  • This study aims to measure amount of the reduction ratio of energy consumptions by the daylight responsive dimming systems, which uses daylighting and electric lighting. The results of this study show that the reduction ratio of electric power is better 'clear sky' by sky condition and 'window side of room' by zoning. When calculating reduction ratio of energy consumptions with used times in real office space, it tells that the result of real office was higher ratio than that of experimental space. For this study which presents efficient use of daylight in office environment, it will be basis of improving energy performance.

  • Effort to reduce energy consumptions or CO2 emissions is global trend. To follow this trend, spatial studies related to characteristics affecting energy consumptions or CO2 emissions have been conducted, but only with the focus on spatial dependence, not on spatial heterogeneity. The aim of this study is to investigate spatial heterogeneity patterns of CO2 emission based on socio-economic factors, land-use characteristics and traffic infrastructure of Seoul city. Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) analysis was performed with 423 administrative district data in Seoul. The results suggest that population and employment densities, road density and railway length in most districts are found to have positive impact on the CO2 emissions. Residential and green area densities also have the highest positive impact on CO2 emissions in most districts of Gangnam-gu. The resulting model can be used to identify the spatial patterns of CO2 emissions at district level in Seoul. Eventually it can contribute to local energy policy and planning of metropolitan area.

  • There are many different kinds of forming processes to make a tubular product such as hydroforming and tube drawing. However, we should consider a better forming process in view point of energy consumption and $CO_2$ emission to save our earth. In this paper we have conducted FEM simulations to the various forming processes for sheet and tubular products to compare their energy consumptions. One example is tubular product and the other for drawn cup. From the comparisons of total energy for hydrofroming and tube sinking processes, hydroforming is consumed more energy than tube drawing. Also the cup drawing from sheet metal and tube sinking for the cup with flange indicate that the tube sinking is better than cup drawing of sheet metal in energy consumption.

  • The aim of this study was to compare and analyze air temperature and humidity distribution and energy consumptions according to using air circulation fans in single-span greenhouses. The greenhouses located in Cheongnam-myeon, Cheongyang-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, Korea. There were cherry tomatoes in the greenhouses and the size of greenhouses was as follows;ridge height : 3.2 m, wide : 6 m, length : 95 m. The heating system was composed of a hot-water boiler and 6 FCUs(Fan Coil Unit)-4 FCUs were on bottom with duct and 2 FCUs were installed at 2.0 m. A total of 18 air circulation fans(impeller's diameter : 230 mm) were bilaterally arranged in 2 rows in the experimental greenhouse. The sensors for measuring air temperature and humidity were located at a quarter and three quarters of a length. The height of sensors were 0.8 m, 1.8 m. To calculate energy consumption in greenhouses, water temperature at inlet and outlet in a water pump, volume of water were measured. Form February 3rd to March 23th, temperature, humidity and energy consumptions were measured during heating time(6pm~7am). In a greenhouse without fans, the average differences of temperature and humidity were $0.75^{\circ}C$, 2.31%, respectively. The operation of fans showed their differences to $0.42^{\circ}C$, 1.8%. The standard deviation of temperature and humidity between measuring points in the greenhouse with fans was lower than the greenhouse without fans. Total energy consumptions in a greenhouse without fans were 4,673 kWh. In the greenhouse with fans, the total energy consumptions were 4,009 kWh. The energy consumptions in a greenhouse with fans 14.2% were less than the greenhouse without fans. Therefore, air circulation makes temperature and humidity uniform and saves energy consumptions for heating.

  • The effects of operational conditions of cooling water system on energy consumption for central cooling system are researched by using TRNSYS program. Cooling tower water pump flow rate, cooling tower fan flow rate, and condenser water temperature with various dry-bulb and wet-bulb temperatures are varied and their effects on total and component power consumption are studied. If the fan maximum flow rates of cooling tower is decreased, cooling tower fan and total power consumptions are increased. If the cooling tower water pump maximum flow rates is decreased, chiller and total power consumptions are increased. If condenser water set-point temperature is increased, chiller power consumption is increased and cooling tower fan power consumption is decreased, respectively.

  • The paper examined the relationship between total and sector level electricity consumptions and economic growth in Korea for the period of 1980-2009. The results of unit-roots and cointegration tests show that all variables-real GDP, total, primary, manufacture, and service sector electricity consumptions-were not stationary and there were no linear combinations in the long run between electricity consumptions and economic growth. Thus, by using standard Granger-causality test we found that total, primary, and manufacture sector electricity consumptions were Granger-caused by economic growth, not vice versa. This means that causality runs from economic growth to each electricity consumption. However, there is no causal relationship between service sector electricity consumption and economic growth. These results imply that the government policies aimed at reducing electricity consumptions and increasing energy efficiency etc. can be feasible without deterring economic growth in Korea.

  • Purpose: The first grade of Korea's Building Energy Efficiency Rating System(BEERS) is required for new government office buildings as a mandatory measure to reduce greenhouse gas emission. However, there is no specific criteria about performance that which level should apply to energy-saving design element for obtaining Building Energy Efficiency Rating 1st grade. Therefore, Certification status should be analyzed firstly, about the office building which is certificated. Certification analysis for office buildings acquired certification therefore should be done first. Method: In this study, Certification status(Office buildings acquired Building Energy Efficiency Rating Certification)was analyzed by classified year, region, specific scale etc. And we analyzed statistically by eliciting an average value of each element influencing to the amount of energy. Result: Energy demands were gradually decreased due to revision of thermal insulation standards for enhanced u-value. Energy consumptions were different from the kind of equipment and yearly trends applied depending on the size of the building. Total primary energy consumptions were influenced by heat source types and the primary energy scale factors.

  • The current building energy efficiency rating certification regulation on apartment houses evaluates only the saving rate of energy consumed during operation, i.e. use, of a building, but doesn't consider the energy consumptions and environmental load($CO_2$) emissions occurring during the whole lifetime of a building. So this study calculated the energy consumptions and environmental load emissions occurring during the whole lifetime of a building, selected reference schemes and alternative items by design variables to present a design draft considering energy efficiency and environmental performance, and evaluated the total cost by combining and calculating its direct cost(material and heating cost) and indirect cost(environmental cost), for an existing apartment house as an evaluation object. As a result of analysis, the change of heating cost by alternative items of design variables showed a 4~8% change rate compared to the reference scheme, and the material cost of design variable 7 showed a maximum 4.4 times change rate in the alternative plan 6 compared to the reference scheme. The environmental cost showed a similar change rate to the material cost change rate in general, but showed a similar environmental cost change rate to the heating cost change rate in case of design variables 4-1, 4-2, 7.

  • Due to reinforcement of international environment regulation and high oil prices, interest in renewable energy is growing. Countries participating in UNFCCC are continuously putting efforts in reducing greenhouse gas after enforcing Kyoto Protocol into effect on Feb, 2005. Energy used in buildings, which relies heavily on fossil fuel accounts for about 24% of total energy consumption. In this study, air, geothermal and water source heat pump systems for an 322 $m^2$ auditorium in an office building is simulated using TRNSYS version 17 for comparing energy consumptions. The results show that energy consumptions of air, geothermal and water source heat pumps are 14,485, 10,249, and 10,405 kWh, respectively. Annual equal payments which consider both initial and running costs become 5,734,521, 6,403,257 and 5,596,058 Won. Thus, water source heat pump is the best economical choice.
