The building energy performance indicator, called Energy Performance Index (EPI), has been used for the past decades in South Korea. It has a list of design variables assigned with weighting factors (a, b). Unfortunately, the current EPI method is not performance-based but very close to a prescriptive rating. With this in mind, this study aims to propose a new performance-based EPI method. For this purpose, a global sensitivity analysis method, Sobol, is employed. The Sobol method is suitable for complex nonlinear models and can decompose all the output variance due to every input. The Sobol sensitivity index of each variable is defined as 0 to 1 (0 to 100%), and the sum of all sensitivity indices is equal to 1 (100%). In this study, an office building was modeled using EnergyPlus and then the Latin Hypercube Sampling (LHS) was conducted to generate a surrogate model to EnergyPlus. The sensitivity index was suggested to replace weight (a) in the existing EPI. In addition, the discrete weight (b) in the existing EPI was replaced by a set of continuous regression functions. Due to the introduction of the sensitivity index and the continuous regression functions, the new proposed approach can provide far more accurate outcome than the existing EPI (R2: 0.83 vs. R2: 0.01 for cooling, R2: 0.66 vs. R2: 0.01 for total energy). The new proposed approach proves to be more rational, objective and performance-based than the existing EPI method.
Although many certification works have been carried out since Green Building Certification was enforced in 2002, analyses of the effects and efforts to improve this system are still poor. In the certification system, the energy performance was usually assessed by Energy Performance Index(EPI) of the Energy Saving Design Standards for Buildings. However, due to the inadequacy of analyses on current situation of the Index, there are difficulties to reform it. In this research of green-certified apartments, the author examined correlations between energy performance indexes and aimed to improve the Index by analyzing the scores based on point distribution of respective fields. The average EPI score of green-certified apartments was 74.68, and there was wide variations in min 63.4 and max 90. Furthermore, the average score of energy consumption, which was allotted the most points, was 7.04 out of 12. Therefore, betterments in the Index such as reinforcement in grade ranges and adjustment of the calculation method are necessary.

released by IEA, 2010, indicated that Korea's GDP, of 8 countries surveyed-Korea, Frans, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, the USA, and Australia-was the lowest, but the electric consumption per head was third, following America and Australia. Thus, our government has been striving to reduce energy usage and especially to lessen the energy used in buildings, proposing a variety of road maps such as 'building energy efficiency rating' and 'energy saving design standards of buildings'. Accordingly, this study investigated the effect of the items of machine part among EPI items on the energy saving rate. I measured energy usage by ECO2 program, for simulation program, that is used for the building energy efficiency rating. Result showed that items concerning control of pumps and fans had much more saving rate than the ones concerning efficiency of heater and cooler that had bigger scores assigned among EPI items. Result showed that items concerning control of pumps and fans had much more saving rate than the ones concerning efficiency of heater and cooler that had bigger scores assigned among EPI items. Therefore, I think that grades assigned to items in energy performance index need to be corrected.

As many countries have been raising awareness of environmental issues, greater efforts for eco-friendly construction have been made in both governmental and private sectors. However, assessment circumstances for building energy performance and green building standard of legislation are still based on two dimension and handwork. This takes time, cost and labor, and makes assessment inaccurate and inefficient. Therefore, this study suggests methods to improve eco-friendly construction permission process and to automatize open BIM-based assessment of Energy Performance Index (EPI) among several eco-friendly construction certification standards. First, it analyzes the relations between assessment criteria and IFC data, and provides solutions to problems and limitations. Second, it applies the solutions to assessment program in order to automatize open BIM-based assessment for EPI. The eco-friendly construction permission process with these solutions applied will reduce time, cost, and labor by simplifying and automatizing the tasks. Also, the simplified process of design revision will improve not only productivity and efficiency but also accuracy and reliability.

This study purposed realization and a phase reduction of school building $CO_2$ emissions. Accordingly selected standard school buildings and evaluated life cycle environmental load($CO_2$). This study proposed Green building technology which separated design sector, energy sector, afforestation sector for carbon-neutral city school buildings realization of M-city. As a result, elementary, middle and high schools of M-city built in the year 2013 were required that design sector was Energy Performance Index(EPI) 75 point and energy sector was solar installations more than 25% of the power usage, Solar systems installed more than 10% of total gas consumption and the area of afforesting more than 35% of the ecological area to achieve 30% $CO_2$ reduction compared to the Respectively standard school buildings.

In this paper, there are several analysis on G-SEED, Building Energy Efficiency Rating System, Energy Performance Index, Energy Saving Plan about how they are applied by classification and planning standard. The analysis result found out that G-SEED has low select percentage by having difficulties to managing and additional cost when the each class is selected. And also, Building Energy Efficiency Rating System in school is planed in comparably simple design and similar size and also mostly uses high efficient machines, which was in high lever comparing to the system in facilities in other uses. In the case of EPI, there are differences on acquiring grades by each region. Especially, Gyung-gi region has a low grade on architecture part comparing to other parts, which seems to acquire more grades by strengthen insulation performance. By the result from the three standards, many facilities has only formal plan to pass the required standard without considering specialities of each buildings, which has a tendency to have a pattern to have a minimum criteria. However, School has a symbolic building which has a obligation to be the base of the aim for growing green energy buildings and green education for students. Therefore, planning with understanding of specialities of the facility, having various and rational evaluation standards from the planning of the building is necessary.
To improve environmental problem as globally climate changes, domestic and foreign government have been trying to reduce green gas emitted by all industries. With making the green building certification system that assess the substantiality and energy performance of building, a governments have been using by a way for reducing green gas emitted in building industry. G-SEED(Green Standard for Energy & Environmental Design) developed in Korea have been reinforcing, and a number of projects certifying the G-SEED have been increasing continuously. As a demand of G-SEED certification is rising, a question on the additional cost data as certifying G-SEED is rising. It is because additional cost as getting the certification is important fact for G-SEED level decision and whether getting the certification or not. Therefore, this study analyzed additional construction cost as certifying G-SEED through performance improvement and design change of general office building not to get G-SEED. In conclusion, an additional construction cost ratio of G-SEED projects to the reference building is drawn as certified level; +0.26%, silver level; +2.29%, gold level; +3.89%, and platinum level; +5.48%.

PSALI is referred to the supplementary lighting for the interior lighting under the daily lighting situation, and pursuant to the pertinent regulations in energy savings design standard and others in recent architecture works, the importance thereof has been increasing gradually coupled with the energy performance index (EPI), energy savings plan and the like as well as expansion of submittal and implementation policies. However, this type of PSALI studies indeed have a number of limitations since it has surrounding environmental conditions in direction, season, region, climate, time, opening rate, window area ratio, actual index, reflection rate of finishing materials and others in the architecture work as well as frequent changes in interior lighting environment for variables in daily light volume flowing into the interior, and others. Therefore, this study has analyzed existing advance research cases to produce the actual-sized model and scaled-down model, and installed the artificial lighting of LED light source possible to reproduce with same capability on both models. As a result of comparison and analysis of the artificial lighting with the key light, it has certain level of error rate from the scaled down lighting device in certain rate and actual model butit was noticeably significant within specific scope.
This study is to perform economic analysis of a PVT-GSHP (Photovoltaic Thermal-Ground Source Heat Pump) system compared to the conventional system which consists of a boiler and a chiller. This research has simulated, developed and analyzed four systems for application in a residential and an office building which was based on the hourly EPI (Energy Performance Index, $kWh/m^2yr$). Case 1 includes a boiler and a chiller to meet heating and cooling demands for a house. Case 2 is the same conventional system as Case 1 for a office. Case 3 is simple summation of Case 1 and 2. And Case 4 is utilizing a PVT-GSHP to meet the combined loads of the house and office. The economic evaluation study was based on IEA ECBCS Annex 54 subtasks C economic assessment methods. This study indicated that PVT-GSHP system can save a building's energy up to 53.9%. Also the SPB (Simple Payback) of the PVT-GSHP system with 0%, 50% initial incentive was 14.5, 6.7 year respectively.
