Reliable estimation of energy load inside the greenhouse and the selection of cooling and heating facilities are very important preceding factors to save energy as well as initial and maintenance costs of operating a greenhouse. Recently, building energy simulation (BES) technique to simulate a model similar to the actual conditions through a variety of dynamic simulation methods, and predict and analyze the flow of energy is being actively introduced and developed. As a fundamental research to apply the BES technique which is mainly used for analysis of general buildings, to greenhouse, this research designed four types of naturally-ventilated greenhouses using one of commercial programs, TRNSYS, and then compared and analyzed their energy load properties, by applying meteorological data collected from six regions in Korea. When comparing the greenhouse load of each region depending on latitude and topographical characteristics through simulation, Chuncheon had nearly 9~49 % higher heating load per year than other regions, but its annual cooling load was the reverse to it. Except for Jeju, 1-2W type greenhouses in five regions showed about 17 % higher heating load than a widespan type greenhouse, and 1-2W type greenhouses in Chuncheon, Suwon, Cheongju, Daegu, Cheonju and Jeju had 23 %, 20 %, 17 %, 16 %, 18 % and 20 % higher cooling load respectively than a wide span-type one. Glasshouse and vinyl greenhouse showed 8~11 % and 10~12 % differences respectively in heating load, while 2~10 % and 7~10 % differences in cooling load respectively.
Energy demands for offices in Korea are surveyed and analyzed to generate communicational models for simulations. Daily energy loads of 13 office buildings scattered in the 6 largest cities in the country are surveyed and analyzed based on energy consumption log sheets. Detailed hourly loads that are frequently required when a detailed operation simulation is performed are measured using remote data acquisition processes for 3 offices. The complete load demand models of electricity, cooling, heating and hot water are established by combining the daily and hourly patterns based on the statistical behavior of the hourly patterns.

Commercial buildings account for a significant proportion of the total building energy use in Korea, and cooling energy, in turn, accounts for the largest proportion of total energy consumption in commercial buildings. Under this circumstance, chiller staging is considered to be a reasonable and practical solution for cooling energy saving. In this study, the part-load ratio and the operating characteristics of a vapor compression chiller were analysed within an office building. In addition, energy consumption among different chiller staging schemes was comparatively analysed. As a result, significant proportions of total operating hours, cooling load and energy consumption turned out to be in the part load ratio range from 0% through 50%, and thus energy consumption was significantly affected by the chiller COP at low part-load conditions, indicating that the chiller operation at the part-load is an important factor in commercial buildings. In addition, utilizing a sequential chiller staging scheme can reduce the annual cooling energy usage by more than 10.3% compared to operating a single chiller.
The problem of energy consumption is more serious in university buildings than primary, middle and high school buildings. Because university buildings have generally heating and cooling systems, and various incidental facilities. In university, the library is one of the building that many people use and the most energy is spent. So, investigation on energy saving is very important and urgent. This study aims finally to present the guideline for low-energy design of University library by aiding a designer to select best solution in the side of energy-saving. In this paper, composition of space, utilization schedule and performance of construction materials are grasped, some primary factors that effect to energy saving are analyzed by energy simulation. The result of this study is as follows; First, the subject library has more cooling load than heating load because of cooling load generated during middle season. Second, green roofs is the most effective to heating load saving, but not to cooling energy. Third, outdoor air cooling is the most effective to cooling energy saving among the investigated strategies included in this study.
This paper presents design of controllers for battery energy storage system. The proposed battery energy storage system can be controlled to operate in the power conditioning mode or the inverter mode. The operation of this mode further divided into three cases: (a) in the peak load period, the load power supplied from the utility is minimized as far as possible; (b) in the off-peak load period, the utility supplies power to the load and charges the battery bank with automatic charging control; (c) in the medium load period, to save battery energy the real power flow out of the battery energy storage system is minimized. Besides, in all cases, the proposed battery energy storage system also automatically compensates the harmonics, subharmonics and reactive power factor in the utility side are much improved. Simulation results are presented by the effectiveness of the proposed controllers for battery energy storge system.
A well designed hybrid power system (HPS) can deliver electrical energy in a cost effective way. In this paper, model for HPS consisting of photo voltaic (PV) module and wind mill as renewable energy sources (RES) and solar lead acid battery as storage device connected to unidirectional grid is developed for peak demand reduction. Life time energy cost of the system is evaluated. One year hourly site condition and load pattern are taken into account for analysing the HPS. The optimal HPS is determined for least life time energy cost subject to the constraints like state of charge of the battery bank, dump load, renewable energy (RE) generation etc. Optimal solutions are also found out individually for PV module and wind mill. These three systems are compared to find out the most feasible combination. The results show that the HPS can deliver energy in an acceptable cost with reduced peak consumption from the grid. The proposed optimization algorithm is suitable for determining optimal HPS for desired location and load with least energy cost.

Commercial buildings account for significant portions of the total building energy in Korea, and thus, a variety of research on chiller operation has been carried out. However, most of the studies were carried out on the chiller itself, i.e., the part load ratio characteristics and the corresponding electricity energy consumption patterns were not analyzed in existing studies. In this study, the part load ratio and the operating characteristics of the vapor compression chiller were analyzed within an office building equipped with the conventional variable air volume system. As a result, significant portions of total operating hours, cooling load, and energy consumption turned out to be in the part load ratio range of 0 through 50%. Thus, energy consumption was significantly affected by the chiller COP at low part load conditions, indicating that chiller operation at the part load is an important factor in commercial buildings.
In this paper, inverse building modeling was applied to building perimeter zones which have different window orientation. Two test zones of east-facing and west-facing zones in ERS(Energy Resource Station) building, which is representative of small commercial building, was used to test performance of cooling load calculation and peak cooling load reduction. The dynamic thermal load model for the east and west zone was validated using measured data for the zones and then it was used to investigate the effect of peak cooling load reduction by adjustment of indoor cooling temperature set points during on-peak time period. For the east zone, the peak load can be reduced to about 60% of the peak load for conventional control even without any precooling. For the west zone, PLR is nearly independent of the start of the on-peak period until a start time of 1pm. Furthermore, PLR has a small dependence on the precooling duration. Without any precooling, the peak cooling load can be reduced to about 35% of the peak load associated with conventional control.
This research investigates the bending properties to predict the work-energy to maximum load and impact bending energy from static bending and impact bending test. Specimens were prepared from lumber made of thinning crop-trees. Matched specimens were used for MC 12% and green moisture specimens to measure the effect of moisture content on the absorbed energy from static and impact bending tests. The bending properties such as MOE, MOR, etc. is a good predictor to investigate the work-energy and work-energy per unit volume from static bending and impact bending test. The impact bending energy is increased with increasing moisture content. However, the work to maximum load from static bending test is increasing with increasing the MC only for higher density species.

In this Study, effect of core position, area ratio and orientation of building on energy load is examined using TRNSYS17. This parameters are major parameters of the conceptual design stage. Reference model is square floor plan($1,444m^2$), centered core and 29% core area ratio. As the results, without considering the building orientation, the annual heating load of central building with 1:1 area ratio is lowest ($10.33kWh/m^2yr$) and the annual cooling load of off-central building with 1:1 area ratio is lowest ($59.27kWh/m^2yr$). As area ratio is bigger, cooling load is lower and heating load is higher. But if we consider building orientation, orders of heating load and cooling load are changed for area ratio and orientation.
