vibration-induced power generation for urban infrastructures. Since the travelling of automobiles on the bridge cause vibration, it is possible to convert the vibration energy into green-electric energy by utilizing magnetic induction technology. In this paper we define the concept of green-bridge vibration power generation system which contains the concept of magnetic induction technology and propose a vibration power generation device for converting the bridge vibration energy into the electric energy. Also, an experiment was held by applying the vibration power generator on a real bridge. The results showed the applicability and effectiveness of the vibration power generator.
Steam generator (SG) tubes in a nuclear power plant can undergo rapid changes in pressure and temperature during an accident; thus, an accurate model to predict short-term creep damage is essential. The theta (𝜃) projection method has been widely used for modeling creep-strain behavior under constant stress. However, many creep test data are obtained under constant load, so creep rupture behavior under a constant load cannot be accurately simulated due to the different stress conditions. This paper proposes a novel methodology to obtain the creep curve under constant stress using a modified 𝜃 projection method that considers the increase in true stress during creep deformation in a constant-load creep test. The methodology is validated using finite element analysis, and the limitations of the methodology are also discussed. The paper also proposes a creep-strain model for alloy 690 as an SG material and a novel creep hardening rule we call the damage-fraction hardening rule. The creep hardening rule is applied to evaluate the creep rupture behavior of SG tubes. The results of this study show its great potential to evaluate the rupture behavior of an SG tube governed by creep deformation.

Recently, the study of energy saving technology of ships begins in earnest, as energy saving policies are performed all around the world. SEMS (Ship Energy Management System) is one of the techniques to increase energy efficiency by applying to a independent system like a ship and offshore. SEMS is composed of Cooling Pump Control System (CPCS), Renewable Energy Emergency Power Control System (REEPCS), Load Control System (LCS), and Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning System (HVACS). SEMS is enable to increase energy efficiency and achieve integrated management through the interlocking of each system. Especially, it is possible to improve the flexibility of the selection of the generator capacity in conjunction with a rechargeable battery and renewable energy. In this paper, SEMS applied rechargeable battery is proposed and simulated. By applying the rechargeable battery, it was confirmed that SEMS applied rechargeable battery can be operated at optimum efficiency of the generator.
