  • Uniformity is a key feature of state-of-the-art infrared focal planed array (IRFPA) and infrared imaging system. Unlike traditional infrared telescope facility, a ground-based infrared radiant characteristics measurement system with an IRFPA not only provides a series of high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) infrared image but also ensures the validity of radiant measurement data. Normally, a long integration time tends to produce a high SNR infrared image for infrared radiant characteristics radiometry system. In view of the variability of and uncertainty in the measured target's energy, the operation of switching the integration time and attenuators usually guarantees the guality of the infrared radiation measurement data obtainted during the infrared radiant characteristics radiometry process. Non-uniformity correction (NUC) coefficients in a given integration time are often applied to a specified integration time. If the integration time is switched, the SNR for the infrared imaging will degenerate rapidly. Considering the effect of the SNR for the infrared image and the infrared radiant characteristics radiometry above, we propose a-wide-dynamic-range NUC algorithm. In addition, this essasy derives and establishes the mathematical modal of the algorithm in detail. Then, we conduct verification experiments by using a ground-based MWIR(Mid-wave Infared) radiant characteristics radiometry system with an Ø400 mm aperture. The experimental results obtained using the proposed algorithm and the traditional algorithm for different integration time are compared. The statistical data shows that the average non-uniformity for the proposed algorithm decreased from 0.77% to 0.21% at 2.5 ms and from 1.33% to 0.26% at 5.5 ms. The testing results demonstrate that the usage of suggested algorithm can improve infrared imaging quality and radiation measurement accuracy.

  • Currently, hybridization of energy generator and storage devices is considered to be one of the most important energy-related technologies due to the possibility of replacing batteries or extending the lifetime of a batteries in accordance with increasing battery demand. This review aims to describe current progress on the mechanical energy generator and hybridization of energy generator and energy storage devices for self-powered electronics. First, the research trends related to energy generation devices using piezoelectric and triboelectric effect that convert physical energy into electric energy is introduced. In addition, integration of energy generators and energy storage devices is introduced. In particular, self-charging energy cells provide an innovative approach to the direct conversion of mechanical energy into electrochemical energy to decrease energy conversion loss.

  • Frequency filters with various filtering wavelengths were used in the photoelectric characterization of hydrogenated amorphous silicon thin film transistor (a-Si:H TFT) and the experimental results were described and analyzed in terms of the photon energy spectral characteristics calculated from the integration of the photon energy and the spectral intensity of transmitted backlight through the filters at each wavelength. From the comparison of the photocurrents and the calculated photon energy spectrums for the filtered ranges of wavelength, it was possible to conclude that the photocurrents are closely related to the photon energy spectrums of the backlight.

  • For historical and political reasons, South Korea (hereafter Korea), Japan and China have not achieved much progress in regional energy cooperation for decades. However, the rising importance of Northeast Asia (NEA) in the world energy sphere, especially in the global oil market, is providing an opportunity to create an integrated oil market in the region. This study suggests the Northeast Asian Energy Corridor (NEAEC) Initiative as an effective conduit for raising the possibility of the Northeast Asian oil hub project. The NEAEC Initiative combines the model of Europe's Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA) with Singapore's AsiaClear as a form of financial collaboration. The study suggests that an electronically integrated Over-the-Counter (OTC) market clearing mechanism accompanied by other key financial instruments among Korea, Japan and China can be an effective means for promoting financial collaboration in the region.

  • In this thesis, an anchoring energy in the upper and lower substrates of TFT-LCD cell has been modeled and applied in the numerical calculation of the molecular orientation of the TN-LCD. The molecular orientation of liquid crystals defined as tilt and twist angles was simulated using the Newton-Raphson method and the Gaussian integration method. From the results, the tilt and twist angles for the strong anchoring energy were proven to be coincide with those of the conventional results. on the other hand, for the weak anchoring energy, azimuth angles of the molecules were changed abruptly from $0^{\circ}\;to\;90^{\circ}$ near the middle area of the cell due to the balance of the anchoring energy and the elastic energy of the liquid crystals.

  • The use of nuclear reactors is a large studied possible solution for thermochemical water splitting cycles. Nevertheless, there are several problems that have to be solved. One of them is to increase the efficiency of the cycles. Hence, in this paper, a thermal energy optimization of a Sulfur-Iodine nuclear hydrogen production cycle was performed by means a heuristic method with the aim of minimizing the energy targets of the heat exchanger network at different minimum temperature differences. With this method, four different heat exchanger networks are proposed. A reduction of the energy requirements for cooling ranges between 58.9-59.8% and 52.6-53.3% heating, compared to the reference design with no heat exchanger network. With this reduction, the thermal efficiency of the cycle increased in about 10% in average compared to the reference efficiency. This improves the use of thermal energy of the cycle.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate Nest Labs (Nest)'s business strategy. The activities based on strategic choices for monetizing connected product are investigated. Nest's capacity and functionality is to offer a seamless integration of devices, platforms, and services and the "Works with Nest" offers an ecosystem fulfilling the needs of different partners. For monetizing customer data, Nest provides a seamless customer experience supported by product incentives. Nest introduces open APIs to connect its connected products to the wider Internet of things (IoT) and open to "If This, Then That." The Nest app controls them from one single place. Nest partners with 32 energy providers as of 2017 and they provide energy from renewable and non-renewable energy sources. Nest also creates a sales channels in direct and indirect route and expands is business model to other industries such as home-rental service, 'AirBnB' to help consumers become more energy-efficient at home.

  • As environmental pollution has become worse green technologies to replace or reduce consumption of fossil fuel get spotlight from government, industry and academia globally. It is reported that 40% of carbon dioxide emission is caused by electricity power generation. And 37% of end user electricity power is used by residential costumer in US. Smart Grid is considered as one of promising technology to alleviate severe environmental problem. In residential environment, Home Energy Management System (HEMS) can play a key role for green smart home. The HEMS can give several benefits like aslowering electric utility bill, improvement of efficiency of electric power consumption and integration of generator using renewable energy resources. However just limited functions of HEMS can be used for residential customer in real life because of lack of smart function in home appliances and optimal managing software for HEMS. This study provides comprehensive analysis for Home Energy Management System for residential customer. Simple HEMS system with real products on the market are explained and limitation of current HEMS are also discussed.

  • This paper explains the development process of methane decomposition to hydrogen and carbon black using solar thermal energy. It also demonstrates the advantages and disadvantages of five different reactors for each development stage, including the reactor's experimental results. Starting with the initial direct heating type reactor, the indirect heating type reactor was developed through five modifications. The 40-kWth solar furnace installed at the Korea Institute of Energy Research was used for the experiment. In the experiment using the developed indirect heating reactor, an 89.0% methane to hydrogen conversion rate was achieved at a methane flow rate of 40 L/min, obtained at about twice the flow rate compared to previous advanced studies.
