The Design of Fluorescent Lamp Electronic Ballast (형광등용 전자식 안정기의 설계)

  • Fluorescent lamp operated at high frequency by the electronic ballast provide ballasts like unnoticed flicker effect and higher luminous efficiency. This paper presents analysis of Half-Bridge type resonant inverter for Fluorescent lamp drive for stable characteristic and life improvement of lamp operated at high frequency. Also, it has described an electronic ballast design with the capability of high PF (Power Factor) and low THD (Total Harmonic Distortion). The validity of designed electronic ballast circuit is confirmed by simulation and experimental results. The Designed electronic ballast is implemented successfully on 32W Fluorescent lamp system.

Single-Stage Half-Bridge Electronic Ballast Using a Single Coupled Inductor

  • This paper proposes a single-stage half-bridge electronic ballast with a high power factor using only a single coupled inductor. Compared to conventional high power factor electronic ballasts, the proposed ballast is a simpler circuit with a low cost and a high reliability. The proposed ballast is made up of a power-factor-correction (PFC) circuit and a self-oscillating class-D inverter. The PFC and inverter stages of the proposed ballast are simplified by sharing only a single coupled inductor and two common switches. The proposed PFC circuit can achieve a high power factor and low voltage stresses of the switches. A saturable transformer in the self-oscillating class-D inverter determines the switching frequency of the ballast. Experimental results obtained on a 30W fluorescent lamp are discussed.

  • The cancellation of the output signal occur between output tubs have occurred place an electromagnetic interference and deteriorated the light efficiency of the neon tub. In order to prevent this problems, we have developed the modified electronic ballast for neon(MEBN). The MEBN have used a shielded line to the output and designated partly the half-bridge in the middle of the circuit. In an experimental results, this will be lengthen the life of the neon tub and obtain the effect which shields an electromagnetic wave to injurious to the people’s body.

  • Several power factor correction(PFC) circuits are presented to achieve high PF electronic ballast for both voltage-fed and current-fed electronic ballast. The proposed PFC circuits use valley-fill(VF) type DC-link stages modified from the conventional VF circuit to adopt the charge pumping method for PFC operations during the valley intervals. In voltage-fed ballast, charge pump capacitors are connected with the resonant capacitors. In current-fed type, the charge pump capacitors are connected with the additional secondary-side of the power transformer. The measured PF and THD are higher than 0.99 and 15% for all proposed PFC circuits. The lamp current CF is also acceptable in the proposed circuits. The proposed circuit is suitable for implementing cost-effective electronic ballast.

  • The purpose of this paper is to determine circuit parameters in the inverter part of the electronic dimming ballast for fluorescent lamps, that is adequate to use with the prevailing dimming controller IC. Firstly, the operating frequency characteristics are investigated by varying circuit parameters of electronic ballasts and are matched with the output characteristics of dimming ballast controller. Secondly, circuit parameter values are determined by using PSpice simulation and operating frequency characteristics. Finally its validity is verified from the electrical and light output characteristics on the prototype of the electronic dimming ballast.

  • This paper presents a new approach in the design of an electronic ballast for fluorescent lamps in the range of 10∼20W. The central point of the design lies in the equivalent concepts for a lamp and for the inverter part of an electronic ballast. The ballast, which adopts half-bridge inverter topology, is designed to adjust ifself to a predefined range of lamp power output by frequency control using MCU. At first, the circuit parameters were estimated using PSpice simulatio, and then were made varied according to the selection of an optimal frequency for each lamp. A series of experiments using fluorescent lamps of 11W, 15W, and 20W were carried out to verify the proposed design. As a result of the experiments, all the three lamps of different kind were run normally with the same ballast under consideration, And the characteristics on lamp starting and light output were satisfactory compared to existen single-output electronic ballasts.

  • 본 논문에서는 65 [W] 저압나트륨램프용 전자식 안정기를 제작하여 전기, 광학적 특성을 측정하였다. 개발한 전자식 안정기는 구동주파수가 200 [kHz]로, 기존의 25 [kHz] 전자식 안정기에 비하여 20% 이상의 효율향상을 달성하였다.

  • This paper describes real power difference continuous and on/off operation of ballast for fluorescent lamps. We tested ballasts for fluorescent lamps, such that glow stater ballast, rapid stating ballast, and electronic ballast. We measured consumed real power. Input voltage is A.C. 220V and ON time 8 is minutes, OFF time 2 is minutes.
