  • Analysis for various driven nozzle position changes. The analysis was done for different Reynolds number in entrance region of jet-pump and for several diameter ratios of driven nozzle. (1) The largest absorption energy was found at the point s=1 in condition of diameter ratio 1:3.21 and point s=0.5 in condition of diameter ratio 1:2.25. (2) The absorption energy was not related to the change of entrance velocity and the driven nozzle position having the largest absorption energy was function for cross section ratio. (3) As the position of driven nozzle moves to the downstream, the absorption energy gets weaker. Because the energy from swirl was lost at the cross section gets smaller. (4) As the position of driven nozzle moves to the downstream, the injection energy leans to the upper direction wall and as the Reynolds number increase, the lean phenomenon is more distinct. (5) The flow quantity of driven nozzle, the diameter ratio 1:3.21, was 32% higher than that of 1 : 2.25 and as the inlet velocity gets faster the efficiency decreased. And as the cross section of the driven nozzle increases.

  • Solar energy has been experiencing renewed interest because of the recent economical crisis in Korea. Absorption cooling is one of the promising solar energy utilization technologies. In this study the dynamic performance of a solar driven absorption cooling machine(SDACM) was numerically investigated. The simulated machine is a commercially available water/LiBr single effect absorption chillers driven by hot water from solar collectors. The present study has been directed to investigate the dynamic behavior of a solar cooling system including an absorption chiller, solar collector, a hot water storage tank, fan coil units, and the air-conditioned space. The operation of the system was simulated for 9 hours in varying operation conditions. The variation of temperature and concentration in the system components, and that of heat transfer rates in the system were obtained. It was also found that the room temperature was maintained near the desired value by controlling the mass flow rate of hot water.

  • This study offers a Monte Carlo alternative for computing mass energy absorption coefficients of any material through calculation of photon energy deposited per mass of the sample and the energy flux obtained inside a sample volume. This approach is applied in this study to evaluate mass energy absorption coefficients of some amino acids found in human body at twenty-eight different photon energies between 10 keV and 20 MeV. The simulations involved a pencil beam source modeled to emit a parallel beam of mono-energetic photons toward a 1 mean free path thick sample of rectangular parallelepiped geometry. All the components in the problem geometry were surrounded by a 100 cm vacuum sphere to avoid any interactions in materials other than the absorber itself. The results computed using the Monte Carlo radiation transport packages MCNP6.2 and GAMOS5.1 were checked against the theoretical values available from the tables of XMUDAT database. These comparisons indicate very good agreement and support the conclusion that Monte Carlo technique utilized in this fashion may be used as a computational tool for determining the mass energy absorption coefficients of any material whose data are not available in the literature.

  • Absorption chiller/heater can utilize the unused energy of the daily life waste heat, the industry waste heat. the solar energy and the earth energy. These can contribute to energy savings. But the absorption chiller/heater has a demerit that the size of absorption chiller/heater is larger than that of the vapor compression type based on same capacity. In this study. the experimental apparatus of an absorber is manufactured as a plate. which is newly applied in an absorber. The experimental apparatus is composed of a plate type absorber. which can increase the heat exchange area per unit volume and thus facilitating to deeply investigate more detail features instead of that done by the existing type. i.e.. horizontal tube bundle type. The characteristics of heat transfer and refrigeration capacity are studied experimentally. The absorption enhancement by using surfactant is closely examined through the experiment and comparative figures are presented in quantitative and qualitative analysis.

  • Fe-doped $TiO_2$ nanopowders were prepared by mechanical alloying (MA) varying Fe contents up to 8.0 wt.%. The UV-vis absorption showed that the UV absorption for the Fe-doped powder shifted to a longer wavelength (red shift). The absorption threshold depends on the concentration of nano-size Fe dopant. As the Fe concentration increased up to 4 wt.%, the UV-vis absorption and the magnetization were increased. The benefical effect of Fe doping for photocatalysis and ferromagnetism had the critical dopant concentration of 4 wt.%. Based on the UV absorption and magnetization, the dopant level is localized to the valence band of $TiO_2$.

  • A numerical analysis is made to investigate the wave absorption efficiency of a OWC-type wave power generator. Energy absorption by an OWC(Oscillating Water Column) air-chamber is computed in regular waves, taking account of the oscillating surface-pressure, due to pressure drop, across the duct of the air chamber. The problem is formulated in the scope of potential theory and solved by the Localized Finite Element Method(LFEM), based on the classical variational principle. The efficiency of energy absorption is investigated by. changing wave conditions, sea-bottom slope and pressure drop coefficient.

  • The separation and capture process of carbon dioxide from power plants is garnering interest as a method to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In this study, aqueous alkanolamine solutions were studied as absorbents for $CO_2$ capture. The solubility of $CO_2$ in aqueous alkanolamine solutions was investigated with a continuous stirred reactor at 313, 333 and 353 K. Also, the heat of absorption ($-{\Delta}H_{abs}$) between the absorbent and $CO_2$ molecules was measured with a differential reaction calorimeter (DRC) at 298 K. The solubility and heat of absorption were determined at slightly higher than atmospheric pressure. The enthalpies of $CO_2$ absorption in monoethanolamine (MEA), diethanolamine (DEA), triethanolamine (TEA), and 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol (AMP) were 88.91, 70.44, 44.72, and 63.95, respectively. This investigation showed that the heat of absorption is directly related to the quantity of heat for absorbent regeneration, and is dependent on amine type and $CO_2$ loading.

  • Shock absorption performances of various rubbers were investigated by using drop impact test. Several types of rubber such as NR, NBR, EPDM, SR and PUR with three respective levels of shore hardness were used for the test. As in the cases, the absorbed impact energies in rubbers were measured under seven different loads against impact energy between 5-80J. The impact absorption efficiencies of the rubbers then were evaluated by means of both single impact energy condition and summation of all impact energy applied condition. As shown in the results, PUR and EPDM have better shock absorption performances than other rubbers. Further analysis was extended to determine a shear modulus of SR through the finite element implementation with Blatz-Ko model. As can be seen, relatively higher level of absorption energy results in a decreasing shear modulus.

  • The sound absorption materials are generally classified by three types, such as porous, resonator, panel. All of these types are based on theory of energy transform from sound energy to thermal energy. At first, the sound energy transform from the porous type uses to friction and viscose resistance. Secondly, resonator type uses to resonance frequency, absorption coefficient reach the highest.(omitted)

  • An experimental investigation on the energy absorption of two staged combined structures is presented, which deals with the plastic collapse test as a series of research on soft bow structure involved in a ship collision. The principle of arithmetic superposition of energy absorption is derived upon experimental analysis and based upon the characteristics of the energy absorptions of component structures. This relationship is related to the further approach toward the design of soft bow.
