  • This paper presents the characteristics of antenna factors of half-wave resonance dipole antennas above a ground plane. The current distributions on a horizontal and vertical dipole antennas were analyzed by the Galerkin's method of moments, and these solutions are used for calculating the horizontal and vertical antenna factors above the ground plane. It is shown that accurate antenna factors of the horizontal and vertical dipole above the ground plane are required of the radiated emission test.

  • A few years from now, gravitational wave (GW) detectors of LIGO and VIRGO consortiums are expected to reach the sensitivity necessary to detect GW signals from astronomical sources. Identification of the counterparts to the GW sources in electromagnetic wave is very important, since the localization of the GW signals is going to be very poor (~1000 $deg^2$) for the first detections and the nature of the GW-emitting sources will be uncertain with the GW detection only. In this talk, we will discuss possible astronomical sources that could be responsible for the first GW signals, and outline our current efforts to do follow-up observation of GW sources in collaboration with LIGO/VIRGO groups.

  • In this paper, a waveguide-type resonator with a slot is proposed to measure permittivity of thin film from resonant frequency shifting by an attached MUT(Material Under Test). The MUT on the slot shifts resonant frequency by perturbation of electromagnetic field. Amount of shifting resonance frequency is dependent on the permittivity of MUT, and that relation is obtained from numerical simulation. The measured relative permittivity of a thin film with thickness of $65{\mu}m$ is 3.3492 with standard error of ${\pm}0.0605$ in the frequency range of 2 GHz to 3 GHz. Also the proposed method is compared with other measuring methods such as dielectric resonator and waveguide probe systems.

  • The tracking radar system is installed and operated on the ground, ships, and aircraft, and requires a design to withstand electromagnetic interference with nearby electronic devices. In this case, radiation and immunity standards for cable connection must be satisfied to prevent malfunction of other equipment due to electromagnetic wave interference caused by cables connected to the tracking radar. The radiation standard must also be satisfied so that the electromagnetic wave noise generated and radiated from the tracking radar does not affect the peripheral device, so that the immunity standard for the electromagnetic wave emitted from the peripheral device must be satisfied. In this paper, we propose a design to satisfy MIL-STD-461G including CE, CS, RE, and RS, and explain design satisfaction through tests.

  • When the cylindrical wave is incident on a plane dielectric interface from a denser medium to a rarer one, the asymptotic solution for the transmitted wave in the near region is different from the one in the far region. In this paper, we have derived a novel uniform asymptotic solution represented by using the parabolic cylinder function for the transmitted and scattered waves observed in the rarer medium when the cylindrical wave is incident on the plane dielectric interface from the denser medium. The validity of the uniform asymptotic solution has been confirmed by comparing with the reference solution calculated numerically. It has been clarified that the transition wave plays an important role to connect smoothly the asymptotic solution in the near region to the one in the far region through the transition region. We have shown the very interesting phenomenon that the lateral wave type transmitted wave is observed in the far and shallow region.

  • Recently, the demand on mm-wave (millimeter-wave) applications has increased dramatically. While circuits operating in the mm-wave frequency band have been traditionally implemented in III-V or SiGe technologies, recent advances in Si MOSFET operation speed enabled mm-wave circuits realized in a Si CMOS technology. In this work, a 58 GHz CMOS LC cross-coupled VCO (Voltage Controlled Oscillator) was fabricated in a $0.13-{\mu}m$ Si RF CMOS technology. In the course of the circuit design, active device models were modified for improved accuracy in the mm-wave range and EM (electromagnetic) simulation was heavily employed for passive device performance predicttion and interconnection parasitic extraction. The measured operating frequency ranged from 56.5 to 58.5 GHz with a tuning voltage swept from 0 to 2.3 V. The minimum phase noise of -96 dBc/Hz at 5 MHz offset was achieved. The output power varied around -20 dBm over the measured tuning range. The circuit drew current (including buffer current) of 10 mA from 1.5 V supply voltage. The FOM (Figure-Of-Merit) was estimated to be -165.5 dBc/Hz.

  • Recently, Hi-pass system(non-stop electric toll collection) using DSRC is working. However, it has various problems such as system errors by EM wave interference or multi-path reflection. The EM wave absorber is able to solve these problems. In this paper, we designed and fabricated EM wave absorber using amorphous substance. As a result EM wave absorber with composition of amorphous metal powder:CPE=45:55 wt.% has the thickness of 2.65 mm and absorption ability was higher than 40 dB at 5.8 GHz.

  • The goal of this research is to get a measuring system for absorption characteristics of electromagnetic wave absorbers in ferrite type which are lat grid-type special type etc. It is however very difficult to measure the absorption characteristics as in low frequency as in 30 MHz, To solve the problem therefore we propose a standing wave method and a measurement method in time domain using parallel striplines construct the measuring system and measure the characteristics of ferrite microwave absorbers in grid type using the proposed measuring system.
