  • Fire fighter are exposed to the situations which are hard to predict due to continuous and accidental changes which hinder their fire fighting activity. As these threats of safety accident act as fear factors, they are doing insecure fire fighting activities. Therefore, as unclear and abnormal risks of working environment such as the riskiness of expansion of disaster, instability, obstacles of activities, abnormality, urgency, etc. increase, safety accidents are caused. This study analyzes the actual condition of safety and health and awareness of fire fighter who are exposed safety accidents during their fire fighting activities and utilize such result as the basis data to secure safety of fire fighter, keep efficient safety control and prevent accidents. The results of analysis are as follows. As rescue works among all fire-fighting works shows the highest emotional stabilization and the highest post-traumatic stress disorder is shown in fire sergeant level positions, and fire fighters whose working period is 10-15 years, reinforcing safety training to long-term workers is necessary. As the result of survey regarding safety awareness, the highest awareness level was shown in fire sergeant level positions, and fire fighters whose working period is over 20 years, and when it comes to operation of fire fighting equipments, fire-fighting workers and workers having 1-4 years of working period showed high safety awareness. The more serious injury in a fire fighter experienced as the first injury after working as a fire-fighter, the more cause-and-effect relationship was shown between personal physical condition and work, and it is shown as obstacles of fire fighting activities and affects to post-traumatic stress disorder. Moreover, as after-work off duty activities also affect to official disaster, systematic improvement of working environment is required. • The article is devoted to analyzing the police influence on road safety formation. The globalization processes confirm the study's relevance, provoking population mobility and the need to increase freight traffic. The study aims to identify the factors that affect road safety and the activities of the police and the EU transport safety units. An empirical analysis using factor analysis, correlation analysis, and general scientific methods of cognition were carried out to achieve the goal. The analysis results found that the number of police officers affects road safety, but not in all countries, which confirms the importance of other factors. Based on the analysis results of the scientific literature, the factors affecting transport safety are legislative regulation, the use of innovative technologies, transport infrastructure, geography, and psycho-physical and emotional drivers factors. It has been proved that the police authorities and units cannot fully ensure transport safety in the European Union because the safety is formed by a complex of actions by the state and road users.

  • The Daegu Metropolitan Transit Corporation Advisory Committee has chosen 5 styles of bridge-pier designs, including coating, graphic, planting, billboard and safety-facility style, based on the results of landscape simulations from a previous study. This study was conducted to investigate citizen's preferences and emotional images for each style of bridge-pier design, by aiming at the pilot urban landscape improvement section from Daebong Bridge in Suseong Gu to the crossroads near Dongseong Elementary School in Daegu Metropolitan City. The questionnaire was drawn up regarding the urban landscape improvement plans applied to the research area, and the questions were about citizens' perception of bridge-pier structures generated by constructing a light rail transit, important factors to consider when designing bridge piers, preferences for each style of bridge-pier design and emotional impact. 60.4% of the survey participants were found to perceive bridge-pier structures as unattractive, so it was necessary to improve them aesthetically. Regarding visual factors of bridge-pier designs, color was most important at 5.81, followed by form at 5.57. Regarding aesthetic component factors, harmony was most important at 6.07, followed by amenity at 6.00. In the survey participants' preference for each bridge-pier design, the graphic style was preferred most at 4.14, followed by the planting style. In emotional adjectives used for each bridge-pier design, the coating style, the safety-facility style and the non-treatment style showed similar results, and all of these styles were evaluated as artificial, lifeless and desolate. The graphic style and the billboard style showed different tendencies, depending on visual factors and aesthetic component factors applied to the graphic design used for these two bridge-pier styles. Since natural materials were used for the planting style, however, it showed high preference for such emotional images as natural and lively. The emotional adjective 'amiable' was found to affect citizens' preferences for each bridge-pier aesthetic improvement plan most, and it was also analyzed to have an effect on all the styles of bridge-pier designs. To improve the landscape of a light rail transit being constructed inside the urban area, this study quantitatively extracted citizens' preferences and emotional adjective for every style of bridge-pier design applied to the pilot urban landscape improvement section, and it is expected that the results of this study will be used as basic data to improve the landscape of bridge piers.

  • To suggest a more efficient way of delivering information for process control under computerized environment, population stereotypes of colors were tested with 57 Korean subjects. The subjects were asked to associate 11 colors salient at electronic video displays with 55 pairs of adjectives that might be used when they explain the current state of process. The levels of association were evaluated with semantic differential methods by 7 point scales. Based on the multivariate analyses, the 55 pairs of adjectives were grouped into three distinct dimensions. The emotional maps of the 11 colors with respect to each dimension were presented. The Quantitative relationships between the colors and subjective impressions were also calculated by quantification theory I. On the basis of these color associations, it was suggested a general guideline for color coding when delivering process information

  • In the environment where human coexists with robot, the problem of safety is very important. But it is difficult to separate the robot from the human in time-domain or space-domain unlike the case of factory automation, so a new concept is needed. One approach is to notice sensory and emotional feeling of human, and in this study "pain" is focused, which is a typical unpleasant feeling when the robot contacts us. In this paper, to design the controller based on the pain, an artificial superficial pain model caused by impact is proposed. This ASPM model consists of mechanical pain model, skin model and gate control by artificial neural networks (ANNs). The proposed ASPM is evaluated by experiments.
