9%Ni 강의 전자빔 용접성에 관한 연구 (I) - 전자빔 특성과 용입 - (A Study on the Electrom Beam Weldability of 9%Ni Steel (I) - Penetration and Electron Beam Characteristics -)

  • This study was performed to evaluate basic characteristics of electron beam welding process for a 9% Ni steel plate. The principal welding process parameters, such as working distance, accelerating voltage, beam current and welding speed were investigated. The AB (Arata Beam) test method was also applied to characterize beam size and energy density of the electron beam welding process. The electron beam size was found to decrease with the increase of accelerating voltage and the decrease of working distance. So, in case of high voltage (150kV), spot size and energy density of electron beam were revealed to be 0.9mm and $6.5\times10^5W/\textrm{cm}^2$ respectively. The accelerating voltage among the welding parameters was found to be the most important factor governing the penetration depth. When the accelerating voltage of electron beam was low ($\leq$90kV), beam current and welding speed did not affect on the penetration depth significantly. However, in case of high voltage ($\geq$120kV), the depth of penetration increased very sensitively with the increase of beam current and the decrease of welding speed.

Characteristics of Electron Beam Extraction in Large Area Electron Beam Generator

  • A large area electron beam generator has been developed for industrial applications, for example, waste water cleaning, flue gas treatment, and food pasteurization. The operational principle is based on the emission of secondary electrons from the cathode when ions in the plasma contact the cathode, which are accelerated toward the exit window by the gradient of the electric potential. Conventional electron beam generators require an electron beam scanning mechanism because a small area thermal electron emitter is used. The electron beam of the large area electron beam generator does not need to be scanned over target material because the beam area is considerable. We have fabricated a large area electron beam generator with peak energy of 200keV, and a beam diameter of 200mm. The electron beam current has been investigated as a function of accelerating voltage and distance from the extracting window while its radial distribution in front of the extracting window has been also measured.

  • It has been investigates that electric characteristics of plasma electron beam in N$_{2}$, H$_{2}$ and Ar gas jars under various gas pressures during electron beams are formed. The results are as follows: 1)Electron beam is formed in the region of positive resistance on the characteristic curve. This phenomenon is identical in N$_{2}$, H$_{2}$ and Ar gases. 2)But in Ar gas, electron beam is formed at relatively lower gas pressure than in H$_{2}$ and N$_{2}$. 3)In pure gas either N$_{2}$, H$_{2}$ and N$_{2}$ the lower the gas pressure, the higher the voltage drop for the same electron beam current. 4)The region in which electron beam is formed is limited at a given pressure. 5)Beyond the limit mentioned above, it becomes glow discharge state and the current increases radically. 6)At a given gas pressure, electron beam voltage, that is, electrical power input increases with gap length.

  • An electron beam was used to mainly utilize for polishing, finishing, welding, a lithography process, etc. Due to the high technical level of difficulty of high-power density electron beam, it is difficult to secure related technologies. In this study, research was carried out to improve the machinability by developing the vaporized amplification sheets to realize the electron beam drilling technology. Their vaporized amplification sheets were analyzed by using the measurement of chemical and composition, which is such as TGA, SEM. We analyzed micro-hole processing using a microscope. Also, the thermal characteristics of vaporized amplification sheets are highly significant for applying to high-power density electron beam technique. So, we finished the vaporized amplification sheets according to the process conditions and analyzed it according to the machining conditions of the electron beam. It was confirmed that the effect on the experimental results differs depending on the influence of the metal powder contained in the developed material.

  • We have studied that the secondary electron emission characteristics of functional layers which have different kinds of MgO sub-micrometer size powder in AC-PDP. We used cathodoluminescence(CL) and gamma focused ion beam (${\gamma}$-FIB) system for measurement of secondary electron emission characteristics. Also we made 6 inch test panel which applied functional layers for evaluation of discharge characteristics.

  • ITO(Indium Tin Oxide) 전극 형성방법은 ITO 박막 자체의 전기 광학적 특성 뿐 아니라 ITO를 전극으로 하는 청색 발광 다이오드(파장 469nm)의 전기 광학적 특성 및 신뢰성에도 큰 영향을 미침을 확인하였다. 세 가지 ITO 전극 형성 방법 즉 electron beam evaporation법과 sputtering법, 그리고 electron beam evaporation법으로 먼저 증착한 뒤에 sputtering법으로 증착한 hybrid법 등을 사용하여 청색 발광 다이오드를 제작한 다음에 ITO 박막의 특성과 aging에 따른 발광 다이오드의 전기 광학적 특성 변화를 고찰하였다. 그 결과, ITO 전극을 sputtering 또는 electron beam evaporation 방법으로 형성한 발광 다이오드는 각각 sputtering damage의 문제와 전기저항이 증가하는 문제점을 안고 있음을 발견하였다. 그리고 이 문제점들을 hybrid 방법으로 해결하였다.

  • A large cross-section pulsed electron beam generator of cold cathode type has been developed for industrial applications, for example, waste water cleaning, flue gas cleaning, and pasteurization etc. The operational principle is based on the emission of secondary electrons from cold cathode when ions in the plasma hit the cathode, which are accelerated toward exit window by the gradient of an electric potential. The conventional electron beam generators need an electron scanning beam because the small cross section thermal electron emitter is used. The electron beam of large cross-section pulsed electron beam generator do not need to be scanned over target material because the beam cross section is large by 300$cm^2$. We have fabricated the large cross-sectional pulsed electron beam generator with the peak energy of 200keV and beam diameter of 200mm and obtained the large area electron beam in the air. The electron beam current has been investigated as a function of accelerating voltage, glow discharge current, helium pressure, distance from the exit window and radial distribution in front of the exit window.

  • 마이크로칼럼에 사용되는 전자렌즈는 MEMS 공정으로 정밀하게 가공되어 기존의 전자칼럼에 비하여 광학수차를 최소화 할 수 있으며, 이는 전자칼럼의 성능 향상에 주요한 요소로 작용한다. 습식 식각과 건식 식각에 의해 형성되는 전자렌즈의 모양과 배열조합에 따른 전자 광학계 연구는 중요한 의미가 있다. 마이크로칼럼은 전자방출원, source 렌즈, deflector, focus 렌즈(Einzel 렌즈)로 구성되는데, 전자빔의 특성에 가장 큰 영향을 주는 source 렌즈의 구성 요소 중 extractor와 limiting aperture의 모양에 따른 전자빔 특성을 조사하여 마이크로칼럼 제작에 있어서 최적화된 전자렌즈 조합을 도출하였다.

FRACTURE TOUGHNESS CHARACTERISTICS IN HIGH ENERGY DENSITY BEAM WELDED JOINT OF HIGH TENSILE STEELS

  • The purpose of the study is to evaluate fracture toughness on the Laser and the electron beam welded joints of high tensile steels (HT500, HT550, HT650) by using 3-point bend CTOD and Charpy impact test. WM (weld metal) CTOD tests have been carried out using two kinds of CTOD specimen, the Laser beam welding (108mm length, and 24mm width, and 12mm thickness) and the electron beam welding (l71mm length, and 38mm width, and 19mm thickness). WM Charpy impact specimen is a standard V-notch type, and the temperature of the experiment is changed from -45 to 20 degree of centigrade. FE-analysis is also performed in order to investigate the effect of stress-strain fields on fracture characteristics. Results of the standard V-notch Charpy test are influenced by strength mis-match effect and the absorbed energy vE depends on crack path, and The transition temperature of Laser beam welded joints is more higher than that of electron beam welded joints. Results of the 3-point bend test give low critical CTOD and the crack path is in the weld metal of al specimens. These results indicate fracture toughness characteristics of the welded joints and transition temperature of HT500 are similar both a Laser beam welded joint and an electron beam welded joint. But the fracture toughness and the transition temperature of the electron beam welded joints of HT550 and HT650 are higher than those o the Laser beam welded joints.
