서비스 로봇을 위한 감성인터페이스 기술 (Emotional Interface Technologies for Service Robot)

  • The emotional interface is essential technology for the robot to provide the proper service to the user. In this research, we developed emotional components for the service robot such as a neural network based facial expression recognizer, emotion expression technologies based on 3D graphical face expression and joints movements, considering a user's reaction, behavior selection technology for emotion expression. We used our humanoid robots, AMI and AMIET as the test-beds of our emotional interface. We researched on the emotional interaction between a service robot and a user by integrating the developed technologies. Emotional interface technology for the service robot, enhance the performance of friendly interaction to the service robot, to increase the diversity of the service and the value-added of the robot for human. and it elevates the market growth and also contribute to the popularization of the robot. The emotional interface technology can enhance the performance of friendly interaction of the service robot.   • This paper deals with the emotional model of the software-robot. The software-robot requires several capabilities such as sensing, perceiving, acting, communicating, and surviving. and so on. There are already many studies about the emotional model like KISMET and AIBO. The new emotional model using the modified friendship scheme is proposed in this paper. Quite often, the available emotional models have time invariant human respond architectures. Conventional emotional models make the sociable robot get around with humans, and obey human commands during robot operation. This behavior makes the robot very different from real pets. Similar to real pets, the proposed emotional model with the modified friendship capability has time varying property depending on interaction between human and robot.

  • Emotion is getting one of the important elements of the intelligent service robots. Emotional communication can make more comfortable relation between humans and robots. We developed emotional head robot system using 3D character. We designed emotional engine for making emotion of the robot. The results of face recognition and hand recognition is used for the input data of emotional engine. 3D character expresses nine emotions and speaks about own emotional status. The head robot has memory of a degree of attraction. It can be chaIU!ed by input data. We tested the head robot and conform its functions.

  • This paper introduces a design of multi-dimensional complex emotional model for various complex emotional expression. It is a novel approach to design an emotional model by comparison with conventional emotional model which used a three-dimensional emotional space with some problems; the discontinuity of emotions, the simple emotional expression, and the necessity of re-designing the emotional model for each robot. To solve these problems, we have designed an emotional model. It uses a multi-dimensional emotional space for the continuity of emotion. A linear model design is used for reusability of the emotional model. It has the personality for various emotional results although it gets same inputs. To demonstrate the effectiveness of our model, we have tested with a human friendly robot.

  • 최근 핵가족화, 개인화 등과 같은 사회구조 변화로 개인 및 사회적 문제가 대두되고 있으며, 부정적 감정 증폭으로 인해 다양한 문제의 원인이 되기도 한다. 과거에 심리적 안정감을 주는 가족 구성원의 부재는 현대인의 감정적 어려움의 대표적인 원인으로 꼽을 수 있다. 이러한 개인 및 사회적 문제를 일상생활에서 사용자와 교감하는 컴패니언 로봇의 공감 인터랙션을 통해 해결하고자 한다. 본 연구에서는 감성 로봇 프로토타입 제작을 통해 정교한 공감 인터랙션 디자인을 하였으며, 실험을 통해 연구를 진행하였다. 그 결과로 감성 로봇의 공감 인터랙션에 얼굴 인터랙션이 크게 영향을 미치며, 부정 감성에서 인터랙션이 로봇의 공감도를 높이는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 결과적으로 본 연구는 감성 로봇을 제작하여 더욱 정교한 인터랙션을 구현하였다는 점과, 실험 결과를 바탕으로 로봇의 공감 인터랙션 디자인 가이드라인을 제시하였다는 점에서 이론적 및 실용적 의의가 있다.

  • In the near future, robots will be used for the personal use. To provide useful services to humans, it will be necessary for robots to understand human intentions. Consequently, the development of emotional interfaces for robots is an important expansion of human-robot interactions. We designed and developed an intelligent emotional interface for the robot, and applied the interfaces to our humanoid robot, AMIET.   • Nowadays, many robots have evolved to imitate human social skills such that sociable interaction with humans is possible. Socially interactive robots require abilities different from that of conventional robots. For instance, human-robot interactions are accompanied by emotion similar to human-human interactions. Robot emotional expression is thus very important for humans. This is particularly true for facial expressions, which play an important role in communication amongst other non-verbal forms. In this paper, we introduce a method of creating lifelike facial expressions in robots using variation of affect values which consist of the robot's emotions based on emotional boundaries. The proposed method was examined by experiments of two facial robot simulators.

Cognitive and Emotional Structure of a Robotic Game Player in Turn-based Interaction

  • This paper focuses on how cognitive and emotional structures affect humans during long-term interaction. We design an interaction with a turn-based game, the Chopstick Game, in which two agents play with numbers using their fingers. While a human and a robot agent alternate turn, the human user applies herself to play the game and to learn new winning skills from the robot agent. Conventional valence and arousal space is applied to design emotional interaction. For the robotic system, we implement finger gesture recognition and emotional behaviors that are designed for three-dimensional virtual robot. In the experimental tests, the properness of the proposed schemes is verified and the effect of the emotional interaction is discussed.

  • This paper introduces an emotional behavior decision model based on linear system for intelligent service robots. An emotional model should make different behavior decisions according to the purpose of the robots. We propose an emotional behavior decision model which can change the character of intelligent service robots and make different behavior decisions although the situation and environment remain the same. We defined each emotional element such as reactive dynamics, internal dynamics, emotional dynamics, and behavior dynamics by state dynamic equations. The proposed system model is a linear dynamic system. If you want to add one external stimulus or behavior, you need to add just one dimensional vector to the matrix of external stimulus or behavior dynamics. The case of removing is same. The change of reactive dynamics, internal dynamics, emotional dynamics, and behavior dynamics also follows the same procedure. We implemented a cyber robot and an emotional head robot using 3D character for verifying the performance of the proposed emotional behavior decision model.
