  • In this paper, we find the matrix representation of multi-degree reduction by $L_{\infty}$ of $B{\acute{e}}zier$ curves with constraints of endpoints continuity. Using the basis transformation between Chebyshev polynomials and Bernstein polynomials we can derive the matrix representation of multi-degree reduction of $B{\acute{e}}zier$ with respect to $L_{\infty}$ norm.

  • In this paper, we propose a robust endpoint detection algorithm for speaker verification. Proposed algorithm uses energy and cepstral distance parameters, and it replaces the detected endpoints with endpoints of voiced speech, when the estimated signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is low. Experimental results show that proposed algorithm is superior to energy-based endpoint detection algorithm.

  • In this paper we present a full circle approximation method using parametric polynomial curves with algebraic coefficients which are curvature continuous at both endpoints. Our method yields the n-th degree parametric polynomial curves which have a total number of 2n contacts with the full circle at both endpoints and the midpoint. The parametric polynomial approximants have algebraic coefficients involving rational numbers and radicals for degree higher than four. We obtain the exact Hausdorff distances between the circle and the approximation curves.

  • Carcass characteristics data of Hanwoo (N = 1,084) were collected from two stations of the National Livestock Institute of Animal Science (NIAS), Korea and records from thirteen individual cow-calf operators were analyzed to estimate variance and covariance components and the effect of different slaughter endpoints. Carcass traits analyzed were cold carcass weight (CWT, kg), REA (rib eye area, cm2), back fat thickness (mm) and marbling score (1-7). Four different models were examined. All models included sex and contemporary group as fixed effects and the animal's direct genetic potential and environment as random effects. The first model fitted a linear covariate of age at slaughter. The second model fitted both linear and quadratic covariates of age at slaughter. The third model fitted a linear covariate of body weight at slaughter. The fourth model fitted both linear covariates of age at slaughter and body weight at slaughter. Variance components were estimated using the REML procedure with Gibb's sampler. Heritability estimate of CWT was in the range of 0.08-0.11 depending on the model applied. Heritability estimates of BF, REA and MS were in the ranges of 0.23-0.28, 0.19-0.26, and 0.44-0.45, respectively. Genetic correlations between CWT and BF, between CWT and REA, and between CWT and MS were in the ranges of -0.33 - -0.14, 0.73-0.84, and -0.01- 0.11, respectively. Genetic correlations between REA and BF, between MS and BF and between REA and MS were in the ranges of -0.82 ~ -0.72, 0.04~0.28 and -0.08 ~ -0.02, respectively. Variance and covariance components estimated varied by model with different slaughter endpoints. Body weight endpoint was more effective for direct selection in favor of yield traits and body weight endpoints affected more of the correlated response to selection for the traits of yield and quality of edible portion of beef.

  • The performance of a bimodal system is affected by the accuracy of the endpoint detection from the input signal as well as the performance of the speech recognition or lipreading system. In this paper, we propose the endpoint detection method which detects the endpoints from the audio and video signal respectively and utilizes the signal to-noise ratio (SNR) estimated from the input audio signal to select the reliable endpoints to the acoustic noise. In other words, the endpoints are detected from the audio signal under the high SNR and from the video signal under the low SNR. Experimental results show that the bimodal system using the proposed endpoint detector achieves satisfactory recognition rates, especially when the acoustic environment is quite noisy.

  • Following intracoronary stenting, antiplatelet therapy lead to greater protection from thrombotic complication. A few data are available about the effect of clopidogrel versus cilostazol, an antiplatelet commonly used after intracoronary stenting. To evaluate the efficacy and safety of clopidogrel plus aspirin compared with those of cilostazol plus aspirin in coronary stenting and to evaluate the efficacy of clopidogrel loading dose prior to coronary stealing in clopidogrel group. Data were retrospectively collected from medical charts of patients who had undergone coronary stenting and received either clopidogrel with or without loading 300 mg followed by 75 mg/d (n=58), or 200 mg/d cilostazol(n=72) for 1 year, between January 2000 and May 2002. All patients in both groups received aspirin 200 mg/d throughout the study. The primary endpoints at 7, 30, 180 and 365 days after stealing were the composite of death, Myocardial Infarction, stroke, angina, and revascularization in the intent to treat population and restenosis at follow up angiography. The secondary endpoints were the incidence of bleeding complications at 7, 30, and 365 days, and durg adverse effects at 365 days after stenting. At 180 and 365 days after stenting, the combined primary endpoints were significantly reduced in clopidogrel plus aspirin group (relative risk 0.39; 95% CI 0.17 to 0.92; p=0.021, RR 0.43; 95% CI 0.22 to 0.84; p=0.0085, respectively). However, the combined primary endpoints were not significantly different between the two groups at 7 and 30 days (p:1.00, p=0.79, respectively). Angiographic restenosis rate was 14.3% in clopidogrel plus aspirin uoup and 32.1% in cilostazol plus aspirin group (p=0.19). 300mg of clopidogrel loading dose did not significantly reduce the combined primary endpoints at 30 days after stenting (RR 0.14; 95% CI 0.01 to 2.65; p=0.23). The rate of bleeding complications and drug adverse effects were not different between the two groups. In patients undergoing intracoronary stenting, clopidogrel plus aspirin therapy is more beneficial than cilostazol plus aspirin in reducing major adverse cardiac events with similar rate of bleeding complication. A loading dose of clopidogrel did not lead to a statistically significant reduction in major adverse cardiac events.

  • The predictive screening of various molecular descriptors for predicting cyclooxygenase inhibitor, lipooxygenase inhibitor, leucotriene synthesis inhibitor, leucotriene antagonist activities of Stilbene moieties have been investigated for the application of quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSAR). The biological activities for 36 compounds were computed by the PASS program and molecular descriptors are cited from literatures or calculated, to investigate feasibility of screening relevant descriptors and of their applications among biological endpoints. Fairly good correlations varying from 0.7828 to 0.9032 were obtained using 12 descriptors with 29 Stilbene derivatives and 5 diazo-compounds. Our studies reveal that LogKow, electron density(X), electron density (Y),4th-order valence connectivity and water solubility can be usefully employed to predict biological activities of stilbene derivatives with simple regression models.
