With advancement of computer and network, world wide web(WWW) as a medium of information communication is generalized in many fields. In educational aspect, applications of WWW as alternative media for class teachings or printed matters are increasing. In this article, we demonstrate a web-based electronic text on the 'probability and statistics' which is one of six fields of mathematics in the 7th curriculum. This text places importance on comprehension of concepts of probability and statistics as an applied science.

The thesis proposed the Text Extraction Algorithm which is a text extraction algorithm which uses the Coiflet Wavelet, YCbCr Color model and the close curve edge feature of adaptive LoG Operator in order to complement the demerit of the existing research which is weak in complexity of background, variety of light and disordered line and similarity of text and background color. This thesis is simulated with natural images which include naturally text area regardless of size, resolution and slant and so on of image. And the proposed algorithm is confirmed to an excellent by compared with an existing extraction algorithm in same image.

Text understand in natural images has become an active research field in the past few decades. In this paper, we present an automatic recognition system in Korean signboards with a complex background. The proposed algorithm includes detection, binarization and extraction of text for the recognition of shop names. First, we utilize an elaborate detection algorithm to detect possible text region based on edge histogram of vertical and horizontal direction. And detected text region is segmented by clustering method. Second, the text is divided into individual characters based on connected components whose center of mass lie below the center line, which are recognized by using a minimum distance classifier. A shape-based statistical feature is adopted, which is adequate for Korean character recognition. The system has been implemented in a mobile phone and is demonstrated to show acceptable performance.

This paper is to be pre-processing that decides the text recognizability and quality contained in natural image. Differentiated with the existing studies, In this paper, it suggests the application of partially unified color models, Coiflet Wavelet and text extraction algorithm that uses the closed curve edge features of LoG (laplacian of gaussian)operator. The text image included in natural image such as signboard has the same hue, saturation and value, and there is a certain thickness as for their feature. Each color element is restructured into closed area by LoG operator, the 2nd differential operator. The text area is contracted by Hough Transform, logical AND-OR operator of each color model and Minimum-Distance classifier. This paper targets natural image into which text area is added regardless of the size and resolution of the image, and it is confirmed to have more excellent performance than other algorithms with many restrictions.

We employed a hierarchical document classification method to classify a massive collection of electronic medical records(EMR) written in both Korean and English. Our experimental system has been learned from 5,000 records of EMR text data and predicted a newly given set of EMR text data over 68% correctly. We expect the accuracy rate can be improved greatly provided a dictionary of medical terms or a suitable medical thesaurus. The classification system might play a key role in some clinical decision support systems and various interpretation systems for clinical data.

This paper proposes an effective method for text detection in video. First, we apply an edge detection method to the video frame with a relative low threshold to keep all possible text edge pixels. Second, a multi-frame integration method is applied to significantly remove background pixels which are not stationary in a specific period. Finally, text regions are extracted by using the coarse to fine projection method. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

This study identifies communication patterns of groups using synchronous text communication medium for their group decision-making, and examines how these patterns are associated with creative solutions to problems. Our research suggests that certain communication behavior of groups, when appropriately organized, can be of help in enhancing creative production of outcomes. A qualitative study was conducted on communication patterns based on an analysis of text-based electronic conversation protocols. Specifically this research tried to overcome existing studies on electronic groups by focusing on interactive process of communication among participants. The major study conclusion; are: (1) The production of creative outcome may depend on the process or sequence of discussion among group members with synchronous text communication medium. That is, proper interactive responses and appropriate control of the discussion process are essential to obtain a high level of performance. (2) It is importantto make discuss rules based on meta-cognitive and interactive protocols in the early stage. Explicit rules relating to internal group processes as well as communication medium use are even more important to groups with electronic communication medium than face-to-face groups.

Rising publication costs and declining financial resources have resulted in renewed interest among librarians in resource sharing. Although the idea of sharing resources is not new, there is a sense of urgency not seen in the past. Driven by rising publication costs and static and often shrinking budgets, librarians are embracing resource sharing as an idea whose time may finally have come. Resource sharing in electronic environments is creating a shift in the concept of the library as a warehouse of print-based collection to the idea of the library as the point of access to need information. Much of the library's material will be delivered in electronic form, or printed. In this new paradigm libraries can not be expected to su n.0, pport research from their own collections. These changes, along with improved communications, computerization of administrative functions, fax and digital delivery of articles, advancement of data storage technologies, are improving the procedures and means for delivering needed information to library users. In short, for resource sharing to be truly effective and efficient, however, automation and data communication are essential. The possibility of using full-text online databases as a su n.0, pplement to interlibrary loan for document delivery is examined. At this point, this article presents possibility of using full-text online databases as a means to interlibrary loan for document delivery. The findings of the study can be summarized as follows : First, turn-around time and the cost of getting a hard copy of a journal article from online full-text databases was comparable to the other document delivery services. Second, the use of full-text online databases should be considered as a method for promoting interlibrary loan services, as it is more cost-effective and labour saving. Third, for full-text databases to work as a document delivery system the databases must contain as many periodicals as possible and be loaded on as many systems as possible. Forth, to contain many scholarly research journals on full-text databases, we need guidelines to cover electronic document delivery, electronic reserves. Fifth, to be a full full-text database, more advanced information technologies are really needed.

Appearance of full-text online is the most encouraging phenomenon ·during the development of databases. The full-text databases of today is derived from by-product of electronic publication of printed materials. Now, there are also some movements toward electronic production of documents in Korea although not powerful. The present study is designed to examine the characteristics and effective retrieval method of full-text databases now commercially available through various vendors. The outline of this paper IS as follows: First, background and present situation of existing full-text database services through national and worldwide are examined. Second, free-text searching system of full-text databases is compared with controlled vocabulary system. The factors influencing on free-text retrieval performance, searching thesaurus, and hybrid or compromising system, which is using limited controlled vocabulary in conjunction with natural language for the enrichment needed for practical operation of the . system, are examined. Third, user demands through the analysis of preceding studies on 'various types of full-text databases are recognised. Fouth, application of CD-ROM full-text database to the libraries and information centers is examined as prospective resources for them. Finally, some problems and prospect of full-text databases are presented.

In this paper, a new text-based method is suggested for the user-system interaction. The use of text-based user interface is mote efficient under situation which don't be introduced the GUI because of the limitation of hardware cost or improvement of system performance. The dialogical method using suggested hierarchical structure is the easier for a convenience of usage and the method in this paper is the more useful as considering knowledgeable background and environment of task for user As a practical example, the method for the proposed text-based user interface construction is applied to Double-Lift Open Shedding Electronic Jacquard.
