When high energy photon beam is incident upon an air cavity interface the effect of ionization build-up observed. This phenomenon is resulting from the surface layers of the lesions are significant deficiency of electrons reaching the layers because of the replacement of solid scattering material by the air cavity, that is lack of electronic equilibrium. Measurement have been made in an acrylic phantom with a parallel plate chamber and high energy Photon beams, CO-60, 4MV, 6MV and 10MV X-rays have been investigated. The result of our study show that a significant effect was measured and was determined to be very dependent on field size, air cavity dimension and photon energy. The reductions were much larger for 10MV beam, underdosage at the interface was 12, 12.2, 16.9 and 20.6% for the CO-60, 4 MV, 6MV and 10MV, respectively. It was found that this non-equilibrium effect at the interface is more severe for the higher energy beams than that of lower energy beams and the larger cavity dimensions it is, the larger beam reductions we have. This problem is of clinical concern when lesions such as carcinoma beyond air cavities are irradiated, such as larynx, glottic and the patients with maxillectomy and ethmoidectomy and so forth.
An energy function is derived on the basis of the EMM(Equivalent Mechanical Model) to take account of the effects of tap changer, and then the VC(Voltage Collapse) criteria is proposed to predict the voltage collapse in Power systems. The VC criterion can be evaluated by using the energy margin given by the energy gap between UEP(Unstable Equilibrium Point) and SEP(Stable Equilibrium Point) of the energy function adopted, in which it is noted that the energy contour should be considered due to energy discontinuity associated with tap changing. This paper shows that the proposed VC criterion improves the accuracy of voltage stability analysis with application to a two-bus sample system.
This paper, focusing on the renewable portfolio standard (RPS), evaluates alternative renewable energy policies. We propose a tractable equilibrium model which provides a structural representation of Korea's electricity market, including its energy settlement system and renewable energy certificate (REC) transactions. Arbitrage conditions are used to define the core value of REC prices to identify relevant competitive equilibrium conditions. The model considers R&D investments and learning effects that may affect the development of renewable energy technologies. The model is parameterized to represent the baseline scenario under the currently scheduled RPS reinforcement for a 20% share of renewable generation, and then simulated for alternative scenarios. The result shows that the reinforcement of the RPS leads to higher welfare compared to weakening it as well as repealing it, though there remains room to enhance welfare. It turns out that subsidies are welfare-inferior to the RPS due to financial burdens and that reducing nuclear power generation from the baseline yields lower welfare by worsening environmental externalities.
The neutron induced nuclear cross-section data for Pd-105, Ag-109, Xe-131, and Cs-133 were calculated and evaluated from an unresolved energy to 20 MeV. The energy dependent optical model potential parameters were extracted based on recent experimental data and applied up to 20 MeV. A spherical optical model and a statistical model for the equilibrium energy, and a multistep direct and a multistep compound model for the pre-equilibrium energy were used in the calculation. The direct capture model was recently introduced for fast neutron capture. The theoretically calculated cross-sections were compared with the experimental data and the evaluated files. The total and capture cross-sections calculated using the model were in good agreement with the reference experimental data. The evaluated cross-section results were compiled in ENDF-6 format and merged with the resonance component, already adopted in the ENDF/B-VI release 8. New data library files covering from thermal to 20 MeV were created. They are at the preliminary stage of an ENDF/B- VII release.

It is difficult to analytically derive a volumetric displacement formula for a gerotor hydraulic motor due to the complexity of the geometric shape of its gear lobes. This work proposes an analytical method for the volumetric displacement, a relatively easy method based upon two physical concepts: conservation between hydraulic energy and mechanical shaft energy, and torque equilibrium for the rotor's motion. The first research using these concepts was conducted on inner and outer rotors rotating with respect to each rotor axis. This work represents the second report conducted on an inner rotor revolving as a planetary motion on the stationary outer rotor. The formula equations regarding the volumetric displacement and flow rate are derived, and the proposed formula about the volumetric displacement is proven to be the same as another analytical displacement formula: the so-called vane length method. From the formula, volumetric displacement is calculated for an example geometry of the gear lobes. The resultant displacement is confirmed to be the same as the value calculated from the chamber volume method. The proposed analytical formula can be utilized in the analysis and design of gerotor hydraulic motors. Because it is based on torque equilibrium, this formula can provide a better understanding of torque performance, such as torque ripple, in designing a gerotor type motor.
Arches are constrained with rotational resistance at both edges. An energy method is used to derive variational formulation which is used to prove the existence of equilibrium states of elastic circular arches for the torsional spring constants ${\rho}-\;{\geq}\;0,\;{\rho}+\;{\geq}\;0,\;and\;{\rho}-\;+\;{\rho}+\;>\;0$. The boundary conditions are searched using the existence of minimum potential energy.
