Experimental model studies were carried out to evaluate the end condition for drilled shafts by applying elastic impact on the top of the shaft, which is one of the various methods using stress waves. Typical impact responses corresponding to the various end conditions including free, fixed, rock-socketed, and soft-bottom with good and poor side contact conditions, were investigated. In order to simulate these renditions, mock-up shaft models made of cement mortar were used. Small-scale laboratory experiments were also performed, and field tests were carried out for the shafts that were socketed into weathered rock. It is found that the rock-socketed condition and depth of penetration into rock ran be identified from the reflection at the interface between the soil and rock in the waveform. The soft bottom rendition can be identified, only when the side contact between shaft and surrounding rock is poor, whereas it cannot be identified when the side contact is good because the waveform is similar to that of fixed end rendition.
The general approach using sine series expansions was represented to evaluate the radiation loading from a vibrating surface on a simply supported cylinder. In this paper, the fluid-loading coefficients (radiation impedance) for a submerged finite cylindrical shell with an arbitrary end condition are defined and evaluated. The vibrations of cylindrical shell are expressed by using cosine series expansions to analyze the radiation impedance for a finite cylindrical shell. It is possible to represent the displacements at both ends of cylindrical shell in comparison with sine series. The direct and cross modal components of fluid-loading coefficients are shown and the validity of cosine series expansions are verified from the results of numerical computations. This approach and results are directly applicable in the analysis of sound radiation from subemerged finite cylindrical shell with arbitrary end conditions.

The dynamic characteristics of turning processes are complex, non-linear and time-varying. Consequently, the conventional techniques based on crisp mathematical model may not guarantee surface roughness regulation. This paper presents a fuzzy controller which can regulate surface roughness in milling process using end-mill under varying cutting condition. The fuzzy control rules are established from operator experience and expert knowledge about the process dynamics. regulation which increases productivity and tool life is achieved by adjusting feed-rate according to the variation of cutting conditions. The performance of the proposed controller is evaluated by cutting experiments in the converted CNC milling machine. The result of experiments show that the proposed fuzzy controller has a good surface roughness regulation capability in spite of the variation of cutting conditions.

The effect of end restraints for adjoining members is the different variables influencing the column ultimate strength and the behavior. The propose of this study is to analyze eccentrically loaded reinforced concrete columns with the end restraind effect having rectangular cross-section and general boundary conditions. Accordingly, this investigation are to construct a typical analytical model of the reinforced concrete columns with general end boundary conditions. The mechanical components of the analytical model are to be rationally defined the actual behavior as possible, and the different variables influencing the behavior and the ultimate strength of the reinforced concrete columns are investigated by using a parametric study.

For the improvement of geometrical accuracy in end milling, cutting method and cutting condition selection are investigated in this paper. As machining processes are composed of several steps such as roughing, semi-finishing. and finishing, cutting forces and tool deflection are calculated considering surface shape generated by the previous cutting. The effects of tool teeth numbers, tool geometry, and cutting conditions on the form error are analyzed. Using the from error prediction method from tool deflection, cutting condition for geometrical accuracy improvement is discussed. The characteristics and the difference of generated surface shape in up and down milling are dealt with and over-cut free condition in up milling is presented. The form error reduction method by alternating up and down milling is also suggested. The effectiveness of the presented method is examined from a set of cutting tests under various cutting conditions. This research contributes to cutting process optimization for the geometrical accuracy improvement in die and mold manufacture.

For improvement of productivity and cutting tool lift, cutting force in end milling needs to be predicted accurately. In order to analyze cutting force, the cutting dynamics was modelled mathematically by using chip load, cutting geometry, and the relationship between cutting forces and the chip load. Specific cutting force coefficients of the cutting dynamics model were obtained by average cutting forces, tool diameter, cutting speed, fled, axial depth and radial depth of cut. The effects of the cutting conditions on the specific cutting force constants in milling were studied. The model is verified through comparisons of model predicted cutting forces with measured cutting forces obtained from machining experiments.

Machining accuracy is closely related with tool deflection induced by cutting forces. In this research, cutting forces and tool deflection in end milling are expressed as a closed form of tool rotational angle and cutting conditions. The discrete cutting fores caused by periodic tool entry and exit are represented as a continuous function using the Fourier series expansion. Tool deflection is predicted by direct integration of the distributed loads on cutting edges. Cutting conditions, tool geometry, run-outs and the stiffness of tool clamping part are considered together far cutting forces and tool deflection estimation. Compared with numerical methods, the presented method has advantages in prediction time reduction and the effects of feeding and run-outs on cutting forces and tool deflection can be analyzed quantitatively. This research can be effectively used in real time machining error estimation and cutting condition selection for error minimization since the form accuracy is easily predicted from tool deflection curve.
This paper presents an integrated machining error compensation method based on captured images of tool deflection shapes in flat end-milling processes. This approach allows us to avoid modeling machining characteristics (cutting forces, tool deflections and machining errors etc.) and accumulating calculation errors induced by several simulations. For this, a high-speed camera captured images of real deformed tool shapes which were cutting under given machining conditions. Using image processes and a machining error model, it is possible to estimate tool deflection in cutting conditions modeled and to compensate for machining errors using an iterative algorithm correcting tool paths. This corrected tool path can effectively reduce machining errors in the flat end-milling process. Experiments are carried out to validate the approaches proposed in this paper. The proposed error compensation method can be effectively implemented in a real machining situation, producing much smaller errors.

The condition of a high voltage motor was monitored with the motor performance monitor (MPM) at the motor control center. The MPM detected defects in the rotor bar and end ring and input power according to motor and load conditions. The assessment of the condition of a coal pulverizer motor indicated it was clearly in good condition in terms of the rotor bars, over voltage, and motor performance. However, the side bands at frequency, 56.48 Hz indicated existence of rotor end-ring fault. The large torque ripple indicated abnormal operating conditions. After visual inspection, it has been observed that an impeller blade of the circulating water pump was broken off causing the irregular torque pattern.

Owing to the development of CNC machine tools and automatic programing software, the milling process with ball-end mill has become the most widely used process where three-dimensional precision machining is important. In this study, the ball-end milling process has been analyzed and a cutting force model has been developed to predict the cutting force acting on the ball-end mill on given machining conditions. The development of the model is based on the analysis of geometry of a ball-end mill an the oblique cutting process. The cutting edges of ball-end mills are considered as a series of infinitesimal elements and the geometry of the cutting edge element each cutting edge element is straight. The oblique cutting process in the small cutting edge element has been analyzed as orthogonal cutting process in the plane containing the cutting velocity vector and chip-flow vector. Hence, with the orthogonal cutting data obtained from orthogonal turning test, the cutting forces can be predicted through the model. The predicted cutting forces has shown a fairly good agreement with the test results in various plane cutting conditions.
