  • To interpret the perception that originates from tactile sensibility during people touch and recognize the object surfaces, this study focuses on the development of a friction model that can describe the interaction of a stylus pen sliding over the counter surfaces. In addition, the study includes several other experimental factors such as the pressure, temperature, and topology of surface, which can have an effect on the emotional user experience concerning various surfaces; this research aims to suggest a method to quantitatively evaluate the relation between these experimental parameters and emotional user experience. Accordingly, the objective of research comprises the friction characteristic technology for measurement of fine tribological behavior and a standard to quantify the emotional feedback. Existing panels or input devices that provide interaction feedback about user actions simply operate with a single frequency vibration or sound response. On the contrary, this research investigates various interaction characteristics including friction force, frequency, and surface topology synthetically. Using the developed model, which can explain the relation between the friction parameters and emotional user experience, developers can design their product in order to provide the user with expected emotional sensibility. Consequently, it can contribute to reduce the development cost about sensitivity model.

  • So far, there have been mary studies on human emotions and the emotional side of products in the field of emotional engineering. Contemporary emotion-related researches have focused mainly on the relationship between product aesthetics and the emotional responses elicited by the products, but little is known about emotions elicited from using the products. In this study we have extracted some emotional words that can come up during user interaction with a product and reveal emotional changes. Firstly, we assembled a set of emotional words that were sufficient to represent a general overview of Korean emotions, collected from various literature studies in the field of psychology, linguistics, emotional engineering. Secondly, we found emotional words from collecting user opinion on the website. In this study, we used heavy traffic websites such as shopping mall and mania sites. Finally the emotional words were collected from verbal protocols by using Think Aloud technique. The collected words were integrated according to standards and they were applied on evaluation survey twice for evaluating their appropriateness. This survey was conducted for identification of emotional expressions while using a product. Finally, we extracted 88 emotional words for measuring user's emotions expressed while using products. And we categorized the 88 words to form 6 groups by using factor analysis. The 6 categories that were extracted as a result of this study, such as aesthetics, satisfaction in usability, novelty, uncomfortable- ness, pleasure and excellence were found to be user's representative emotions expressed while using products. It is expected that emotional words and user's representative emotions extracted in this study will be used as subjective evaluation data that is required to measure user's emotional changes while using a product.

  • In recent years, a large amount of music content is distributed in the Internet environment. In order to retrieve the music content effectively that user want, various studies have been carried out. Especially, it is also actively developing music recommendation system combining emotion model with MIR(Music Information Retrieval) studies. However, in these studies, there are several drawbacks. First, structure of emotion model that was used is simple. Second, because the emotion model has not designed for Korean language, there is limit to process the semantic of emotional words expressed with Korean. In this paper, through extending the existing emotion model, we propose a new emotion model KOREM(KORean Emotional Model) based on Korean. And also, we design and implement ontology using emotion model proposed. Through them, sorting, storage and retrieval of music content described with various emotional expression are available.

  • Some serious neck diseases are closely related to negative emotion. In order to explain the etiology deeply, we assumed that upper trapezius is innervated by emotional motor system (EMS), a special motor system. And then we developed an upper trapezius-specific surface electromyography acquisition system concerned with its special innervation to prove our assumption. Through a targeted experiment, we found that upper trapezius is indeed innervated by EMS.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of college students majoring in the engineering on career decision difficulties and emotional and personality career difficulties. Data is consisted of 430 college students. We tested the research question by employing the PSM and the multi-regression model. The result showed that college students majoring in the engineering have difficulties in the information about self, the lack of information, and the outside control on career decision more than others. We suggested that career education and counseling of understanding themselves such as interesting, aptitude, and occupational value should be provided for students majoring in the engineering.

  • Considerations of how to facilitate aging-in-place(AIP) are becoming increasingly pertinent as care-givers are overwhelmed by an aging population. Aging friendly home-care services combined with IT can satisfy the needs of the elderly suffer from chronic diseases such as depression and dementia. Therefore, we propose future smart phone services and application technologies which can estimate emotional states of the aged and respond to the desire to be happy with mental health, connectedness and consolation from peoples. Firstly, we introduce depression measurement techniques to estimate the severity of depression using multiple sensors. At second, the emotional responding services are categorized to four parts and the details are described. Lastly, we propose the process to implement emotional communication and the application techniques(services) to fulfill the emotional satisfaction and mental healthcare for AIP using smart phone as a mediator.

  • In this paper, a chatbot for emotional stress recognition and management using rule-based method and NLP is designed and developed to tackle various emotional stresses of people through questionnaire. For this, Dialogflow as open chatbot development platform and Facebook messenger as chatting platform are used. We can build natural and resourceful conversational experiences through predefined questions by using powerful tools of Dialogflow, and can use developed chatbot on the Facebook page messenger. Developed chatbot perceives emotional stresses of user by user-input which is either text or choice of predefined answer. It also gives user questions according to the user's feeling, and assess the strength of the emotional stresses, and provide a solution to the user. Further research can improve the developed chatbot by using open Korean NLP library and database of emotions and stresses.

  • In this paper, experimental studies of force tracking control for the crack sealing robot are presented. Crack sealing robot is built to detect, track and seal the crack on the pavement. Before sealing, crack must be detected by a laser sensor and a camera sensor, then cleaned for a better sealing job. In order to maintain contact with the ground force control is required to brush all dirt in the crack out for preparing sealing cracks with tars. Impedance control algorithm is presented to regulate a specified desired force. Experimental studies of the proposed force control algorithm are conducted under unknown environment stiffness and location. Performances of force control algorithm are stable and excellent.

  • In this paper, a crack sealing robot is developed. The crack sealing robot is built to detect, track, and seal the crack on the pavement. The sealing robot is required to brush all dirt in the crack out for preparing a better sealing job. Camera calibration has been done to get accurate crack position. In order to perform a cleaning job, the explicit force control method is used to regulate a specified desired force in order to maintain constant contact with the ground. Experimental studies of force tracking control are conducted under unknown environment stiffness and location. Crack tracking control is performed. Force tracking results are excellent and the robot finds and tracks the crack very well.
