Effects of an emotional regulation program on maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation, stress, anxiety, and postpartum depression among South Korean mothers of premature infants in the neonatal intensive care unit

  • Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of a rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT)-based emotional regulation program for mothers of premature infants in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Methods: The study utilized a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. Seventeen mothers were recruited for the experimental group and 21 mothers for the control group. Data were collected from July 9, 2018, to Oct 12, 2018 from mothers of premature infants in the NICU regarding parental stress, state anxiety, depression, and maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation. The experimental group received eight sessions of the REBT-based emotional regulation program for 3~4 weeks, and the control group only received standard nursing care. Results: Significant differences were found between the two groups in maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation (Z=-3.88, p<.001), stress (Z=-2.76, p=.006), state anxiety (Z=-3.72, p<.001), and postpartum depression(Z=-2.62, p=.009) after the intervention in the experimental group. Conclusion: The REBT-based emotional regulation program for mothers of premature infants was effective for reducing maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation, stress, anxiety, and postpartum depression. Therefore, it may be necessary to provide an REBT-based emotional regulation program for mothers of premature infants in the NICU in clinical practice.

  • Emotion Recognition is one of the important part to develop in human-human and human computer interaction. In this paper, we have focused on the performance of multi-class SVM (Support Vector Machine) with Gaussian RFB (Radial Basis function) kernel, which has been used to solve the problem of emotion recognition from physiological signals and to improve the accuracy of emotion recognition. The experimental paradigm for data acquisition, visual-stimuli of IAPS (International Affective Picture System) are used to induce emotional states, such as fear, disgust, joy, and neutral for each subject. The raw signals of acquisited data are splitted in the trial from each session to pre-process the data. The mean value and standard deviation are employed to extract the data for feature extraction and preparing in the next step of classification. The experimental results are proving that the proposed approach of multi-class SVM with Gaussian RBF kernel with OVO (One-Versus-One) method provided the successful performance, accuracies of classification, which has been performed over these four emotions.

아동의 정서조절능력과 부모변인 및 또래에 의한 괴롭힘이 행동문제에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Emotion Regulation, Parent Related Variables and Victimization by Peer Harassment on Behavioral Problems among Children)

  • This study examined emotion regulation, parental support, supervision, psychological control and marital conflict and victimization by peer harassment that affect children’s behavioral problems. The sample consisted of 412 fifth and sixth grade children. Statistics and methods used for the data analysis were percentage, frequency, Cronbach’s alpha, Factor analysis, t-test, Pearson’s correlation, and multiple Regression. Several major results were found from the analysis. First, girls had more internalized behavioral problems than boys. No sex difference was found in externalized behavioral problems. Second, boys’ and girls’ internalized and externalized behavioral problems showed positive correlations with maladaptive emotion regulation and parental psychological control. Boys’ and girls’ internalized behavioral problems and girls’ externalized behavioral problems showed negative correlations with parental support, but positive correlations with parentral marital conflict and victimization by peer harassment. Girls’ internalized and externalized behavioral problems showed negative correlations with parental supervision. Third, maladaptive emotion regulation was the most important variable predicting boys’ and girls’ externalized behavioral problems and girls’ internalized behavioral problems. Victimization by peer harassment was the most important variable predicting boys’ internalized behavioral problems.

정서재활 바이오피드백을 위한 얼굴 영상 기반 정서인식 연구 (Study of Emotion Recognition based on Facial Image for Emotional Rehabilitation Biofeedback)

  • If we want to recognize the human's emotion via the facial image, first of all, we need to extract the emotional features from the facial image by using a feature extraction algorithm. And we need to classify the emotional status by using pattern classification method. The AAM (Active Appearance Model) is a well-known method that can represent a non-rigid object, such as face, facial expression. The Bayesian Network is a probability based classifier that can represent the probabilistic relationships between a set of facial features. In this paper, our approach to facial feature extraction lies in the proposed feature extraction method based on combining AAM with FACS (Facial Action Coding System) for automatically modeling and extracting the facial emotional features. To recognize the facial emotion, we use the DBNs (Dynamic Bayesian Networks) for modeling and understanding the temporal phases of facial expressions in image sequences. The result of emotion recognition can be used to rehabilitate based on biofeedback for emotional disabled.

Comparing Ruminative and Distracting Responses and Emotion Regulation Difficulties in Early Community Adolescents With and Without Self-Harm

  • Objectives: This study aimed to compare the demographic characteristics, responses to negative emotions, and difficulties in emotion regulation between self-harming adolescents and control individuals aged 12-14 years from the community. Methods: Data were collected from adolescents in Chungcheong Province, South Korea, between September 2021 and November 2022. Demographic characteristics and responses to the Depressed Mood Questionnaire and Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale-16 (DERS-16) were compared between the self-harm and control groups. Results: The self-harm group exhibited a higher prevalence of child abuse (odds ratio [OR]=4.787, 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.591-14.409, p=0.005) and school bullying victimization (OR=4.495, 95% CI=2.353-8.588, p<0.001) than those in the control group. The self-harm group displayed higher levels of rumination (t=7.88, p<0.001) and reduced distraction responses (reverse score t=2.25, p=0.025) than those of the control group. Additionally, the self-harm group scored higher on all subscales and the total DERS-16 score (t=7.61, p<0.001). Conclusion: Interventions for self-harming adolescents should address child abuse and bullying victimization. Prevention programs for self-harming adolescents should focus on reducing rumination responses, increasing distractive responses, and addressing difficulties in emotion regulation using dialectical behavior therapy-skill training.

인지융합과 집중력 간의 관계: 정서조절과 사고조절력의 매개효과를 중심으로 (Relationship of Avoid Fusion and concentration : Focused on mediative effects of emotion control and thinking control)

  • 본 연구는 인지융합과 집중력 사이에 작용하는 매개변인을 찾아봄으로써 학습상황에서 적응적인 집중능력에 요구되는 요소를 이해하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 인지융합과 집중력과의 관계에서 정서조절과 사고조절의 매개효과에 초점을 두고 구조모형을 분석하였다. 참여자는 경기 S소재 2개 고등학교의 남녀 고등학생을 314명을 대상으로 하였다. 이들은 가설적 모형에 포함된 변수인, 인지융합, 자기조절력, 집중력, 학습태도를 측정하는 설문에 응답하였다. 가설적 모형의 분석결과 경로모형은 전반적으로 권장 수준 이상의 모형 적합도를 보이고 수용 가능한 설명력을 보였다. 설정된 9개의 경로 중 8개의 경로가 통계적으로 유의하게 나타났다. 지지된 8개의 경로는 인지융합에서는 집중력과 사고조절, 사고조절에서는 정서조절과 집중력 그리고 학습태도, 정서조절에서는 집중력과 학습태도, 집중력에서는 학습태도였다. 지지되지 못한 경로는 인지융합에서 정서조절이었다. 매개효과 분석에서는, 인지융합이 집중력에 직접적 영향을 미치지만, 사고조절을 통해 집중력에 영향을 미치거나 사고조절이 정서를 조절함으로써 집중력에 영향을 미친다는 것을 보여준다. 끝으로 본 연구의 의의. 시사점 및 제한점이 논의 되었다.

분노표현과 대인관계문제에서 정서조절곤란의 매개효과 (The Mediating Effects of Difficulties in Emotion Regulation between Anger Expression and Interpersonal Problems of College Students)

  • 본 연구는 대학생의 분노표현, 대인관계문제의 관계를 파악한 후 매개효과로써 정서조절곤란에 대한 영향력을 확인하여 대인관계문제를 호소하는 대학생들을 이해하고 그들의 문제를 해결할 수 있는 프로그램 개발의 기초 자료를 제공하고자 실시되었다. 연구결과, 분노표현은 대인관계문제, 정서조절곤란에서 정적상관관계를 보였고, 대인관계문제는 정서조절곤란과 다소 높은 정적상관관계를 보였다. 또한, 대학생의 분노표현과 대인관계문제에서 정서조절곤란이 부분 매개하는 것을 확인하였다. 결론적으로 대학생들의 정서조절 곤란을 감소시키고 긍정적으로 분노표현을 하도록 이끄는 교육 프로그램 개발과 대인관계를 향상시킬 수 있는 중재 프로그램을 개발하는 것이 향후 연구에 필요함을 알 수 있었다.

디스플레이 장치의 인간 친화적인 지능형 색체 조절 시스템 (Human-Friendly Intelligent Hue Control System for Display Unit)

  • 인간의 시각은 다른 감각에 비해 인지 범위가 가장 넓다. 만약 인간에게 더 나은 시각 환경을 조성해 준다면 이를 받아들이는 사람의 감정이나 신체에 더 유익한 일이 될 것이다. 현대 사회에서 인간은 많은 디스플레이 장치를 이용하고 있다. 디스플레이 장치의 기본 색은 Red, Green, Blue이고, 이 3가지 색을 이용하여 디스플레이 장치의 색체나 밝기 정도를 변경할 수 있다. 만약 개인의 환경에 적합하도록 색체를 조절한다면 우리는 스트레스를 줄이거나 편안한 느낌을 가질 것이다. 본 논문에서는 인간의 감정과 환경에 관련된 퍼지화 요소들을 이용하여 디스플레이 장치의 색체를 조절할 수 있는 인간친화적인 지능형 색체 조절 시스템을 제안한다. 제안한 시스템의 효율성은 설문조사를 이용하여 검증하였다.

Effects of the healing movie programs on post-traumatic stress syndrome, resilience, and cognitive emotional control strategies of Korean cancer survivors: a non-equivalent control group pretest- posttest design

  • Purpose: This study examined the effects of the healing movie programs for cancer survivors on post-traumatic stress syndrome, resilience, and cognitive emotional control strategies, a quasi-experimental design. Methods: Participants included 39 cancer survivors registered in four healthcare centers in Gyeongsangnam-do. The intervention and control group included 19 and 20 participants, respectively. The healing program using movies developed in this study was provided to the intervention group in 10 sessions, occurring twice each week for 5 weeks and lasting 80 minutes per session. The data were collected using structured questionnaires and they were analyzed to examine differences in the test scores before and after the intervention. Results: In the intervention group, the post-traumatic stress syndrome (F = 14.97, p < . 001) decreased significantly and the resilience (F = 19.55, p < .001) and adaptive cognitive emotion regulation (F = 5.11, p = .029) increased significantly. The difference between the intervention and control group was statistically significant in post-traumatic stress syndrome, resilience, and adaptive cognitive emotion regulation. Thus, the healing program of this study significantly reduced post-traumatic stress, and it improved both resilience and adaptive cognitive emotion regulation of cancer cancer survivors. Conclusion: The healing program is an effective psychosocial nursing intervention that helps cancer survivors feel better about their illness, and it helps them healthy transition from negative emotions to increased resilience and positive cognitive emotions.

  • Intelligence is thought to be related to interaction rather than a deep but passive thinking. Interactive tangible media "iT_Media" is proposed to explore these issues. Personal robotics is a major area to investigate these ideas. A new design methodology for personal and emotional robotics is proposed. Sciences of the artificial and intelligence have been investigated. A short history of artificial intelligence is presented in terms of logic, heuristic, and mobility; a science of intelligence is presented in terms of imitation and understanding; intelligence issues for robotics and intelligence measures are described. A design methodology for personal robots based on science of emotion is investigated. We investigate three different aspects of design: visceral, behavioral, reflective. We also discuss affect and emotion in robots, robots that sense emotion, robots that induce emotion in people, and implications and ethical issues of emotional robots. Personal robotics for the elderly seems to be a major area in which to explore these ideas.
