  • Solving a system of linear or non-linear equations is required to analyze any kind of structures. There are many ways to solve a system of equations, and they can be classified as implicit and explicit techniques. The explicit methods eliminate round-off errors and use less memory. The dynamic relaxation method (DR) is one of the powerful and simple explicit processes. The important point is that the DR does not require to store the global stiffness matrix, for which it just uses the residual loads vector. In this paper, a new approach to the DR method is expressed. In this approach, the damping, mass and time steps are similar to those of the traditional method of dynamic relaxation. The difference of this proposed method is focused on the method of calculating the damping. The proposed method is expressed such that the time step is constant, damping is equal to zero except in steps with maximum energy and the concentrated damping can be applied to minimize the energy of system in this step. In this condition, the calculation of damping in all steps is not required. Then the volume of computation is reduced. The DR method for form-finding of membrane structures is employed in this paper. The form-finding of the three plans related to the membrane structures with different loading is considered to investigate the efficiency of the proposed method. The numerical results show that the convergence rate based on the proposed method increases in all cases than other methods.

  • This paper presents the method for the fluctuation smoothing control by using relaxation time variable control of battery. When the output power of wind farm is changed suddenly, it is necessary to control the output power of wind farm. The smoothing relaxation time is changed within limits of battery output power. Using the hybrid energy storage system (HESS) combined with battery energy storage system and electric double layer capacitor, it is possible to control the output power of wind farm. The capacity of battery is determined by considering the case of the disconnecting wind farm from the grid. To verify the proposed method, simulations are carried out by using PSCAD/EMTDC with actual data of wind farm in the Jeju Island.

  • Dielectric relaxation measurements on 3-nitrotoluene (3-NT) mixture of dimethylacetamide (DMA), dimethylformamide (DMF) and dimethysulphoxide (DMSO) have been carried out across the entire concentration range using Time domain reflectometry technique at 15, 25, 35 and $45^{\circ}C$ over the frequency range from 10 MHz to 20 GHz. For all the mixtures, only one dielectric loss peak was observed in this frequency range and the relaxation in these mixtures can be well described by a single relaxation time using Debye model. Bilinear calibration method is used to obtain complex permittivity ${\varepsilon}^{*}({\omega})$ from complex reflection coefficient ${\rho}^{*}({\omega})$ over frequency range 10 MHz to 20 GHz. The excess permittivity, excess inverse relaxation time, Kirkwood correlation factor, molar energy of activation are also calculated for these mixtures to study the solute-solvent interaction.

  • The effects of surface relaxation on surface and interface magnetism in Fe/Cr (001) are investigated using the highly precise all-electron total-energy full-potential linearized augmented plane wave method. The Fe-Cr interlayer spacing is deter-mined by total-energy calculation and it is found to be relaxed downward by 18%. For the relaxed system, the magnetic moment of surface Fe is highly suppressed to be $1.72\mu_B$compared to the unrelaxed case ($2.39\mu_B$). This reduction of magnetic moment is considered as a result of the enhanced hybridization between Fe-d and Cr-d states, which can be seen from the calculated density of states. This work suggests the importance of effect of relaxation to the surface and interface magnetism in Fe/Cr system.

  • Relaxation technique is an independent nursing intervention used in various stressful situations. The concept of relaxation must be explored for the meaning given by the people in their traditional thought and philosophy. Korean relaxation technique, wanting to become culturally acceptable and effective, is learning to recognize and develop Korean concepts, experiences, and musics of relaxation. This study was aimed at discovering Korean concepts, experiences and musics of relaxation and contributing the development of the relaxation technique for Korean people. The subjects were 59 mursing students, 39 hospitalized patients, 61 housewives, 21 rural residents and 16 researchers. Data were collected from September 4th to October 24th, 1991 by interviews or questionaires. The data analysis was done by qualitative research method, and validity assured by conformation of the concept and category by 2nursing scientists who had written a Master's thesis on the relaxation technique. The results of the study were summerized as follows; 1. The meaning of the relaxation concept; From 298 statements, 107 concepts were extracted and then 5 categories "Physical domain", "Psychological domain", "Complex domain", "Situation", and "environment" were organized. 'Don't have discomforts, 'don't have muscle tension', 'don't have energy(him in Korean)', 'don't have activities' subcategories were included in "Physical domain". 'Don't have anxiey', 'feel good', 'emotional stability', 'don't have wordly thoughts', 'feel one's brain muddled', 'loss of desire' subcategories were included in "physical domain" 'Comfort body and mind', 'don't have tension of body and mind', 'be sagged' 'liveliness of thoughts' subcategories were included in "Complex domain". 'Rest', 'sleep', 'others' subcategories were included in "Situation domain". And 'quite environment' & 'comfortable environment' subcategories were included in "Environmental domain". 2. The experiences of the relaxation; From 151 statements, 59 experiences were extracted. And then 9 categories-at rest after physical activities, after problem solving, fancy, bathing in the bed, situation, rest, particular time, others-were organized. 3. The musics of the relaxation; From 229 statements, 108 musics were extracted. and the 9 categories- Western classical music, semi classical music, Korean song, Korean popular classical music, song, western popular sonhg, hymn, characteristics of music, others - were organized. • The phenomenon of non-steady-state current flow through the interface traps during the dielectric relaxation of MOS device is presented. Experimental method is also described for determining the energy distribution of interface traps, which is based on isothermal dielectric relaxation current technique. Actually, the energy distribution of interface traps was obtained by measuring the transient current through the traps at Si-SiO$_{2}$ interface only in lower-half of the bandgap. It is shown that the trap energy distributio has peak value 1.72*10$^{13}$ cm$^{-2}$ eV$^{-1}$ near 0.73eV approximately.

  • Effect of fixation methods and relaxation treatment on the flame retardant(FR) and physical properties of MDPP/HMM treated cotton weft-knitted fabrics were studied. Combination of four different fixation methods - relaxation, swelling agent treatment, pad dry cure fixation, and wet fixation - were applied to flame retardant finish of cotton weft-knitted fabric with MDPP/HMM. As the results, 1. Swelling agent and wet fixation method helps FR agent penetrate the fiber efficiently. Interlock showed relatively higher values of LOI than single jersey. 2. Interlock showed relatively higher values of bending rigidity(B), shear rigidity(G) and coefficient of friction(MIU) than those of single jersey before and after flame resistant treatment. 3. An increase in internal volume of cotton fiber by relaxation treatment increased the bending rigidity(B), shear rigidity(G) and compressional energy(WC). 4. The cotton weft-knitted fabric treated wet fixation, which crossliked FR agent efficiently, showed higher bending rigidity, shear rigidity(G) and lower compressional energy(WC). Retention of swelling ability of cotton weft-knitted fabrics treated with MDPP/HMM, which increased the internal volume of cotton weft-knitted fabric, showed lower bending rigidity.

  • Upon Debye's dielectric relaxation theory, we tried simple determination method of trap level in organic EL materials. From dielectric measurements in the 20 Hz - 1 MHz frequency range and in the 150 K - 320K temperature range, the depth of traps in Alq$_3$ filled with remaining electrons was determinated. Comparing to other determination techniques like TSL, or TL, the apparatus all we need is just simple LCR meter, thermometer and cooling method(liquid nitrogen). The mean activation energy is about 0.20 eV. It is in good agreement with previous determinations by other techniques like TSL. This results consolidate the validity of Burrow's transport mechanism model. Further intensified experiment with UV light on the dielectric absorption(Photodipolair effect) was nevertheless disturbed by the photoconductivity component.

  • The phenomenon of electrical explosion of conductors is considered in the context of the changes in the energy and structural states of the metal at the stages of energy delivery and relaxation of the primary products of EEC. It is shown that these changes are related to the forced interaction of an intense energy flux with matter and to the subsequent spontaneous relaxation processes. The characteristics of nano-sized metal powders are also discussed.
