It has been mentioned that CSTR (Completely Stirred Tank Reactor) and UASB (Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket) processes, the existing anaerobic processes, have problems in the treatment of highly concentrated particulate organic wastewater (HCPOW). Therefore, this paper discusses the treatment possibility of distillery wastewater which is a typical HCPOW using ADEPT (anaerobic Digestion Elutriated Phased Treatment) process. In the comparison of CSTR and ADEPT, ADEPT produced much higher gas than that of CSTR removing more organic matters and suspended solids in ADEPT process, ADEPT had no effect on the decrease in pH by volatile fatty acids and showed steady pH in spite of relatively short HRT. In the results of removal rate according to recycle ratios between 6Qin and 2Qin in ADEPT, 6Qin showed high removal rate during the operation time. Therefore it appears that ADEPT had an applicability for the treatment of distillery wastewater. ADEPT could be a economical process, due to the short HRT, the energy recovery by the methane production, and the utilization for carbon source of produced organic acid from the ADEPT-acid reactor.
As with any ships, adequate power provision is crucial, especially on the ocean navigating ships far from the land. In order to resolve the effective and economic power supply system of any ship in operation, in this paper, we propose a power management system that intelligently controls the power supply in ships. Power management systems in this design consist of a power load detection system, a generator configuration system, and a power monitoring system respectively. The CT / PT sensor is used to measure amount of current and power in the power detection system, and according to the collected information from various sensor, the generator configuration system will switch on and off the main / sub generator effectively. Finally, the power monitoring system will display all status information of this power management system at a glance for users. This power management systems implemented in this paper is evaluated via real-time experiments, which works well as designed, and certified by KSCIEC61892-1:2012 and KSCIEC60950-1:2008.

This study proposes a PCS that enables efficient operation of seawater pumps for ships by implementing ML-based algorithms. Seawater temperature, RPM and power consumption data are acquired from two ships with PCS, analyzed with regression analysis method, and new algorithms are presented. Using the algorithms presented, Ship A saved about 36% compared to the PCS application, and ML-based algorithms in certain sea temperatures of 19 to 27 degrees Celsius and above 32 degrees Celsius were about 1% lower than Ship A's PCS. Ship B saved about 50% compared to PCS not applied, and about 2% more than Ship B's PCS in waters above $19^{\circ}C$, a specified sea temperature. The derived data can be used to suggest the optimum pump speed and sea route. In addition, the trend of acquired data can be used to infer the performance of the pump or the timing of elimination of the MGPS when efficiency becomes poor.

The application of shunt active power filters (S-APFs) is considered to be the most popular approach for harmonic compensation due to its high simplicity, ease of installation and efficient control. Its functionality mainly depends upon the rapidness and precision of its internally built control algorithms. A S-APF is generally operated in the current controlled mode (CCM) with the detection of harmonic load current. Its operation may not be appropriate for the distributed power generation system (DPGS) due to the wide dispersion of nonlinear loads. Despite the fact that the voltage detection based resistive-APF (R-APF) appears to be more appropriate for use in the DPGS, the R-APF experiences poor performance in terms of mitigating harmonics and parameter tuning. Therefore, this paper introduces a direct harmonic voltage detection based control approach for the S-APF that does not need a remote harmonic load current since it only requires a local point of common coupling (PCC) voltage for the detection of harmonics. The complete design procedure of the proposed control approach is presented. In addition, experimental results are given in detail to validate the performance and superiority of the proposed method over the conventional R-APF control. Thus, the outcomes of this study approve the predominance of the discussed strategy.

This study is a study on the implementation and operation of smart air cleaning system to improve indoor air quality. Recently, the problem of indoor air quality is getting serious due to various environmental factors. In this study, to improve the problems of indoor air quality, we implement an air cleaning system using IoT sensor. In particular, we proposed a system that can measure air pollution in real time and change different air flow paths according to pollution level. Through this, we examined efficient air quality improvement, extension of filter life, and system energy reduction. In addition, the main functions of the indoor air quality improvement system were constructed and prototypes were manufactured to confirm the operability. Finally, the utility of fine dust resolution through the implementation of the indoor air quality improvement system was examined.
In terms of district heating operation, efficient production and supply of heat by alleviating the peak load at a specific time require an application technology that can solve the inconvenience of the user and the difficulties of the supplier. In this study, a 78 ℃ class PCM heat storage tank suitable among the technologies that can solve these problems was manufactured and applied to the hot water supply facility for apartments in district heating users. As a result of the application of this system, it was confirmed that the supply temperature was constant to the user compared to the existing supply method. In addition, it was confirmed that the reduction of the peak load due to load equalization reduced the heat supply margin of 10% in the existing heat supply facility. And the construction cost of the new heat supply facility and the construction cost of heat users is decreased by 5% and 10%, respectively.
It is a global challenge to fulfill the demand for clean water at an affordable cost to all the strata of the population. Desalination of seawater as well as brackish water by the membrane separation process is a well-established and cost-efficient method. However, there is still inherent problem of membrane fouling, disposal of the reject as well as a capital-intensive process. While electrodialysis (ED) is a membrane-based separation process in which a driving force is the potential difference. The advantages of ED process are excellent efficiency and low operation cost. Ion exchange membrane (IEM) used in the ED process needs to have higher chemical and thermal stability along with excellent mechanical strength for long-term use without losing its efficiency. The ion exchange capacity of the ED membrane is largely dependent on the conductivity of IEMs. In this review, the modification strategy of the pristine membrane to enhance the stability and ion conductivity of cation exchange membrane (CEM) and anion exchange membrane (AEM) is discussed.

Recently, on-device artificial intelligence (AI) solutions using mobile devices and embedded edge devices have emerged in various fields, such as computer vision, to address network traffic burdens, low-energy operations, and security problems. Although vision transformer deep learning models have outperformed conventional convolutional neural network (CNN) models in computer vision, they require more computations and parameters than CNN models. Thus, they are not directly applicable to embedded edge devices with limited hardware resources. Many researchers have proposed various model compression methods or lightweight architectures for vision transformers; however, there are only a few studies evaluating the effects of model compression techniques of vision transformers on performance. Regarding this problem, this paper presents a performance evaluation of vision transformers on embedded platforms. We investigated the behaviors of three vision transformers: DeiT, LeViT, and MobileViT. Each model performance was evaluated by accuracy and inference time on edge devices using the ImageNet dataset. We assessed the effects of the quantization method applied to the models on latency enhancement and accuracy degradation by profiling the proportion of response time occupied by major operations. In addition, we evaluated the performance of each model on GPU and EdgeTPU-based edge devices. In our experimental results, LeViT showed the best performance in CPU-based edge devices, and DeiT-small showed the highest performance improvement in GPU-based edge devices. In addition, only MobileViT models showed performance improvement on EdgeTPU. Summarizing the analysis results through profiling, the degree of performance improvement of each vision transformer model was highly dependent on the proportion of parts that could be optimized in the target edge device. In summary, to apply vision transformers to on-device AI solutions, either proper operation composition and optimizations specific to target edge devices must be considered.
The purpose of this research is to assess the performance of CBN and ceramic tools during the dry turning of gray cast iron EN GJL-350. During the turning operation, the variable machining parameters are cutting speed, feed rate, depth of cut and type of the cutting material. This contribution consists of two sections, the first one deals with the performance evaluation of four materials in terms of evolution of flank wear, surface roughness (2D and 3D) and cutting forces. The focus of the second section is on statistical analysis, followed by modeling and optimization. The experiments are conducted according to the Taguchi design L32 and based on ANOVA approach to quantify the impact of input factors on the output parameters, namely, the surface roughness (Ra), the cutting force (Fz), the cutting power (Pc), specific cutting energy (Ecs). The RSM method was used to create prediction models of several technical factors (Ra, Fz, Pc, Ecs and MRR). Subsequently, the desirability function approach was used to achieve a multi-objective optimization that encompasses the output parameters simultaneously. The aim is to obtain optimal cutting regimes, following several cases of optimization often encountered in industry. The results found show that the CBN tool is the most efficient cutting material compared to the three ceramics. The optimal combination for the first case where the importance is the same for the different outputs is Vc=660 m/min, f=0.116 mm/rev, ap=0.232 mm and the material CBN. The optimization results have been verified by carrying out confirmation tests.

As the use of school buses becomes more common, related laws are being enacted, such as making it mandatory for children to check school bus dropouts due to frequent accidents caused by the negligence of school bus drivers and their guardians. In this paper, we propose a safe school bus system that links efficient radio-frequency identification (RFID) and mobile APP in terms of energy utilization and cost. The school bus system uses RFID cards to check information on children boarding the school bus, and real-time SMS transmission allows parents to safely send their children to and from school. Instructors on the school bus can check their children's disembarkation information once more through APP, preventing various accidents that may occur to children left on the bus. Due to the automation of the school bus operation log, daycare center teachers can not only check the information on getting on and off, but also manage the information on the attendance and discharge of the students.
