  • This paper is about research and development of Korea Aerospace University's Solar-Powered UAV System that named of KAU-SPUAV, and describes the design process of the 4.2 m solar UAV that succeeded in a long flight of 32 hours and 19 minutes at June 2020. In order to improve the long-term flight performance of the KAU-SPUAV, For reduce drag, a circular cross-section of the fuselage was designed, and manufactured light and sturdy fuselage by applying a monocoque structure using a glass fiber composite material. In addition, a solar module optimized for the wing shape of a 4.2 m solar drone was constructed and arranged, and a propulsion system applied with the 23[in] × 23[in] propeller was constructed to improve charging and flight efficiency. The developed KAU-SPUAV consumes an average of 55W when cruising and can receive up to 165W of energy during the day, and its Long-term Endurance was verified through flight tests.

  • This paper presents the experimental investigation of a biplane micro air vehicle. The effects of geometric parameters, gap, stagger, and decalage angle are investigated at low Reynolds number (~150,000) in a low-speed wind tunnel. A rigid flat plate with an aspect ratio of one and square planform shape is used to evaluate all three geometric parameters. The side dimension of the single flat plate is 0.15 m. The goal is to find an optimal biplane configuration that should exceed monoplane performance by generating high lift and flying as slow as possible, in order to capture high-quality visual recordings. This configuration will directly help to fly at a lower velocity and to make tighter turns that are advantageous in restricted environments. The results show that the aerodynamic performance of the biplane MAV is significantly enhanced through the combination of gap and stagger effects. A performance comparison demonstrates the superiority of the optimal biplane configuration compared to a monoplane in cruise and glide phases. Moreover, no significant compromise is found for the range, endurance, and climb performance.

  • It is important to improve the performance of storage in the home cloud environment within the virtualized IoT gateway since the performance of applications deeply depends on storage. Though SSD caching is applied in order to improve the storage, it is only used for read-cache due to the limitations of SSD such as poor write performance and small write endurance. However, it is important to improve performance of the write operation in the home cloud server, in order to improve the end-user experience. This paper propose a novel SSD caching which considers write-data as well as read-data. We validate the enhancement in the performance of random-write by transforming it to the sequential patterns.

  • Today, tire performance becomes better as vehicle performance increases. Driviability, endurance, comfortability, noise, and antiwear performance is influenced by tire contour. Tire design method is developed by high-tech engineering technology. Among theses studies, tire performance improvement through tire contour optimization is performed by many vehicle investigator. Therefore, in the present study, an optimum contour design system satisfying the tire performance requirements is constructed by regression analysis and genetic algorithm by using design of experiments.

  • Copper-chromium alloys have been used as contact materials of vacuum interrupters in circuit breakers, but new materials with highly stable performance are required to break the high voltage and high current barrier due to the recent increase in breaking capacity. In this paper, a new contact material was fabricated from a ternary alloy instead of existing Cu-Cr alloys. Its breaking performance and endurance were verified from a synthetic test and compared with that of various contact materials. The test results verified that the breaking performance of the new contact material was excellent.

  • Due to the potential application to ultra-high strength fibers and excellent properties such as high mechanical properties, excellent thermal endurance and chemical stability, thermotropic liquid crystal polymers (TLCPS) are attractive in recent years [1, 2]. Furthermore, the melt blends of TLCPS and conventional thermoplastics have been extensively investigated because of their easy processing and high performance [3-6]. Since high performance polymers generally has high melt viscosity, introduction of the relatively low viscosity components may be one of the more effective techniques to improve processability through the decrement of melt viscosity in melt processing.   • Air brake system of KTX effectively distributes air to brake panel in each bogie. System consists of carrying bogie brake panel, motor bogie brake panel, driver's valve panel, pneumatic auxiliary panel and other accessories. For the prove endurance, confirm test number. Distributor and control moderable magnet valve are 500,000 times and respectively, carrying bogie MR/BP cut-out cock are 12,000 times. Tests satisfy all of condition until now. Developments conduct a performance test to brake tester of domestic manufacturer and operating authority.

  • Elastic-plastic structural analysis for regenerative cooling chamber of gas generator was performed. Uniaxial tension test was conducted for STS316L at room and high temperature conditions to get the material data necessary for the structural analysis of the chamber which was operated under thermal load and high internal pressure. Physical properties including thermal conductivity, specific heat and thermal expansion were also measured. The structural analysis for four different types of regenerative cooling chamber of gas generator revealed that increased cooling performance decreased the thermal load and strain of the cooling channel structure. The results propose that in order for the regenerative cooling gas generator chamber to have high structural stability with endurance to high mechanical and thermal loads, it is important for the chamber to be designed to have high cooling performance.

  • Proper cooling of PEM fuel cell stack is essential for the high-performance operation of fuel cell system. Insufficient cooling of the stack can cause significant damage to components due to overheating and also can decrease cell performance by dehydration of the polymer electrolyte. In the present study, we performed a computational analysis to assess the condition of the cooling system to secure the proper temperature in fuel cell stack system for high altitude long endurance (HALE) unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).
