Purpose: Given the emergence of a new profession called a palliative care aide, this study aims to develop the scope of its practice using the Delphi consensus method. Methods: This study was participated by a panel of experts comprising 36 members who were involved in either hospice palliative care practice or making relevant policies. Through a four-step Delphi study, the feasibility of the duty, task and task element was examined. Among the results, items that scored over 4.0 out of 5.0 were selected. Results: The analysis of the Delphi study suggested four job duties, 15 tasks and 46 task elements to be included in the practice scope for palliative care aides. Conclusion: This study defined the scope of practice for palliative care aides, which is expected to prevent any conflict or confusion regarding their job and to promote the quality of their service.
The dynamic performance of air foil bearings relies on a coupling between a thin air film and an elastic foil structure. A number of successful analytical techniques to predict dynamic performance have been developed. However, the evaluation of its dynamic characteristic is still not enough because of the mechanical complexity of the foil structure and strong nonlinear behavior of friction force. This work presents a nonlinear transient analysis method to predict dynamic performance of foil bearings. In this method, time dependent Reynolds equation is used to calculate pressure distribution and a finite element method is used to model the bump foil structure. The analysis is treated with a direct implicit integration technique that can handle nonlinear problems and the stick-slip algorithm is used to consider friction force. Using this method the response to the mass unbalance excitation is investigated for various design parameters and operating conditions. The results of analysis show that foil bearing is very effective on the restriction of vibration at the resonance frequency compared to the rigid surface bearings and the effectiveness depends on the operating conditions, static load and a amount of mass unbalance. In addition, there exist optimum values of friction coefficient, bump foil stiffness and number of circumferential slit with regards to minimizing dynamic response at the resonance frequency. These optimum values are system dependent.
Recently, there is a need to produce a large forged part for the flight, shipping, some energies, and military industries, etc. Therefore, an open die forging technique of cast ingots is required to obtain higher quality of large size forged parts. Cogging process is one of the primary stages in many open die forging processes. In the cogging process prior to some open die forging processes, internal cavities have to be eliminated for defect-free. The present work is concerned with the elimination of the internal cavities in large ingots so as to obtain sound products. In this study, hot compression tests were carried out to obtain the flow stress of cast microstructure at different temperature and strain rates. The FEM analysis is performed to investigate the overlap defect of cast ingots during cogging stage. The measured flow stress data were used to simulate the cogging process of cast ingot using the practical material properties. Also the analysis of cavity closure is performed by using the $DEFORM^{TM}-3D$. The calculated results of cavity closure behavior are compared with the measured results before and after cogging, which are scanned by the X-ray scanner. From this result, the criteria for deformation amounts effect on the cavity closure can be investigated by the comparison between practical experiment and numerical analysis.

Recently, to resolve problems regarding legal liability for accidents and disasters, various simulation techniques such as F.E.M. and F.V.M. have been used in the field of forensic engineering. In this study, we performed mechanical structure analysis using ADINA to investigate the cause of bridge collapse accidents. Such accidents occurred owing to modified and missing processes in comparison with the original design while filling with concrete. Modified and missing processes cause buckling of the upper plate and twisting of the main girder. Through this study, we determine the exact cause of bridge collapse by comparing the evaluation of the structure stability of the original design with the evaluation of the structure stability of the modified and missing process using ADINA structure analysis. Hence, this result indicates that buckling prediction through FEA is the most effective method.

System identification is the field of modeling dynamic systems from experimental data. As a modeling technique, we can mention finite element method (FEM). In addition, we are able to measure modal data as the experimental data. The system can be generally categorized into a gray box and black box. In the gray box, we know mathematical model of a system, but we don't know structural parameters exactly, so we need to estimate structural parameters. In the black box, we don't know a system completely, so we need to identify system from nothing. To date, various system identification methods have been developed. Among them, we introduce system realization theory which uses Hankel matrix and Eigensystem Realization Algorithm (ERA) that enable us to identify modal parameters from noisy measurement data. Although we obtain noise-free data, however, we are likely to face difficulties in identifying a structure with hidden modes. Hidden modes can be occurred when the input or output position comes to a nodal point. If we change a system using a mode decoupling controller, the hidden modes can be revealed. Because we know the perturbation quantities in a closed loop system with the controller, we can realize an original system by subtracting perturbation quantities from the closed loop system. In this paper, we propose a novel method to identify a structure with hidden modes using the mode decoupling controller and the associated example is given for illustration.
Increased internet use under a ubiquitous environment may be called as a great human information space revolution followed by Industrial Revolution. This revolution is exerting its significant influence over all the industry as a whole with speed faster than that of any other times. Along with this trend, if furniture design field that leads living culture should fail to jump on this main stream without noticing it, it may be reduced to a unpopular field some day without any sign of recovery. Under this background, this study is intended to recognize a goal aiming at understanding our rapidly changing living environment and leading our way positively. Currently, our surrounding living environment is immersed in computers here and there and Mark Weiser once defined a system that moves in advance before an action as ubiquitous computing and in this respect, I am going to observe a detailed transformation process of space. First nature of the space may be defined as atoms, a physical space equivalent to a spatial element and Bits space that is untouchable is usually called as 2nd space and a combination of atoms and Bits is an intelligent space - 3rd space - that can be intelligible without touching it and finally, this space is called as a ubiquitous space. This spatial transformation is developed by several changes of living environment and we may call it as living trend or interior design trend. Transformation in terms of social perspective, space structural perspective and digital technique perspective may be enumerated. These transformations were surveyed based on its contents being implemented at a future housing exhibition hosted by 5 construction companies along with fusion of information furniture and furniture depending on each housing space. In conclusion, it could be realized that most of the companies were decorating future space by implementing ubiquitous environment as a success factor of future housing market. It may be meaningful to note once again that under an interior environment, a fusion of furniture and information furniture is required considering interior trend elements.

Cr-Ti-B-N coatings were synthesized by a hybrid coating system combining high power impulse magnetron sputtering (HIPIMS) and DC pulse magnetron sputtering from a $TiB_2$ and a Cr target in argon-nitrogen environment, respectively. By changing the power applied on the Cr and $TiB_2$ cathodes, the Cr-Ti-B-N coatings with various Ti/Cr ratio and B content were deposited. The phase structure, microstructure and chemical compositions of the Cr-Ti-B-N coatings were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission scanning electron microscopy (TEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). With increase of Cr element in the coatings, the nanocomposite microstructure consisting of nano-sized (Cr, Ti) N crystallites and amorphous BN phase were obtained in the coatings. The microhardness of the Cr-Ti-B-N coatings exhibited a peak value of ~41 GPa for the $CrTi_{0.1}B_{0.4}N_{1.3}$, and then decreased with further increase of Cr content in the coatings, and all the coatings exhibited low friction coefficient. The oxidation and corrosion behavior of the Cr-Ti-B-N coatings revealed better properties due to the formation of a nanocomposite microstructure.
When using a computer vision system for a measurement, the geometrically distorted input image usually restricts the site and size of the measuring window. A geometrically distorted image caused by the image sensing and processing hardware degrades the accuracy of the visual measurement and prohibits the arbitrary selection of the measuring scope. Therefore, an image calibration is inevitable to improve the measuring accuracy. A calibration process is usually done via four steps such as measurement, modeling, parameter estimation, and compensation. In this paper, the efficient error calibration technique of a geometrically distorted input image was developed using a neural network. After calibrating a unit pixel, the distorted image was compensated by training CMLAN(Cerebellar Model Linear Associator Network) without modeling the behavior of any system element. The input/output training pairs for the network was obtained by processing the image of the devised sampled pattern. The generalization property of the network successfully compensates the distortion errors of the untrained arbitrary pixel points on the image space. The error convergence of the trained network with respect to the network control parameters were also presented. The compensated image through the network was then post processed using a simple DDA(Digital Differential Analyzer) to avoid the pixel disconnectivity. The compensation effect was verified using known sized geometric primitives. A way to extract directly a real scaled geometric quantity of the object from the 8-directional chain coding was also devised and coded. Since the developed calibration algorithm does not require any knowledge of modeling system elements and estimating parameters, it can be applied simply to any image processing system. Furthermore, it efficiently enhances the measurement accuracy and allows the arbitrary sizing and locating of the measuring window. The applied and developed algorithms were coded as a menu driven way using MS-C language Ver. 6.0, PC VISION PLUS library functions, and VGA graphic functions.

Respiratory air flow rate is necessarily measured for the pulmonary function evaluation. The currently used devices are exposed to the problems of measurement reliability and cross-patient infection. The present study introduced a new technique which converted the bidirectional air flow rate into averaged dynamic pressure based on the famous Bernoulli's energy conservation principle. Single use plastic sensing element was assembled within the flow tube(mouth piece) made of paper, which was named "functional single use flow tube". Experiment demonstrated only ${\pm}1.5%$ relative error in the standard 3L volume measurement procedure well within the error limit suggested by the American Thoracic Society(ATS). Disposable use design completely eliminated cross-patient infection. The present device is best useful and safe for clinical respiratory air flow measurement such as spirometry.
The sensitive technique of activation analysis is well suited for this study since the elements such as As, Br, and Se in tobaccoes are expected to be high concentration. As, Br, and Hg were determined by Bethge destruction method and subsequent neutron activation analysis. $^{77m}Se$ was also by non-destruction activation analysis. The quantities of the element determined in Korean tobaccoes are given as follows in ppm: As, 0.65 ppm. Hg, 0.74 ppm. Se, 1.18 ppm. Br, 7.1 ppm. From the date given it seems that Korean tobaccoes and foreign tobaccoes contained considerably high concentration of selenium and mercury.
