The main objective of this paper is analyzing the effects of task uncertainty on EUC characteristics and end user satisfaction. Task uncertainty were identified as an important determinant of EUC characteristics. And the moderating effect of task uncertainty on the relationship between EUC characteristics and end user satisfaction was suggested. A field study was undertaken to test the hypothesized relationships among task uncertainty, EUC characteristics, and end user satisfaction Data were collected from 138 end-user of 19 Korean business organizations. The empirical results indicated that task uncertainty was significantly related to EUC characteristics and that task uncertainty had significant effect on the relationship between EUC characteristics and end user satisfaction. Implications and future research directions are drawn for the management of EUC and for further research on EUC.
An induction motor operated with high voltage source generally generates high current in starting mode and has a long transient time after being started. This large and sustaining starting current causes the end windings of the stator to have excessive electromagnetic force. This force is the source of vibration and has a negative and serious influence on the insulation of end windings. Therefore, designing the end winding part with an appropriate support system is needed. To design the support ring enclosing the end windings, we analyze the distribution of electromagnetic force on the end windings by applying the Biot-Savart's law and the 3D finite element method (FEM), and comparing two simulation methods. Finally, we verify the safety of the support structure of the end winding part using stress analysis, which is analyzed with the electromagnetic forces from the 3D FEM simulation.
The end-milling force behaviour is very complex and it is related to a de-noising phenomenon, so it is very difficult to detect and diagnose this static cutting force phenomenon. This paper presents a new method of filtering of end-milling force in end-milling operation using filter bank technique, based on the wavelet transform. In this paper by comparing the history of end-milling force using wavelet filtering the fundamental end-milling property of the wavelet transform is well reviewed and analyzed. This result of wavelet transform using filter bank shows the possible static prediction of end-milling force with severe dynamic properties such as chatter in end-milling operation.
A company needs low cost and high efficient S/W tools to improve the white color productivity in daily operation, These needs may be satisfied by end-user knowledge management system to be suggested in this paper. We suggest that the end-user knowledge management is not made by specialized developer but directly made by end-users of some related managers using company-wide DB and department DB. We expect that this end-user knowledge management system will increase the efficiency of end-user daily operation and minimize the total life cycle cost of end-user computing system in industry. The suggested end-user knowledge management system has been tested in some companies through the training course.
Diverse strengthening methods for reinforced concrete are applied to real structures with a variety of materials. On the other hand, only external prestressing is used for strengthening damaged prestressed concrete girders. But the end brackets for external prestressing are hard to design and to manufacture, the magnitude of prestressing is limited when applied to real structures. The current end brackets are not clearly understood in load transmitting mechanisms and they may damage the original girder by drilling during construction. And also the designed welding area of the current bracket is insufficient to support the high load. The problems of current end bracket are solved in this study. And a new and improved end bracket is proposed and tested. The tested end bracket is similar to the end bearing bracket, but many supportting plates are addded to increase its welding length of the weakest point of the bracket. The increased welding length finally increases its load carrying capacity significantly.

The end plates of fuel cell assemblies are used to fasten the inner stacks, reduce the contact pressure, and provide a seal between Membrane-Electrode Assemblies (MEAs). They therefore require sufficient mechanical strength to withstand the tightening pressure, light weight to obtain high energy densities, and stable chemical/electrochemical properties, as well as provide electrical insulation. The design criteria for end plates can be divided into three parts: the material, connecting method, and shape. In the past, end plates were made from metals such as aluminum, titanium, and stainless steel alloys, but due to corrosion problems, thermal losses, and their excessive weight, alternative materials such as plastics have been considered. Composite materials consisting of combinations of two or more materials have also been proposed for end plates to enhance their mechanical strength. Tie-rods have been traditionally used to connect end plates, but since the number of connecting parts has increased, resulting in assembly difficulties, new types of connectors have been contemplated. Ideas such as adding reinforcement or flat plates, or using bands or boxes to replace tie-rods have been proposed. Typical end plates are rectangular or cylindrical solid plates. To minimize the weight and provide a uniform pressure distribution, new concepts such as ribbed-, bomb-, or bow-shaped plates have been considered. Even though end plates were not an issue in fuel cell system designs in the past, they now provide a great challenge for designers. Changes in the materials, connecting methods, and shapes of an end plate allow us to achieve lighter, stronger end plates, resulting in more efficient fuel cell systems.
The present study addresses the open end correction associated with the reflection and discharge phenomena of a weak shock wave from an open end of a duct. The open end correction of the weak shock wave is investigated experimentally and by numerical computation. An experiment is made using a simple shock tube with an open end, and computation is performed to simulate the experimental flow field using the unsteady, axisymmetric, compressible, flow governing equations. The results obtained show that an open end correction should be involved for shock wave discharge and reflection problems generated from the exit of the duct with an open end baffle plate. With a baffle plate less than three times the duct diameter, it is found that the open end correction is a function of both the diameter of the baffle plate and normal shock wave magnitude. However, for a baffle plate larger than three times the duct diameter, it is independent of the baffle plate diameter. The present computations predict the results of shock tube experiment with good accuracy. A new empirical equation for prediction of the open end correction is found for the weak shock reflection and discharge phenomena occurring at the open end of the duct with and without a baffle plate.
End milling operation is very important in machining precision components. Deterioration of surface roughness and surface geometry will cause more process for surface finishing. According to the feed rate and the cutting edge geometry, the cusp which is geometrically uncut surface is determined. To reduce the cost for dinishing operation after end milling, the cusp must be remaianed in small size as possible. Due to the cylindrical type of the end mill, tool deflection is one of the main problems in surface generation. The cutting resistance and the rigidity of the end mill will determine the size of tool deflection. One more important factor which deteriorate surface quality comes from the error in manufacturing end mills. Run-out of end mill which is the difference of the radius of each cutting edges will produce the difference of the cusp size in every rotation of end mill. These three major factors to the surface quality will be analized and the result will be compared with experimental ressult.
Cross-laminated timber (CLT) is a relatively new engineered wood for timber construction. It is a great shear wall material. It was known that the shear performance of the CLT wall depends on the performance of connections. In connection, nail or screw has to be installed with a certain distance from the end of the timber. Current building code specifies the distance on the name of end distance. The end distance was decided as a minimum distance not to make splitting or tearing out in lumber or glued laminated timber. As a relatively new engineered wood, the end distance of CLT connection need to be identified because CLT is cross-wisely glued lumber products like plywood. Different from glued laminated timber or lumber, cross layer of CLT may prevent wood from splitting or tearing-out. As a result, the end distance of CLT was expected to be reduced than glued laminated timber. The shorter end distance may let more versatile connector design possible. In this study, prior to developing novel connection for CLT, the end distance of CLT connection was experimentally investigated to identify the end distance limitation. The experiments showed that the end distance can be reduced from 7D to 6D, in case of the tested CLT combination and screw in this study.
