Influence of end-joint methods on magnetization loss in striated helical conductors

  • To reduce the magnetization loss of a coated conductor, the striation and the transposition have to be accomplished for magnetic decoupling. The loss reduction effect in incomplete as well as complete striated YBCO CCs was reported in previous research. At the case of the incomplete striated sample, the end region of the sample is non-striated. So, it is not jointed with each other. In power applications, the joint is needed because current leads must be connected with HTS coils. In this research, the influence of end-joint methods with copper and superconducting joint on magnetization loss in striated YBCO CC and spiral winding samples are presented and compared with non-striated measured result.

  • The concentrated winding configurations offer significant advantage for reducing end windings. These machines are generally used in low speed high torque application due to relatively low copper loss. However, numbers of fractional slot construction make the designer hard to properly choose pole and slot numbers for the certain application. This paper provides the general information of possible fractional slot concentrated double layer winding machine.

Analysis of Insulation Condition in Traction Motor Stator Windings (견인전동기 고정자 권선의 절연상태 분석)

  • Diagnostic, surge and ac breakdown tests are widely used to evaluate the insulation condition of stator winding in traction motor. Diagnostic test included ac current, tan delta and maximum partial discharge. The result of diagnostic test indicates that five kinds of stator windings are good condition. Surge test was peformed to confirm the healthy of turn insulation in stator windings. This test is very easy to detect the turn insulation failure between normal and defect stator windings. After completing the diagnostic test, ac breakdown test has conducted gradually increasing ac voltage, until the stator winding punctured. No. 5 stator windings failed near rated voltage of 18.9 kV The breakdown voltage of No. 1 stator windings was 13.0 kV The ac breakdown voltage of normal winding is about 1.45 times higher than that of defect windings. The failure was located in a line-end coil at the exit from the core slot.

Composite Pressure Vessel for Natural Gas Vehicle by Filament Winding (필라멘트 와인딩 공정에 의한 천연가스 차량용 복합재료 압력용기)

  • Composite pressure vessels with HDPE (high density polyethlyne) liner with metal boss at each end were developed by Filament Winding Process. The vessel is composed of a dome-shaped part at each end and a cylinder-shaped part at the middle of the vessel. The environmental tests carried out for possible vessel materials such as High Density Polyethlyn (HDPE), resins and reinforcing fibers up to a year showed no significant damages. The boss was designed to minimize the gas leak which was verified by FEM analysis. Most ideal fiber tension was obtained by experimental method and the fiber volume fraction, $\textrm{V}_{f}$, obtained by image analyzer were 55.4 % in cylinder and 55.6 % in dome parts, respectively. Winding pattern is programmed to control the composite thickness in the dome areas such that the failure of the vessel may occur in the cylinder. During the cure, the vessel was rotated and a constant internal pressure of 0.62 bar was applied. From this, the vessel's burst pressure is improved by 28 %. The burst and fatigue tests for under-wound and fully wound vessel showed satisfactory results.

  • The detent force of a permanent magnet linear motor(PMLM) consists of the end force and cogging force, and should be reduced for high precision purpose applications. The cogging force comes from the electromagnetic interaction between the permanent magnets and interior teeth(or the slots) of the stator, and of which the magnitude depends on the ratio of the numbers of the armature and permanent magnet poles as well as the geometrical shape of the permanent magnet and armature pole. In order to reduce the cogging force of a PMLM, this paper proposes a new configuration which has 9 permanent magnet poles and 10 armature winding slots. By theoretical investigation of the principle of cogging force generation and simulating using finite element method, the proposed PMLM configuration is proven to give much less cogging force than the conventional configuration which has 8 permanent magnet poles and 12 armature winding slots. A proper winding algorithm, modified (A, A, A) winding method, for the proposed configuration is also suggested when the proposed PMLM is operating as a 3 phase synchronous machine. A theoretical and numerical calculation shows that the proposed configuration makes slightly bigger back-emf and thrust force under same exciting current and total number of winding turns condition.

  • 30 kVA rotating-field type Super-Conducting Generator is built and tested with intensive FE(Finite Element) analysis. The generator is driven by VVVF inverter-fed induction motor. Open Circuit Characteristic(OCC) and Short Circuit Characteristic(SCC) are presented in this paper. Also, the test result under the light load(up to 3.6 kW) are given. From the design stage, 2-D FE analysis coupled with the external circuit has been performed. The external circuit includes the end winding resistance and reactance as well as two dampers. When compared with the test data, the FE analysis results show a very good agreement.

  • 고전압 가스차단기용 조작기로 개발된 전자석 조작기(EMFA)는 크기에 비해 큰 힘을 낼 수 있고 긴 스트로크를 갖는 장점으로 다양한 차단기에 적용이 시도되고 있다. 특히 기증차단기(ACB)와 배선용 차단기(MCCB) 등 저압 차단기를 구동하기 위한 연구가 진행중이다. 그러나 적용할 차단기의 전압 등급이 낮아짐에 따라 조작기의 크기 또한 작아져야 하며, 설계 및 해석시 고려해야 할 요소 또한 달라진다. 특히 조작기의 두께가 얇아지면서 코일의 엔드와인딩(end-winding)에 의한 영향이 상대적으로 커지게 되는데, 본 논문에서는 전자석 조작기의 동작 특성 해석시 엔드와인딩 인덕턴스를 고려한 2차원 해석을 시도하였다. 엔드와인딩 형상은 원형으로 가정하였고, 동작 특성 해석에는 유한요소법과 시간차분법을 적용하였다.

  • Electricity produced at power plants is distributed to consumers through several stages of substations. At this time, an ultra-high voltage transformer is needed in the initial transmission stage to transmit a voltage suitable for each consumer. A high voltage, non-uniform electric field is formed at the end of the winding of the ultra-high voltage transformer, which carries a risk of dielectric breakdown. The winding of the ultra-high voltage transformer is an electrode, which is the key to converting the magnitude of the voltage. A non-uniform electric field is formed along the shape of the winding end, resulting in high electrical stress. The static ring installed at the upper and lower ends of the winding is used to disperse the stress at the winding end. Several variables should be considered when designing a static ring. Among them, this study examined how the curvature of the static ring, the thickness of the insulating paper, the number of barriers, and barrier thickness affect the electrical stress of the static ring using the Finite Element Method. Suggestions to be considered when designing the static ring are proposed through the FEM results.

  • Many generating stations in korea are 25 years or more old, and are nearing the end of their planned life. Financial conditions and Site, Environment problems have made approval for construction of new stations increasingly difficult, and extending the life of an existing older plant may be a palatable alternative. Therefore, To determine whether generator rewinds are necessary to achieve an extended life, and Methods are required to estimate the proable remaining life of existing winding, here, We are going to estimate insolation condition through Nondestructive diagonostic test and Aging history tests of generator Stator winding and winding conditions through deterioration characteristics due to Heat cycle.
