The main noise source of the BLDC rotary compressor for air conditioner was analyzed by using the measurement of noise and vibration, noise contour, and experimental modal analysis. The source is presumed to the mechanical resonance excited by the electromagnetic attractive force of the BLDC motor. To reduce the excessive noise of the BLDC rotary compressor due to the mechanical resonance, air-gap was enlarged. Its validation was conducted by the analysis of the electromagnetic attractive force which is generated by the BLDC motor. By enlarging the length of air-gap, the noise in the compressor and air conditioner was significantly improved by 2.5dB(A) and 4.5dB(A), respectively.
An axial electromagnetic levitation system using attractive force is a highly nonlinear system due to the nonlinearity of materials, variable air gap and flux density. To control the levitating system with large air gap, a conventional PID control based on the linear model is not satisfactory to obtain the desired performance and the position tracking control of the sinusoidal motion by simulation results. Thus, sliding mode control(SMC) based on the input-output linearization is suggested and evaluated by simulation and experimental approaches. Usefulness of the SMC to this system is conformed experimentally. If the expected variation of added mass can be included in the gain conditions and the model, the position control performance of the electromagnetic levitation system with large air gap will be improved with robustness.
The main noise and vibration source of the BLDC rotary compressor for air conditioner was analyzed by using the measurement of noise and vibration, noise contour, and experimental modal analysis. The source is presumed to the mechanical resonance excited by the electromagnetic attractive force of the BLDC motor. To reduce the excessive noise of the BLDC rotary compressor due to the mechanical resonance, air-gap enlargement and structural dynamic modification were applied in this paper. Its validations were conducted by the analysis of the electromagnetic attractive force which is generated by the BLDC motor and by the measurement of noise and vibration of the BLDC rotary compressor. By enlarging the length of air-gap and conducting the structural dynamic modification, the noise and vibration in the compressor was significantly improved by 4.5 dB(A) and 56 percent, respectively.
The vibration and noise caused by the dynamic interaction between electromagnetic suspension and the linear synchronous motor stator beneath a flexible guideway remain problems in designing attractive Maglev trains. One possible method to reduce the sources of vibration is to minimize the detent force in the linear synchronous motor that creates variations in both lift force and thrust. This paper proposes lowering detent force by using separated core instead of single united core. The magnet is designed to adapt to the deflected guideway at a speed of 550km/h. This study will analyze the electromagnetic field and control performance, and how they relate to lift forces and dynamic responses.
Electromagnetic forces (Attractive and repulsive force), interacting between current leads show different tendency according to the arrangement of current leads on the top flange of the cryostat and the distance of each lead. Especially in case of high-current electric power devices or high-field magnets, optimal arrangement of current leads becomes one of the safety issues to be considered for minimizing the electromagnetic for ce acting on them. In this paper, we suggest an optimal arrangement method with three pairs of current leads for a 24kV class 650A superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) system which has a probability of unpredicted fault currents(i.e, 20kA).
In teleoperation, it is important for an operator to feel as if he really were in a distant place. To realize this objective, the various information from a remote site must be presented to the operator. Even though tactile information is very important to efficiently execute a task, it is not yet sufficiently provided for the operator. In this paper, we propose the new mechanism that can provide the more dexterous tactile information to the operator This device utilizing the electromagnetic force is designed to be compact and light enough to be attached to the fingerpad, and designed to be controlled continuously. The magnetic circuit is derived by the probable flux paths method in order to take forces at any given dimension. An optimization technique is also proposed to maximize the tactile force that humans can perceive under the same conditions. The objective function is formulated as maximizing displacements indented on the fingerpad, considering the mechanism of human tactile perception. The optimization formulation is subject to the geometric and rising temperature constraints in the coil. It is demonstrated that, by optimization, the tactile force increases by 24%, compared with that obtained from the initial design.
This paper presents a new nonmechanical rehabilitation system driven by magnetic force. Typically, finger rehabilitation mechanisms are complex mechanical systems. The proposed method allows wireless operation, a simple configuration, and easy installation on the hand for active actuation by magnetic force. The system consists of a driving coil, driving magnets (M1), and auxiliary magnets (M2 and M3), respectively, at the finger, palm, and the center of coil. The magnets and the driving coil produce three magnetic forces for an active motions of the finger. During active actuations, magnetic attractive forces between M1 and M2 or between M1 and M3 enhance the flexion/extension motions. The proposed system simply improves the extension motion of the finger using a magnetic system. In this system, the maximum force and angular variation of the extension motion were 0.438 N and $49^{\circ}$, respectively. We analyzed the magnetic interaction in the system and verified finger's active actuation.
Differential equations governing dynamic behavior of toroid-shaped ferro-magnetic material having a small gap of uniform width were derived incorporating Maxwell equations of electromagnetic induction relevent to the system and Newtonian equation of motion. Once the external uniform magnetic field was applied within the material through dc-circuit around the toroid, gap begin to change which lead to the abrupt variation of field in the material and gap according to the differential equations already derived. Characteristics of current and electromotive force with respect to time in the circuit consisting of inductance and resistance in series could be predicted from numerical solutions of these equations. As current in the circuit increasesl, magnetic field in the material increases, thus, the gap starts to shrink due to increased attractive force between gap and elastic restoring force in the material. With an appropriate selection of elastic constant of toroidal ferromagnetic material and design of gap structure it is possible to obtain the specified in both linear and nonlinear magnetic characteristics, such as current dependent and independent inductance.
Optical image stabilization is a technique to compensate the image blurring caused by some vibrations of camera at the exposure time. Pitching and yawing of camera are sensitive to the image quality so they are usually compensated by optical image stabilization. Corresponding pitching and yawing of a camera, a lens or the image sensor is translated in two-axis direction and then the optical path of camera is adjusted. In this paper, two-axis OIS actuator for mobile camera module is suggested and designed. The actuator is a voice-coil actuator that uses the electromagnetic force of voice-coil to make compensation motions. And ball bearing is used to reduce friction force. Magnetic attractive force between magnets and yokes acts as a preload and magnet springs. Prototype actuator is fabricated to measure the friction force and to verify the feasibility of the OIS actuator with ball bearing. At last, the actuator is improved in consideration of driving force and friction force. Design of experiments is used for designing the actuator.
