Mediating effect of negative perceived stress on the relationship between premenstrual syndrome and emotional eating

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Emotional eating is one of the eating behaviors in which negative emotions affect eating. During the luteal phase, premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and its associated psychological and physical symptoms can appear in some women, and a few of them suffer from premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), a severe form of PMS. Some women diagnosed with PMS/PMDD experience emotional eating during the luteal phase, which may be a coping mechanism for psychological stress. This study aimed to investigate how PMS/PMDD and negatively perceived stress are related to emotional eating. SUBJECTS/METHODS: A total of 409 women aged 20 to 39 yrs with a body mass index (BMI) ranging from 18.5 to 29.9 kg/m2 participated in this study. Participants who responded to all the questions of the Shortened Premenstrual Assessment Form, Negative Perceived Stress Scale, and Emotional Eater Questionnaire were divided into a PMDD and a non-PMDD group according to the cut-off value for PMDD diagnosis. Independent t-tests and mediation analyses were performed to compare the 2 groups. RESULTS: No significant differences between the 2 groups were found in terms of BMI; however, the average values for emotional eating, PMS, and negative perceived stress of the PMDD group were significantly higher than those of the non-PMDD group. Only negative perceived stress had a significant effect on emotional eating in the non-PMDD group. In the PMDD group, PMS was statistically significant for both negative perceived stress and emotional eating mediated by negative perceived stress. Consequently, it appeared to have a partial or complete mediation depending on the independent variable for the PMDD group. CONCLUSIONS: This study highlights the importance of managing negative perceived stress to control emotional eating in PMS/PMDD for improved women's health.

개인기부자들의 정서적, 가시적 효용감이 정신적 웰빙에 미치는 영향 : 자기수용의 매개효과와 삶에 대한 감사의 조절효과를 중심으로 (Effect of Private Donors' Emotional or Demonstrable Utility on their Mental Health: Focusing on Mediation Effect of Self-Acceptance and Moderation Effect of the Gratitude for their lives)

  • 본 연구에서는 구조방정식 모형을 토대로, 사회복지기관을 후원하는 개인기부자들이 기부행위를 통해서 경험하는 정서적 효용감 및 가시적 효용감이 이들의 정신적 웰빙에 미치는 직접효과, 자기수용의 매개효과, 그리고 후원 후 삶에 대한 감사함이 미치는 조절효과를 밝혔다. 주요 발견점을 요약하면, 첫째, 후원활동을 하면서 삶에 대한 감사함이 증가한 개인기부자 집단의 경우, 기부활동을 통한 정서적 효용감이 정신적 웰빙에 정적 직접효과를 미쳤지만, 가시적 효용감은 정신적 웰빙에 유의미한 직접효과가 발견되지 않았다. 자기수용은 정서적 효용이 정신적 웰빙에 미치는 영향에 부분매개효과가 있었고, 가시적 효용감이 정신적 웰빙에 미치는 영향에는 자기수용이 완전매개효과가 있음이 밝혀졌다. 둘째, 후원 후 자신의 삶에 대한 감사함이 증가하지 않은 집단에서도, 정신적 웰빙에 정서적 효용감은 정적 직접효과가 있었지만, 가시적 효용감은 유의미한 영향이 없었다. 그리고 자기수용은 가시적 효용감이 정신적 웰빙에 미치는 영향에 완전매개역할을 하였다. 그러나 정서적 효용감이 자기수용에 유의한 영향을 주지 않았고, 자기수용의 매개효과가 존재하지 않았다. 후원 후 삶에 대한 감사 증가여부에 의한 조절효과가 실증적으로 규명되었고, 기부 후 삶에 대한 감사가 증가한 경우, 그렇지 않은 경우보다, 정신적 웰빙은 물론, 자기수용, 정서적, 가시적 효용감 수준이 유의하게 높은 것으로 밝혀져, 기부활동을 통한 정신적 웰빙의 향상을 도모하기 위해서, 감사성향을 강화시키는 것이 중요한 실천과제임을 제시하면서, 실천적 함의를 논의하였다.

간호대학생의 학습참여, 감성지능, 학업탄력성과의 관계 : 자기조절의 조절된 매개효과 (The Relationship among Learning Engagement, Emotional Intelligence, and Academic Resilicence of Nursing Students : The Moderated Mediating Effect of Self Regulation)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 간호대학생의 학습참여와 학업탄력성과의 관계에서 감성지능의 매개효과를 확인하고, 학습참여와 감성지능의 관계에서 자기조절이 조절하는지를 검증하기 위함이다. 이를 위해 J지역 3개교 간호대학생 277명을 대상으로 하였으며, 각 변인들 간의 관계는 회귀분석과 부트스트래핑으로 분석하였다. 연구결과, 첫째, 간호대학생의 학습참여, 감성지능, 학업탄력성 그리고 자기조절 간의 인과모형의 적합도가 양호한 것으로 나타나, 변인 간의 인과관계를 타당하게 예측하였다. 둘째, 간호대학생의 학습참여가 학업탄력성에 영향을 미치는 경로에서 감성지능의 부분 매개효과를 확인하였다. 셋째, 간호대학생의 학습참여가 감성지능에 미치는 영향에서 자기조절은 조절효과를 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 끝으로, 본 연구의 의의는 간호대학생의 학업탄력성에 영향을 줄 수 있는 다양한 변인들의 영향관계를 검증하였다는 것과 학업탄력성을 증진시키기 위해서는 대상자들의 학업참여, 감성지능과 자기조절도 함께 고려한 전략이 필요하다는 것이다.

보육교사의 정서지능이 교사-영유아 상호작용에 미치는 영향에서 원장 감성리더십의 매개효과 (The Mediating Effect of Emotional Leadership of Daycare Center Directors on the Relation between Childcare Teachers' Emotional Intelligence and Teacher-Infant Interaction)

  • 본 연구는 보육교사의 정서지능과 보육교사-영유아 상호작용의 관계에서 보육교사가 지각한 원장 감성리더십이 매개 변인으로 작용하는지를 알아보기 위해 수행되었다. 이를 위해 보육교사 293명을 대상으로 설문 조사를 하였고, 자료처리는 SPSS 21.0 프로그램을 이용하여 Pearson의 적률상관계수 산출과 위계적 회귀분석을 하였으며, Sobel-test 및 Baron과 Kenny의 모형에 따라 매개 효과를 검증하였다. 연구결과는 첫째, 보육교사의 정서지능, 교사-영유아 상호 작용, 원장 감성리더십 간에는 유의한 정적 상관이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 교사-영유아 상호작용에 대한 보육교사의 정서지능과 원장 감성리더십의 상대적 설명력에서 보육교사의 정서지능이 원장의 감성리더십 보다 상대적으로 더 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 보육교사의 정서지능이 교사-영유아 상호작용에 미치는 영향에서 원장의 감성리더십은 부분적으로 매개 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이 같은 결과는 보육의 질적 제고를 위한 기초자료를 제공했다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

감정부조화와 서비스제공수준 간의 관계에서 고객지향성의 매개효과에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effects of Customer Orientation on Emotional Dissonance and Service Delivery Level)

  • The purpose of this study were to examine the effects of emotional dissonance on customer orientation and service delivery level, and to examine the mediating effects of the customer orientation. In order to verify the relationships and mediating effect, data were obtained from 199 nurses working in a general hospital in Changwon City were analyzed by using SPSS 12.0. and AMOS 5.0. The findings are as follows: Firstly, there was a negative relationship between emotional dissonance and customer orientation. Secondly, there was also a positive relationship between customer orientation and service delivery level. Thirdly, there was also a negative relationship between emotional dissonance and service delivery level. Finally, the customer orientation was a partial mediating effect on the relationship between emotional dissonance and service delivery level. Based on these findings, the implications and the limitations of the study were presented including some directions for future studies.

부인의 정서적 지지와 남편의 결혼만족도 (Wife's Emotional Support and Husband's Marital Satisfaction)

  • In an effort to better understand the relationship between husband and wife in the family, this study investigated wife's emotional support and husband's marital satisfaction. Subjects were 232 husbands in Seoul. Results indicated that the level of wife's emotional support to their husbands and husband's marital satisfaction were generally high. And wife's emotional support to their husbands had the strongest positive effect on husband's marital satisfaction. In addition, husband's income and wife's employment were negatively related to husband's marital satisfaction. It was suggested the importance of the emotional support to their husbands had the strongest positive effect on husband's marital satisfaction. In addition, husband's income and wife's employment were negatively related to husband's marital satisfaction. It was suggested the importance of the emotional support in the spousal relationships.

조직문화와 정서노동과의 관계: 사회적 지지의 매개효과 (The Relationship between Organizational Culture and Emotional Labor: The Mediating Effect of Social Support)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between organizational culture(constructive and defensive culture) and emotional labor along with the social supports (supervisor support, colleague support). Using data obtained from a survey of 419 flight attendants of a major airline company in south Korea. The results are as follows: Organizational culture had a significant effect on emotional labor. At this point, colleague support mediated the relationship between constructive culture and emotional labor. In addition, supervisor support and colleague support had a mediating role between defensive culture and emotional labor. This result concludes that flight attendants positively accept the essential manuals and safety regulations in the special working condition with a unified team service. Furthermore, the results show that social supports are an important job resource for flight attendants helping them reach their work-related goals.

  • This study testifies the proposition that in the case of high emotional organizational commitment, through employees perform surface acting, they feel high personal accomplishment. Data was collected from 158 flight attendants of two airlines in Korea. From the hierarchical regression analysis, we could conclude such as follows. First, emotional organizational commitment has a positive effect on surface acting. It means that because employees with high emotional organizational commitment accept organizational goals as theirs, they are willing to perform surface acting. Second, surface acting has a positive effect on personal accomplishment. It means that surface acting has a "positive" side as well as negative one. Third, according to above results, organizations should try to take measures to increase the emotional organizational commitment of flight attendants.

시치료 프로그램이 중학생의 정서지능에 미치는 효과 (Effect of Poetrytherapy Program on Emotional Intelligence of Middle School Students)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop poetrytherapy program and to test it's effect on emotional intelligence of middle school students. Sixty-six(male 33, female 33) middle school students participated in this study. Thirty-three students were assigned to experimental group and control group respectively. The program which is composed of 14 sessions was applied to experimental group for 16 weeks. Subjects completed Emotional Intelligence Test. Collected data were analyzed using t-test and ANCOVA. The results of statistical analyses showed that there were statistically significant differences in emotional intelligence test scores between experimental group and control group. Based upon these results, it is concluded that poetrytherapy program was effective in improving emotional intelligence of middle school students.

  • This study examined the effects of mother's facilitative communication and child's emotional intelligence on social competence. Subjects were 474 students in the $5^{th}$ and $6^{th}$ grades of two elementary schools located in Seoul. Data were analyzed by the SAS statistics program. Findings were that mother's facilitative communication has an effect on child's social competence and on emotional intelligence. Higher perception of child's own emotional ability was associated with higher sociability, social participation and leadership. Increased perception of the emotional ability of others was associated with higher sociability, interpersonal adjustment, social participation, leadership, and popularity.
