아동과 어머니의 조화적합성 및 어머니의 공감능력과 양육스트레스의 관계 (The Relationships between Child-Mother Goodness-of-fit, Mothers' Empathy and Parenting Stress)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between child-mother 'goodness-of-fit', mothers' empathy and parenting stress. A sample of 324 mothers of 5th graders in the Seoul Metropolitan area participated in this study. Mothers answered questionnaires on the levels of their parenting stress, empathy and child-mother 'goodness-of-fit'. Data were analyzed using Pearson's correlation coefficients, as well as multiple and hierarchical regressions. Child-mother 'goodness-of-fit', as well as mothers' empathy was a predictor for parenting stress; significant interaction effects were found between child-mother 'goodness-of-fit' and the mothers' empathy on parenting stress. These results indicate the need for possible intervention in relation to mothers' empathy levels and to reduce parenting stress.

유아의 공감에 관련된 변인 연구 (Factors related to Young Children′s Empathy)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify how characteristics of young children (sex, age, temperament), mothers (employed or unemployed, intimacy between mother and child, parenting attitudes), and home environment (pet, TV/Video viewing) relate to young children's empathy and to examine the relative effects of then variables on young children's empathy. The subjects for this study were 300 3-, 4-, and 5-year-olds selected from kindergartens and day-care centers in Busan. Data were analyzed via t-test, correlation, and multiple regression. Results showed that girls had higher empathy score than boys. Young children's empathy was positively correlated with the sociability of young child's temperament, intimacy between mother and young child, reasoning guidance, affect, achievement of parenting attitudes, and parental intervention toward young child after TV/video viewing. However, young children's empathy was correlated negatively with authoritarian control of parenting attitudes. Among then variables, young children's sex was the most significant variable.

자폐스펙트럼장애 환자에서의 인지적 공감 및 정서적 공감의 신경 상관물 (Neural Correlates of Cognitive and Emotional Empathy in Patients with Autism Spectrum Disorder)

  • Objectives: Individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are considered to have problems with empathy. It has recently been suggested that there are two systems for empathy; cognitive and emotional. We aimed to investigate the neural response to cognitive and emotional empathy and elucidate the neurobiological aspects of empathy in patients with ASD. Methods: We recruited patients with ASD (N=17, ASD group) and healthy controls (HC) (N=22, HC group) for an functional magnetic resonance imaging study. All of the subjects were scanned while performing cognitive and emotional empathy tasks. The differences in brain activation between the groups were assessed by contrasting their neural activity during the tasks. Results: During both tasks, the ASD group showed greater neural activities in the bilateral occipital area compared to the HC group. The ASD group showed more activation in the bilateral precunei only during the emotional empathy task. No brain regions were more activated in the HC group than in the ASD group during the cognitive empathy task. While performing the emotional empathy task, the HC group exhibited greater neural activities in the left middle frontal gyrus and right anterior cingulate gyrus than the ASD group. Conclusion: This study showed that the brain regions associated with cognitive and emotional empathy in ASD patients differed from those in healthy individuals. The results of this study suggest that individuals with ASD might have defects both in cognitive empathy and in emotional empathy.

요양병원 간호사의 공감능력과 치매 환자 통증에 대한 태도 및 통증관리 수행도 (Geriatric Hospital Nurses' Empathy, Attitude and Pain Management for Patients with Dementia)

  • Purpose: The purposes of this study were to identify nurses' empathy, attitude and pain management for patients with dementia and the factors associated with their performance of pain management. Methods: The study design was a cross-sectional survey. The participants in the study were 114 nurses working at 12 geriatric hospitals. This study utilized the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI), which measures four empathy factors. Nurses' attitudes toward pain and performance of pain management, and general and pain related characteristics were measured by self-administered questionnaires. Results: Barriers to pain management for patients with dementia were absence of guidelines, prejudice of pain in dementia, and lack of time and knowledge deficit. There was a significant positive correlation between empathic concern and attitudes, perspective-taking of empathy and pain management. There was also a correlation between empathy and pain management. Stepwise linear regression analysis indicated that the significant factors affecting the performance of pain management included perspective-taking of empathy, use of pain management in dementia guideline and attitudes toward pain. These factors explained 24.0% of variance. Conclusion: The findings from this study suggest that empathy and positive attitude are the important provider attributes which needs to be enhanced by educational programs. It is also necessary to develop and disseminate guidelines for a dementia specific pain management.

Empathy, cyberbullying, and cybervictimization among Filipino adolescents

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to gain insights into empathy, cyberbullying, and cybervictimization among Filipino adolescents. Methods: The participants were 168 junior high school students in the 7th to 10th grades at a public high school in Cavite Province, Philippines. Data were collected on demographic characteristics, the Basic Empathy Scale, and Revised Cyber Bullying Inventory-II scores. The data were analyzed in SPSS using descriptive statistics (frequency and mean), the independent t-test, bivariate correlation, and one-way analysis of variance. Results: The degree of empathy did not show a statistically significant relationship with cyberbullying (r=-.07, p=.359) but did show a significant relationship with cybervictimization (r=.18, p=.025). Furthermore, cyberbullying had a statistically significant association with cybervictimization (r=.60, p<.001). Conclusion: Although empathy does not necessarily affect cyberbullying, higher levels of empathy were found among cyberbullying victims. However, an alarming result of this study is the possibility that victims may become cyberbullies. Therefore, we should highlight empathy as part of efforts to prevent cyberbullying and to solve various cyber-related problems. Since cyberbullying and cybervictimization are closely related, it is important to focus on this relationship and to make multilateral efforts to ensure that cyberbullying does not lead to other negative issues.

Effects of Verbal and Nonverbal Communication Subfactors on Purchase Intention through Empathy and Product Reliability

  • In this study, the effects of show host's verbal communication subfactors, such as paralanguage, friendliness, and professionalism, as well as nonverbal communication subfactors, such as demonstration attitude, appearance, and attractiveness, on purchase intention were examined by evaluating customer empathy and product reliability. Data was collected from 20s-50s females. SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 23.0 were used for data analysis. The results revealed that professionalism and friendliness had a positive impact on customer empathy; however, friendliness had a negative impact on product reliability. Moreover, nonverbal communication subfactors had a positive impact on empathy, and appearance had a positive impact on product reliability. In contrast, attractiveness had a negative impact on product reliability, whereas empathy and product reliability had a positive impact on purchase intention. Thus, ensuring appropriate verbal and nonverbal communication is essential for customer empathy and product reliability. Given that a show host's friendliness, professional verbal communication, demonstration attitude, appearance, and attractiveness have a positive impact on customer empathy, these factors should be considered critical qualities of show hosts.

아동의 공감발달 및 관련변인 (A Study on Empathic Development in Korean Children)

  • Empathy was defined in this study as the vicarious affective response of a person to the perceived experience of another. The purpose of this study was to study the relationship between empathic development of children and intimacy with parents, socio-economic status, and children's empathic response to specific affective situations happy, sad, angry and fearful. The subjects for this study were 8-, 10-, and 12-year-old children attending an elementary school located in Seoul. Among the subjects, 158 boys and 149 girls lived with their parents, and 20 boys and 35 girls were reared in orphanges. They were from a residential area with higher, middle, and lower class families. The instruments consisted of two modified empathy measures and two questionnaires developed by the researcher. One of the empathy measures was based on Feshbach & Roe's affective situation test for empathy. In order to determine the eight themes, 20 children were interviewed individually about situations that made them "happy, sad, angry, and afraid". From the pool of responses, eight themes representing happy, sad, angry and fearful situations were selected. Each story consisted of a series of three pictures accompanying narration. Another modified empathy measure was developed by the researcher based upon Bryant's empathy scale. This measure consisted of 17 statements describing happy, sad, angry and fearful situations. The items in this scale were selected from a pilot study. The two questionnaires developed by the researcher were to test children's intimacy for their parents and feminity. The data was analyzed with T-test and F-test. Children's intimacy with their parents, particularly, son's intimacy with their mothers, was a significant variable in empathic development. Children living with their parents had higher scores on Feshbach & Roe's Empathy Test than those brought up in orphanages. In general, the older the children the higher the empathy score. Girls were more empathic than boys on Bryant's scale. The subjects showed their highest empathy score in the sad, and the lowest in the fearful situation. The older the children the higher the empathy score in the sad and angry situations. These results reflected children's life experiences and cultural differences. Particularly, mother-son intimacy found in this study contrasts with the mother-daughter intimacy found in American studies.

도시의 문화적 공감대로서 콘텐츠씬의 인식: 콘텐츠 투어리즘 사례를 중심으로 (Awareness of Contents Scene as a Cultural Empathy of Cities: A case of 'Contents Tourism')

  • 공감(Empathy)은 타인에 대한 온전한 이해를 통해 타인의 입장에서 그 사람의 감정을 느끼고 이해하고, 반응하는 능력이다. 최근, 개인 간의 관계적 측면에서의 감정적 공감뿐만 아니라 사회를 유지하는 기본 원리로서 공감을 바라보는 '사회적 공감'에 이르기까지 '공감'의 문제가 중요한 화두로 떠오르고 있다. 본 연구는 현대 사회를 움직이는 새로운 동력으로서 공감의 문제에 주목하고, 도시에서 이루어지는 문화적 공감에 대한 공간적 적용으로서 '도시씬(urban scene)'에 주목했다. 도시씬은 도시를 소비의 공간으로 접근하며 도시공간들이 가진 고유한 속성에 따라 분류하고, 그 특징들을 분석한다. 본 연구는 기존의 도시씬 이론을 공감의 관점에서 재접근하고, 새로운 도시 소비의 형태로서 콘텐츠에 반영된 도시이미지를 소비하는 방식으로서 '콘텐츠 투어리즘'의 구체적인 사례를 적용하여 새로운 도시씬으로서 '콘텐츠씬'을 제안하고 그 의미와 가능성을 제시한다.

보육교사의 공감능력 및 교수몰입이 행복감에 미치는 영향 (The Influence of Childcare Teachers' Empathy Ability and teaching flow on Happiness)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 보육교사의 공감능력, 교수몰입, 행복감에 미치는 영향을 분석하는데 있다. 연구대상은 U시 보육교사 111명을 대상으로 실시하였다. 분석방법은 SPSS 22.0 프로그램을 사용하여 빈도분석, 신뢰도분석, 상관관계분석을 실시하였으며, 변수 간의 인과관계에 대한 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 보육교사의 공감능력이 행복감에 미치는 하위요인인 인지적 공감 요인은 행복감에 긍정적으로 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 반면, 교사의 공감능력의 하위요인인 정서적 공감 요인은 행복감에 유의미한 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 보육교사의 교수몰입이 행복감에 미치는 영향을 살펴본 결과 교수몰입 요인은 행복감에 긍정적으로 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 보육교사의 공감능력 하위요인인 인지적 공감 요인이 높을수록 행복감이 높아지며, 교수몰입 요인이 높을수록 행복감이 높아진다는 것을 의미하는 것이다. 본 연구의 시사점은 보육교사의 공감능력, 교수몰입, 행복감과의 관계를 파악함으로써 보육교사들의 행복감 향상을 위한 방안 마련의 기초자료가 될 것으로 사료된다.

대구·경북지역 언어재활사의 공감능력과 직무만족도 간의 관련성에 대한 융합 연구 (A Convergence Study on the Relationship between Empathy Abilities and Job Satisfaction of Speech and Language Rehabilitation in Daegu and Gyeongbuk)

  • 본 연구는 대구·경북지역 언어재활사의 개인적 특성과 공감능력 및 직무만족도 간의 관계와 특히 인지적 및 정서적 공감능력과 직무만족도 간의 관계를 파악하여 언어재활사의 직무만족도 향상을 위한 기초 자료를 제공하기 위한 융합연구이다. 연구대상은 대구·경북지역에서 근무하는 언어재활사를 대상으로 총 111명의 설문조사를 분석하였다. 자료분석은 연구 목적에 따라 SPSS/PC 21.0 통계 프로그램을 이용하여 t-test와 ANOVA 및 상관분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과 개인적 특성과 공감능력 및 직무만족도 간의 관련성이 높게 나타났고, 공감능력의 하위 요인인 인지적 및 정서적 공감능력과 직무만족도 간의 관련성이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 추후 집체 및 소집단이나 온·오프라인 교육 등 다양한 교육 프로그램 연계와 대학에서의 공감능력 향상을 위한 비교과 및 교과목 개설이 필요하다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 향후 공감능력 향상을 위한 전국 단위 언어재활사를 대상으로 한 비교과 및 교과목 이수여부에 따른 언어재활사의 공감능력과 직무만족도를 알아보기 위한 후속연구가 필요하다.
