  • Rapid prototyping is one of the most important technology for 21th century industry. To overcome the limitation of the material and function, Functional Prototype Development(FPD) concept is newly proposed. Wide function is necessary such as mechanical, optical, chemical and electrical property in order to solve broad requirements of the industry. The process of FPD has more than two conventional processes based on fusion technology and the FPD system is integrated with the interdisciplinary, interfacing and intelligent concepts. This paper shows some representative achievements such as optic coloring prototypes, electric multi layer printed circuit broad(MLB) and MEMS using electrostrictive polymer. Finally, we confirmed that FPD has a great possibility which can be applied in broad industry and will be a powerful tool in near future.

The Characteristics of Piezoelectric Strian Constants on PNN-PZ-PT Ceramics (PNN-PZ-PT계 세라믹스의 압전변위특성)

  • The temperature dependence of piezoelectric strain constant and the electric field induced strain are investigated as a function of PT in 0.5[xPT-(1-x)PZ]-0.5PNN ceramics. The piezoelectric strain constant d31 has the highest value(360$\times$10-12m/V) at PT=0.68. The temperature dependence of d31 is improved as Curie temperature of sample is increased, and the electric field dependence of induced strain is decreased with the coercive field increased. This ceramic system shows both piezoelectric effect and electrostrictive effect under the applied electric field. The piezoelectric of tetragonal phase is higher than that of rhombohedral phase, and the magnitude of electrostrictive constant is appeared in the order of morphotropic, rhombohedral and tetragonal phase. The piezoelectric strain constant with applied field must be considered theelectrostrictive effect due to 90$^{\circ}$domain wall displacements, and the displacement of bimorph type actuator agrees with the calulated value well.

  • The effect of Ta substitution on the crystal structure, ferroelectric, and piezoelectric properties of $Bi_{0.5}(Na_{0.82}K_{0.18})_{0.5}Ti_{1-x}Ta_xO_3$ ceramics has been investigated. The Ta doping resulted in a transition from coexistence of ferroelectric tetragonal and rhombohedral phases to an electrostrictive pseudocubic phase, leading to degradations of the remnant polarization, coercive field, and piezoelectric coefficient $d_{33}$. However, the electricfield-induced strain was significantly enhanced by the Ta substitution-induced phase transition and reached a highest value of $S_{max}/E_{max}$ = 566 pm/V under an applied electric field 6 kV/mm when 2% Ta was substituted on Ti sites. The abnormal enhancement in strain was attributed to the pseudocubic phase with high electrostrictive constants.

  • Polymer electrostrictor materials can exhibit high electroactive strain and hold increasing promise for a variety of actuator applications. The size of available actuators has been limited, however, by the solution-based casting and annealing process generally required to prepare electrostrictor actuator materials. We report on a high throughput melt and stretch extrusion process capable of creating large sheets of an electrostructive terpolymer, poly (vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene-1, 1-chlorofluoroethlene) while producing a suitable crystallinity and crystal phase for high strain electrostrictor performance such as artificial muscle systems.

  • In order to understand the electrostrictive behavior of Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-PbTiO3 (PMN-PT) solid solutions the dielectric constants the electric-field-induced strains and the pyroelectric coefficients of (1-x)PMN-xPT (x=0.1-0.4) were investigated in the temperature range -50~20$0^{\circ}C$. For x=0.1~0.35 where the phase transi-tion is diffusive the strain has a maxima at the temperature of maximum pyroelectric coefficient (depolrizing temperature) rather than the temperature of maximum dielectric constant. For x=0.4 where the phase transition is relatively sharp the strain decreases monotonically as the temperature increases. Relationships among the above experimental results are discussed.

Phenomenological Analysis of Piezoelectric Properties in 0.88Pb(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3−0.12PbTiO3 Single Crystals with an Engineering Domain Configuration

  • The piezoelectric properties of tetragonal 0.88Pb$(Zn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3)O_3-0.12PbTiO_3$ single crystals are characterized along the <111> direction, which composed the engineering domain configuration in the tetragonal phase. The <111>-oriented crystal possessed smaller $d_{33}$ values compared to the crystal along the <001> spontaneous polarization direction. Based on phenomenological theory, it is shown that the engineering domain configuration does not enhance the piezoelectric constant in tetragonal 0.88Pb$(Zn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3)O_3-0.12PbTiO_3$ single crystals. In addition, the electrostrictive coefficients of $Q_{12}=-0.03706m^4/C^2,\;Q_{11}=0.10765m^4/C^2,\;and\;Q_{44}=0.02020m^4/C^2$ of tetragonal 0.88PZN-0.12PT single crystals were calculated.

Characteristics of PBZT Ceramics for Electrostrictive Actuator according to $WO_3$ (전외 액츄에이터용 PBZT 세라믹스의 $WO_3$ 첨가에 따른 특성)

  • To improve the electro-induced strain and to decease the hysteresis of that W $O_3$dopant of which amount is 0~0.8wt% was added to (P $b_{0.73}$/B $a_{0.27}$)(Z $r_{0.75}$/ $Ti_{0.25}$) $O_3$+0.1wt% $Y_{2}$/ $O_3$ceramics. At the specimen with 0.4 wt% W $O_3$the electromechanical coupling coefficient( $K_{31}$ ) showed the maximum value of 23.6% at D.C 10 kV/cm electric field. At the same W $O_3$addition amount the piezoelectric constant( $d_{31}$ ) and the electro-induced strain($\Delta$$\ell$/$\ell$)showed the highest values of 182$\times$10$^{-12}$ [C/N] 210$\times$10$^{-6}$ $\Delta$$\ell$/$\ell$at D.C. 10 kV/cm electric field. respectively0 kV/cm electric field. respectivelyvely.
