  • Global climate change brings environmental quality sensitivity, especially in developed countries. Developed countries use non-renewable energy sources intensively both in their own countries and in other countries, they make productions that cause an enormous rate of increase in CO2 emissions and unsustainable environmental costs. This has increased the interest in environmentally friendly alternative energy sources. The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of nuclear energy consumption and technological innovation on environmental quality in G7 countries using annual data over the period 1970-2015. The Panel Threshold Regression Model was used for the analysis. Empirical findings have indicated that the relationship between nuclear energy consumption and carbon emissions differs according to innovation for nuclear power plants. It was also concluded that nuclear energy consumption reduces carbon emissions more after a certain level of innovation. This result shows that the increase in innovative technologies for nuclear power plants not only increases energy efficiency but also contributes positively to environmental quality.

  • Electric motor systems account for more than half of all electric systems and the amount of energy consumption of those is almost 70 percent of total energy consumption of electric motor systems in industry. As electric motor systems are very responsible for global electricity savings and environment protection. Many international organizations are supporting standards and policy development processes to improve the efficiency of electric motor systems. Many standards are being developed at technical committee of IEC that has been required in order to support the implementation of efficiency regulations. High efficiency standards and levels for electric motor systems are slowly being introduced and compulsory in many countries. Therefore understanding the international efficiency evaluation standards and the regulation of electric motor systems of each country is important. This paper presents the current status and trends of international evaluation standards and regulations about the efficiency of electric motor systems.

  • For the robust design of Motor Driven Power Steering (MDPS) systems, it is important to consider energy efficiency from every aspect such as system configuration and current flow, etc. If design optimization is not considered, it has many problems on a vehicle. For example, when evaluating steering test, particularly the Catch-up test which turning the steering wheel left or right quickly, steering effort should be increased rapidly. Also a vehicle might have poor fuel efficiency. In this study, it is calculated energy consumption for each component of the steering system and analyzed factors of energy consumption. As a result, this paper redefines a method to estimate steering input torque using characteristics of vehicle electric components and then conducts an analysis of contribution for the Catch-up.

  • A Photovoltaic/Thermal(PVT) solar system consists of PV module and thermal absorber plate which convert the absorbed solar radiation into electricity and heat. Meaningful researches and development (R&D) on the PVT technologies have been performed since the 1970s. This paper presents a review of the previous works covering the various types of PVT and their performance analysis in terms of electrical and thermal efficiency. This review compares electrical and thermal efficiency of the different types of PVT collectors and analyzes the parameters affecting PVT performance. Based on the literature review, box channel type PVT with unglazed, or flat plate PVT with glazed have the highest efficiency among them. From the literature review, R&D should be carried out aiming at improving their overall electrical and thermal efficiency, cutting down the cost, and making them more competitive in the energy consumption market.

  • Governments are increasing energy efficiency in buildings through various policies to reduce building energy consumption. In 2002, the European Union adopted a building energy performance guideline to set minimum efficiency standards for residential and commercial buildings. Starting in 2020, all EU member states should ensure that all buildings are Near-Zero Energy Buildings (NZEB). In Korea, the government issued a zero-energy certification system. Since 2020, public buildings are required to cover energy consumption with the energy produced in buildings. As the demand for building energy simulation has increased to increase the energy efficiency of these buildings, the International Standard Organization (ISO) has created a standard for calculating building energy requirements called ISO 13790. This standard was revised to ISO 52016 in 2017. In this research, ISO 13790, which calculates the energy needs of existing buildings, and ISO 52016, which replaces them, are compared and analyzed, and applied to the calculation of heating energy needs of buildings. For models without thermal zoning(Case A), the difference in annual heating energy needs calculated from each criterion is $1.08kWh/m^2$, which is about 2% higher in ISO 52016. In the case of the thermal zoning model(Case B), the difference in annual heating energy needs calculated by each standard was $0.97kWh/m^2$, which was about 2% higher than ISO 52016. The heating energy needs model without thermal zoning has a higher energy needs than the heating energy needs model with thermal zoning. It is about 16% energy at $8.58kWh/m^2$ for ISO 13790 and $8.69kWh/m^2$ for ISO 52016.

  • Recently, Goverment's Energy-saving policy in Korea as 'Green Growth' is very remarkable effort. By intensive poliicies, the private is encouraged to participate in policy. Especially, it is very important in the field of architecture and we have to work for construction of law system. However, these efforts of the government buildings for energy efficiency in use stage is as mandatory system that may occur in the construction phase and the enviromental impact of greenhouse gas reductions is not affected. For this reason, Assess the amount of the energy consumption and CO2 emissioont of Government Buildings in 2010 ordered by PPS(Public Procurement Service) in the construction phase and suggest to recognize the need for legal restrictions.

  • This study has been conducted to describe the establishment of national measures to reduce world energy consumption and $CO_2$ Emission. Particularly, Reductions in energy consumption from building operation is the most important part to achieve these national objectives. Element to evaluate the quantitative effects of these systems by having rationalized regulation and operation is essential, when planning for building energy reduction design. USGBC(US Green Building Council) have operated sustainable assessment method called LEED, which introduces baseline performance and evaluation direction for building simulation techniques. This research analyzed Quantitative assessments of the building energy consumption and analyzed baseline figures to provide comparative analysis with standard building settings.

Therefore, case study according to increase of energy consumption, investigate the actual conditions of the operation of electric cars and lightings were analyzed. From the results therefore, it is found that the energy consumption of electric car is much more winter than summer, because heating for protect of the air pipe frozen. But the energy consumption of electric equipment of station office is much more summer than winer, the reason for air-conditioner. In future, according to outdoor air temperature and ridership, ,wish to study about system that can operate cold, block heater automatically.

  • In wireless sensor networks, coverage problem is a fundamental issue that has attracted considerable attention in recent years. Most node scheduling patterns utilize the adjustable range of sensor to minimize the sensing energy consumption. However, a large source of consumption of communication energy of sensor is not strictly taken into account. In this paper, we introduce an energy-efficient pattern that is used to minimize the communication energy consumption of a sensor network. Calculations and extensive simulation are conducted to evaluate the efficiency of the new pattern comparing to existing ones.

  • Energy consumption in the instruction cacheaccounts for a significant portion of the total processor energy consumption. Therefore, reducing energy consumption in the instruction cache is important in designing embedded processors. This paper proposes a method for reducing dynamic energy consumption in the instruction cache by partitioning it to smaller (less energy-consuming) sub-caches. When a request comes into the proposed cache, only one sub-cache is accessed by utilizing the locality of applications. By contrast, the other sub-caches are not accessed, leading todynamic energy reduction. In addition, the proposed cache reduces dynamic energy consumption by eliminating the energy consumed in tag matching. We evaluated the energy efficiency by running cycle accurate simulator, SimpleScalar. with power parameters obtained from CACTI. Simulation results show that the proposed cache reduces dynamic energy consumption by $37%{\sim}60%$ compared to the traditional direct-mapped instruction cache.
