  • In recent years, grinding techniques for precision machining of brittle materials used in die, model and optical parts have been improved by using superfine abrasive wheel and precision grinding machine. The completion of optimum dressing of superfine abrasive wheel makes possible the effective precision grinding of die steel(STD-11). In this study, a new system and the grinding mechanism of optimum in-process electrolytic dressing were proposed. This method can carry out optimum in-process electrolytic dressing of superfine abrasive wheel. Therefore, the optimum in-process electrolytic dressing is a good method to obtain the efficiency and mirror-like grinding of STD-11.

  • The establishment of a practical ultra-precision grinding technique using Diamond and CBN wheels is one of the major key technolo-gies to improve production techniques for machine-to-difficult materials without finishing process such as lapping and polishing. But the special efficient dressing technique for ultra-fine grit type grinding wheels to stabilize the grinding ability was not developed. Recently electrolytic in-process dressing technique is proposed to ultra-fine grit type metal bonded diamond wheels to protrude abra-sives continuously from the tool surface. This technology can be widely used to surface grinding and cylindrical grinding but cannot be used efficiently to internal grinding because of the electrode attachment trouble. This paper describes the effect of interval type electrolytic dressing as proposed newly to cast iron bonded diamond wheel for efficient internal grinding with mirror type high quality ground surface.

  • The ELID(electrolytic in-process dressing) grinding method is a new precision grinding technique with the special electrolytic in-process dressing by metal bonded grinding wheel, fluid, and power supply. It is possible to make a efficient precision machining of hard and brittle materials such as ceramics, hard metals, and quenched steels by using this method, In this study, a new efficient precision grinding method with ELID was attempted for application to the machining and finishing processes of cylindrical structural components. And, we try to develop the cylindrical grinding technique for mirror surface of ceramics, tungsten carbide and SCM steel, and for the high efficiency grinding of machined parts, for example, ball screw shaft. Electrical characteristics of three different wheel grit sizes of #325, #2000 and #4000 were investigated experimentally. ELID grinding method is proved to be useful for mirror surface generation and efficient machining.

  • In recent years, grinding techniques for precision machining of astainless steel used in shaft, screw parts and clear value have been improved by using superabrasive wheel and precision grinding machine. The completion of optimum dressing of superabrasive wheel makes possible the effective percision grinding of stainless steel. However, the present dressing system cannot have control of optimum dressing of the superabrabive wheel. In this study, a new system and the grinding mechanism of optimum in-process electrolytic dressing were proposed. This system can carry out optimum in-process dressing of superabrasive wheel. • Electrolytic In-Process Dressing grinding technique which enables application of metal bond wheels with fine superabrasives in mirror surface grinding operations has developed. This paper provides charateristic evaluation of power supply supply that we developed and general charateristics of ELID grinding. The electric behaviors are compared each about two different electrode which has 1/4, 1/6 the area of entire wheel surface, and two different fluids which has 1:50, 1:30 the quantity of water was used to dillute grinding fluids. The results show that ELID grinding method is useful for mirror surface machining.

  • Electrolytic in-process dressing grinding technique which enables application of metal bond wheels with fine superabrasives in mirror surface grinding operations has developed. It is possible to make efficient precision machining of hard and brittle material such as ceramic and hard metal by the employment of this technique. However, in order to ensure the success of performances such as efficient machining, surface finish, and surface quality, it is important to sustain the insulating layer that has sharply exposed abrasives in wheel surface. Using AE(Acoustic Emission) sensor, this paper will show whether the insulating layer sustains stably or not in real grinding time. And by comparing AErms value and surface roughness their thresholds for stable electrolytic in-process dressing grinding will be determined.
