Smoking Rate of Workers according to Employment Status and Industry: 1992-2006 (산업군별 고용형태에 따른 근로자 흡연율 변화 추이: 1992-2006)

  • Objectives: The present study examined whether smoking rate has declined in 1992-2006 and who the high risk groups were on industry classification and employment type. Methods: Data from 91,263 persons aged 25-64 years were analyzed from three rounds of the Social Statistical Surveys of Korea between 1992 and 2006. Industry indicators were divided by the 9th Korean Standard Industrial Classification. Age-adjusted prevalence of smoking was calculated. Prevalence ratios(PR) and differences(PD) were estimated using log-binomial regression analysis. Results: Age-adjusted prevalence of smoking decreased between 1992 and 2006, specially the smoking prevalence of regular employees decreased most. PD in age-adjusted prevalence of smoking were the biggest between regular and daily employees. PR of the temporary employees', daily employees', self-employed persons' in order was wider than that of regular employees. PR increased significantly increased between 1999 and 2006 for those in manufacturing, construction, wholesale & retail trade, service industries. Increases in PR(regular/irregular) for women in service industry were statistically significant. Conclusions: Despite reducing overall cigarette smoking rates in males, the smoking rate was not reduced equally by industry classification and employment type in both genders. More adjustable antismoking policies and consideration of employment type are requested to reduce inequalities in smoking.

The Study of Preventive Improvement on Employment Type and Occupational Safety & health Activity in the Very Small Service Industry (서비스업종 사업장의 고용형태 및 직업안전보건활동 특성과 개선방안 연구)

  • The labor force has moved to services industry. An industrial accidents of service industry is three people on 10 persons in 2013. This research conducted questionnaire surveys of 1:1 directly person interviews with a structured questionnaire intended for 150 service workplaces, in order to improve occupational safety and health in very small service workplace with less than 5 employee. The survey contents is employment type, safety and health management system, safety and health training, activities. In the results, working with non-regular(informal) workers is two people on 10 persons 27.1% and female workers is about five people on 10 persons with 58.1%, and that 67.9% of non-regular workers who are mainly engaged in the production line appeared. And the work-related injury and accident experience was 3.3% and the occupational injury rate was 1.02%, especially occupational injury rate of female workers was 0.88%. Workplace risk assessment carried out in response that it was very low as 10.0% of the total. Also the safety & health education and activities was very low. Thus the safety consciousness and education is urgently required in order to prevent the industrial accidents.

Analysis of the Causal Structure Among Innovation Support Policy, Innovation and Performance: Focusing on Knowledge Service Firms (혁신 지원정책과 혁신 그리고 성과의 인과구조 분석: 지식서비스기업을 중심으로)

  • As the transition to the knowledge-based economy has been accelerated in the 21st century, the importance of the service industry has been highlighted. As the proportion of knowledge service industry in the economy and the related employment rate are continuously growing, it is necessary to bring innovation to the industry in order to increase competitiveness. In this study, the innovation types are diversified into product, process, organization, and marketing and the influencing factors have been analyzed with knowledge service firms. The complex causal relationship that is linked to the innovation performance has been analyzed by the structural equation with each innovation types as the intervening variables. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. The innovation capacity of firms in knowledge service industry has very strong positive effects either directly or indirectly on product innovation, process innovation, organizational innovation, marketing innovation, and the revenue and employment of the firm. On the other hand, innovation support policy through government intervention produce negative impact on product innovation and they do not create meaningful impact on the total effect on the revenue nor the employment growth. The innovation should ultimately create effects on the revenue and the employment of the firm. And the government support policies should be carefully designed in consideration of the final destination point of this complex causal structure.

Consideration of the Employment Effect of Food Service in Korea through an Input-output Table (산업연관표를 통한 우리나라 외식산업의 고용효과 고찰)

  • Under the crisis of global economy, a creation of employment became an important economic issue in Korea. Recently, the structure of Korea economy has been shifted to technology intensive industry. So, Korea economy has been placed on growth without job. Food service industry to overcome this situation has begun to receive attention as a good alternative. Therefore, this study analyzed the effect of the food service industry up on the national employment in Korea using input-output table. Food service industry has a high influence on related industries that are within a food system in respect to job creation. These results show that it is important to provide support policies by government to develop a food service industry.

Determinants of Employment of Regular Workers by Industrial Type: Focused on Outsourcing (산업유형별 상용직 고용 결정요인 - 외주(Outsourcing)를 중심으로)

  • This study analyzed the determinants of employment for the regular workers in the industrial type, and the results are as follows. First, 73.2% of companies use outsourcing as of 2015, and manufacturing (83.7%) is 20% p higher than non-manufacturing (63.7%). Over the past 10 years, the rate of outsourcing increased by 88.7% in manufacturing and 44.2% in non-manufacturing. Second, as a result of estimating the determinants of employment for regular workers, the variables of labor income distribution, operating profit, sales, R & D expenditure, foreign capital ratio significantly increase the employment of regular workers, while outsourcing, capital intensity, Were estimated to significantly reduce employment. Third, as a result of subdivision of industrial type and estimation of the effect of outsourcing on employment, it decreased employment of regular workers in all types. The size of influence was the biggest decrease in 'basic material type' in manufacturing industry and 'distribution service type' in non - manufacturing industry.

  • This paper is meaningful in that it empirically studies the good job condition of which young people think and the impact of job search behavior on employment. In addition, employment status and additional job search performance were set as performance variables. The main research results of this study are as follows. First, as for the good job condition considered by young people, wages and salaries in terms of companies, job stability in terms of environment, and work-life balance in terms of individuals were found. Second, job search behavior was found to be a key variable influencing employment status and job search performance. Third, it was found that job-search stress injures employment. Finally, work experience promotes employment and job search performance. Therefore, to increase the employment success rate of young people, above all, various supports for increasing the frequency of young job seekers' active job search behavior are needed. To this end, it suggests that it is necessary to develop a customized youth policy service model and to provide systematic services to meet the needs of young people.

A Study on the Trend of Employment Effect and Employment Policy in the Digital Bio-healthcare Industry (디지털바이오헬스케어산업의 고용효과 추이 변화와 고용정책에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to establish the direction of industrial policy by comparing the employment inducement effect on the related industries of the digital bio-healthcare industry. The analysis data used the three-year input-output table measured by the Bank of Korea. First, the research method was rewritten into 7 major industries to compare statistical data by period. Second, the Bank of Korea's industry-related analysis methodology was utilized. Third, the weight was reflected and compared by employment, production, and investment sectors of the digital bio-healthcare industry. As a result of the analysis, first, the employment sector had a higher effect than the average of the entire industry, second, the production sector was low, and third, the investment sector required investment in the service sector. The conclusions drawn from the analysis showed that direct investment and continuous investment are required in the employment sector, the development of professional manpower is urgent, and direct investment and long-term investment are effective in the production sector.

  • This paper searches for programs for creating increased employment in local society in important occupation sectors such as education and training services, insurance and social welfare services, culture and arts, housing and environmental service fields. As part of an improvement plan, while strengthening investment in education training infrastructure for the suppliers of social services, cooperation and coordination by the public and private sectors is necessary. Also necessary are identifying model social enterprises that are based upon joint efforts for success of social enterprises and publicity efforts necessary.

  • In this paper it is investigated how the number of work experiences is distributed among college graduates who have ever entered the labor market and built up career by turnover. To do so, we classified the type of work experience and, moreover, conduct ANOVA to explore wage differentials caused by the number of work experience and by the type of work experience, using the GOMS(graduates occupational mobility survey) from 2006 to 2007.
