In this paper crack propagation analyses in the dissimilar metal weldment of a nozzle were performed using a finite element alternating method (FEAM). A two-dimensional axisymmetric finite element nozzle model was prepared and welding simulation including the thermal heat transfer analysis and the thermal stress analysis was performed. Initial cracks were inserted at weld and heat affected zone in the finite element model which has welding residual stress distribution obtained from the welding simulation. To calculate crack propagation trajectories of these cracks, a new fatigue crack evaluation module was developed in addition to the previous FEAM program. With the new FEAM fatigue crack evaluation module, crack propagation trajectory and crack growth time were calculated automatically and effectively.

In this paper. we deal wish the I-t characteristic of law voltage distribution fuse. It is used to be thermal characteristic in being produced at fuse element part. The elements are divided low temperature melting element(LTME) by high temperature melting element(HTME). Those parts make of coordination. The characteristic of fuse is decided by material and design etc. used at element. We analysis I-t characteristic curve by using the numerical method. And we compared the curve of simulation with that of experiment

FRANC3D is a program for simulating arbitrary three-dimensional crack growth. Recently, a completely new version of the program, FRANC3D/NG, has been created. Unlike previous versions, which relied largely on boundary element analysis, the new version of the program works with finite element analysis exclusively and is designed to work with general-purpose commercial finite element packages. This paper presents the theoretical underpinnings of the procedures to adaptively modify the geometry and mesh of a model to simulate crack growth.

In this research, the aeroelastic instability of a tail section manufactured from aluminum isotropic material with different shell thickness investigated. For this purpose, the two degrees of freedom flutter analytical approach are used, which is accompanied with simulation by finite element analysis. Using finite element analysis, the geometry parameters such as the center of mass, the aerodynamic center and the shear center are determined. Also, by simulation of finite element method, the bending and torsional stiffnesses for various thickness of the airfoil section are determined. Furthermore, using Lagrange's methods the equations of motion are derived and modal frequency and critical torsional/bending modes are discussed. The results show that with increasing the thickness of the isotropic airfoil section, the flutter and divergence speeds increased. Compared of the obtained results with other research, indicates a good agreement and reliability of this method.

This paper proposes a multiscale process-structural analysis methodology and applies to a battery housing part made of the short fiber-reinforced and fabric-reinforced composite layers. In particular, uncertainties of the material properties within the microscale representative volume element (RVE) were considered. The random spatial distribution of matrix properties in the microscale RVE was realized by the Karhunen-Loeve Expansion (KLE) method. Then, effective properties of the RVE reflecting on spatially varying matrix properties were obtained by the computational homogenization and mapped to a macroscale FE (finite element) model. Morever, through the hybrid process simulation, a FE (finite element) model mapping residual stress and fiber orientation from compression molding simulation is combined with one mapping fiber orientation from the draping process simulation. The proposed method is expected to rigorously evaluate the design requirements of the battery housing part and composite materials having various material configurations.
Since the beginning of the 90 s, depending on the growth of the industrial sector in Turkey, factory constructions have been increased. The cost of precast concrete buildings is lower than the steel ones for this reason the precast structural systems are used more. Precast concrete structural elements are mostly as strong as not to have damage in the earthquake but weakness of connections between elements causes unexpected damages of structure during earthquake. When looking at the previous researches, it can be seen that there is a lack of studies about socket type base connections although there were many experimental and analytical studies about the connections of precast structural elements. The aim of this study is to investigate the stress transfer mechanism between column and the socket base wall with finite element method. For the finite element analysis ANSYS software was used. A finite element model was created which is the simulation of experimental research executed by Canha et al. (2009) under vertical and horizontal forces. Results of experimental research and finite element analysis were compared to create a successful simulation of experimental program. After determining the acceptable parameters, models of socket bases were created. Model dimensions were chosen according to square section column sizes 400, 450, 500, 550 and 600 mm which were mostly used in industrial buildings. As a result of this study, stress distribution at center section of the socket base models were observed and it is found that stress distribution affects triangular at the half of socket bottom and top.

A recently published nuclear forensics methodology for source discrimination of separated weapons-grade plutonium utilizes intra-element isotope ratios and a maximum likelihood formulation to identify the most likely source reactor-type, fuel burnup and time since irradiation of unknown material. Sensitivity studies performed here on the effects of random measurement error and the uncertainty in intra-element isotope ratio values show that different intra-element isotope ratios have disproportionate contributions to the determination of the reactor parameters. The methodology is robust to individual errors in measured intra-element isotope ratio values and even more so for uniform systematic errors due to competing effects on the predictions from the selected intra-element isotope ratios suite. For a unique sample-model pair, simulation uncertainties of up to 28% are acceptable without impeding successful source-reactor discrimination. However, for a generic sample with multiple plausible sources within the reactor library, uncertainties of 7% or less may be required. The results confirm the critical role of accurate reactor core physics, fuel burnup simulations and experimental measurements in the proposed methodology where increased simulation uncertainty is found to significantly affect the capability to discriminate between the reactors in the library.

An experimental validation of a nuclear forensics methodology for the source reactor-type discrimination of separated weapons-useable plutonium is presented. The methodology uses measured values of intra-element isotope ratios of plutonium and fission product contaminants. MCNP radiation transport codes were used for various reactor core modeling and fuel burnup simulations. A reactor-dependent library of intra-element isotope ratio values as a function of burnup and time since irradiation was created from the simulation results. The experimental validation of the methodology was achieved by performing two low-burnup experimental irradiations, resulting in distinct fuel samples containing sub-milligram quantities of weapons-useable plutonium. The irradiated samples were subjected to gamma and mass spectrometry to measure several intra-element isotope ratios. For each reactor in the library, a maximum likelihood calculation was utilized to compare the measured and simulated intra-element isotope ratio values, producing a likelihood value which is proportional to the probability of observing the measured ratio values, given a particular reactor in the library. The measured intra-element isotope ratio values of both irradiated samples and its comparison with the simulation predictions using maximum likelihood analyses are presented. The analyses validate the nuclear forensics methodology developed.

In this paper, the element combination algorithm for designing an arbitrary type of the automatic transmissions is proposed. The powertrain simulation software using this algorithm is then developed. The deliveries of the angular velocities and torques are only considered for the motion characteristics of the automatic transmissions. The effects of the vibration and noise are not considered. The automatic transmission is defined by the basic elements, i.e., planetary gear set, clutch, brake, shaft, general gear, and inertia. The transmission system is defined by the combination of these elements. The element combination matrices automatically generate the equations of motion for each shift. The self error-correcting algorithm is also developed to verify the element combination algorithm. This automotive powertrain simulation/design software with user-friendly graphic user interface has two main modules. The first module, the automatic powerflow generation module, mainly consists of the automatic powerflow and component generation algorithms. This paper covers the theory and application for the first module. The second module deals with the automatic system generation algorithm and will be discussed in the second paper.
