A Study on Suppressed Hunting of Diesel Engine Truck Using Electronic Governor (전자식 가버너를 이용한 디젤 자동차의 헌팅억제 제어에 관한 연구)

  • The propulsion diesel engine have been widely applied with a mechanical governor to control the truck speed for a long time. But it was recently very difficult for mechanical governor to control the speed of long stock and diesel engine of truck because of hunting by dead time between fuel injection and power output. This study is aimed to configure the modeling for performance simulation regarding to diesel truck operation which could be suppressed for hunting. The modeling have been made on the base of dynamic characteristic such as electronic governor, injection of fuel system and operating states of diesel engine truck. Real model system have been introduced for deciding reacting parameters and for the comparison of resulting performance in simulation. In results of simulation, we obtained items which diesel truck drives for suppressed hunting.

  • There are three main devices such as boiler producing steam, turbine driving generator and generator producing electricity. An electrical generator in power plant is driven and maintained its speed at rated by steam turbine which is coupled into generator directly. Therefore after the steam turbine reaches its rated speed and the generator gets into parallel operation with power grid, the electrical power can be increased by turbine controller or governor. The first governor was invented by James Watts for the steam engine to be maintained at a constant speed. The first governor by him was mechanical type with fly balls. The electrical type governor was created due to the progress of electronic devices such as operational amplifiers or integrated circuits. and Today digital electronic type of governor is being widely used in most prime movers.

  • Governors control the revolution speed of heat engines such as diesel engines, steam turbines and gas turbines. Precise and prompt tests for the control performances of governors are essential both in governors' manufacturing processes and in governors' maintenance processes. In the conventional governor test systems controlled by analog type electronic controllers, the incorporation of heat engine's dynamics to the test system have been considered very difficult to realize. This study suggests a new governor test system controlled by a digital controller using a personal computer. The application of the digital controller to the test system instead of the analog type electronic controller have brought about the following advancements; (1) heat engine's dynamics could be implemented easily in the test system, (2) automatic test data acquisition both in steady state and in transient state enables us to save test time and to enhance the reliability of the tests.

  • 증기 Turbine plant의 제어방식은 점점 더 복잡하게 고도화하고 있으며 원심 또는 유압조속기등 Lever와 유압기구의 조합으로 구성된 기계유압식 Governor 대신에 전자유압식 Governor(Electro-Hydraulic Governor, EHG 일반적으로 광의의 의미로는 전자유압식제어장치 Electro-Hydraulic Control System이라함)의 개발에 주력하고 있으며 본보고서는 이에 대한 시험결과를 기술한 것이다. 본보고서는 산업용(자가발전용) 증기 Turbine의 전자유압식 Governor에 관한 것으로서 기계유압식에서의 복잡한 Lever 기구, Relay 장치등 기계부분의 전자유압화와 고압제어유의 채용및 이에 따르는 각부분의 Module화, Solid State화 및 소형 Unit화에 의하여 취급및 보수가 용이한 고성능의 제어장치를 개발하게 되었다. 특히 미국의 GE사에서 이에 대한 개발이 앞서 있으며 현재 100MW까지 약 30대가 실용화되고 있다고 한다.   • Gas turbine generators in load-following operation in the domestic power system play a major role in maintaining the rated frequency, but often have poor frequency control. Therefore, after examining the control characteristics of the governor, which is a gas turbine speed control device, and analyzing the failure types, countermeasures were suggested for each case. In addition, it was confirmed through the governor response test that the gas turbine helps in frequency recovery depending on the speed of fuel control, but also acts as a factor impeding stable operation, such as rapid fluctuations in combustion chamber temperature and combustion vibration. Therefore, in order to maintain stable power quality, there was a need for thorough facility management as well as research on the governor control method in which the traditional PID control method and the machine learning algorithm, a core field of the 4th industry, were fused.

  • The government established the 8th national energy plan that electricity energy from renewables in 2030 will be 20%. The frequency stability problem is one of the key issues to overcome for accomplishing the energy plan. Frequency quality deteriorates due to short term variations of renewables output. Battery energy storage system(BESS) is considered as a good alternative to improve the frequency quality due to its quick response. In this paper, we examined the effectiveness of BESS against the conventional governor properties.

Introduction of Generator Unit Controller and Its Tuning for Automatic Generation Control in Korean Energy Management System (K-EMS)

  • Automatic generation control (AGC) is an important function for load frequency control, which is being implemented in Energy Management System (EMS). A key feature of AGC is to back up governors to enhance the performance of frequency control. The governor regulates system frequency in several to ten seconds, while the droop control concept results in steady-state control error. AGC is a supplementary tool for compensation of the steady-state error caused by the droop setting of the governors. As the AGC target is delivered to each generator as an open loop control target, the generator output is not guaranteed to follow the AGC target. In this paper, we introduce generating unit controller (GUC) control block, which has the purpose of enabling the generator output to track the AGC target while maintaining the governor performance. We also address the tuning methods of GUC for better performance of AGC in the Korea Energy Management System (K-EMS).

  • The popularity of augmented reality (AR) applications and games are in high demand. Currently, the best common platform to implement AR services is on a smartphone, as online games, navigators, personal assistants, travel guides are among the most popular applications of smartphones. However, the power consumption of an AR application is extremely high, and therefore, highly adaptable and dynamic low power control schemes must be used. Dynamic voltage and frequency scaling (DVFS) schemes are widely used in smartphones to minimize the energy consumption by controlling the device's operational frequency and voltage. DVFS schemes can sometimes lead to longer response times, which can result in a significant problem for AR applications. In this paper, an AR response time monitor is used to observe the time interval between the AR image input and device's reaction time, in order to enable improved operational frequency and AR application process priority control. Based on the proposed response time monitor and the characteristics of the Linux kernel's completely fair scheduler (CFS) (which is the default scheduler of Android based smartphones), a response time step control (RSC) scheme is proposed which adaptively adjusts the CPU frequency and interactive application's priority. The experimental results show that RSC can reduce the energy consumption up to 10.41% compared to the ondemand governor while reliably satisfying the response time performance limit of interactive applications on a smartphone.

  • Since FERC order 755 was published, each frequency regulation market rules of the North American ISO/RTO have been revised in many parts. In 2016, the domestic CBP market has also changed its market rules to allow ESS to participate in the frequency regulation reserve services(Governor Free and Automatic Generation Control). This paper compares and analyzes the changed North American ISP/RTO market and domestic CBP market rules. In particular, we compare PJM and CAISO frequency regulation market pricing mechanism and settlement rules with the settlement rules of the domestic CBP market and compare the factors of each market used to compensate the participating resources in terms of resource dependency and accuracy.

  • As national power consumption every year increases, the power plant which is in the process of planning tries to establish high-capacity generator. The power system tends to become a large size. With the progress of electronic components, the control systems of the generator have been digitalized and rapid-response control system is possible. However, the minute frequency vibration of grid occurred with the effect of rapid-response control system. To solve these problem, PPS(Power System Stability) has been introduced since 2004, and it has being installed and applied to the thermal and nuclear power plant which are high-capacity, over 800MVA. However the minute frequency vibration is gradually changed to the bigger frequency vibration by fast-action control system, and this regional frequency fluctuation might be diffused wide area. Therefore, it is applied to the hydro generator which is small with fast-action governor system, and it is necessary to control the minute frequency vibration to prevent to diffuse. In this paper, the effect will be proved by establishing PSS on the Hydro-Generator which has both digital excitation and governor system for the first time in Korea.
