Effects of PTFE and W Addition on the Anti-Wear Properties of Ni-P Coatings (PTFE 및 W 첨가가 Ni-P 도금의 내마모 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • Electroless Ni-P coating is widely used for chemical, electronic, and semiconductor equipment parts because of its corrosion resistance. The incorporation of chemically-inert PTFE particles into the Ni-P films improves properties such as, non-stick, anti-adhesive and better corrosion resistance. However, soft PTFE particles degrade the hardness, wear and abrasion resistance. In this study, effects of PTFE and W addition to the Ni-P-coatings were compared by the XRD, SEM, sheet resistance, contact angle, and microhardness measurements. The change in sheet resistance was negligible, but contact angle was doubled by the addition of PTFE and W. The microhardness was lower for Ni-P-PTFE, but higher for Ni-P-PTFE-W coatings, compared to that of Ni-P coatings.

Electrical and Resistance Heating Properties of Carbon Fiber Heating Element for Car Seat (자동차 시트용 탄소섬유 발열체의 전기적 및 저항 발열 특성)

  • In this paper, the electrical and resistance heating properties of carbon fiber heating elements with different electroless Ni-P plating times for car seat were studied. The specific resistance and specific heat of the carbon fibers were determined using 4-point probe method and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), respectively. The surface morphology and temperature of carbon fibers were measured by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and thermo-graphic camera, respectively. From experimental results, the nickel layer thickness and surface temperature of carbon fibers increased with increasing the plating time. However, the specific heat and specific resistance decreased with respect to the increased plating time. In conclusion, the electroless Ni-P plating could improve the resistance heating and electrical properties of carbon fiber heating elements for car seat.

Interfacial fracture Energy between Electroless Plated Ni film and Polyimide for Flexible PCB Applications (Flexible PCB용 무전해 도금 Ni 박막/Polyimide 계면파괴에너지 평가)

  • It is investigated how KOH and Rthylenediamine(EDA) treatment conditions on Polyimide film surface affect the interfacial fracture energy between electroless plated Ni and Polyimide film by $180^{\circ}$ peel test. Estimated values of interfacial fracture energy were 24.5 g/mm and 33.3 g/mm for the KOH treatment times under 1 and 5 minutes, respectively, while, those were 31.6 g/mm and 22.3 g/mm for EDA treatment times under 1 and 5 minutes, respectively. Interfacial bonding between electroless plated Ni and Polyimide seems to be dominated by chemical bonding effect rather than mechanical interlocking effect. It is found that chemical treatment produces carboxyl and mine functional groups which are closely related the interfacial bonding mechanism. Finally, it is speculated that interfacial fracture energy seems to be controlled by O=C-O bonding near cohesive failure region.

  • A 110 mm diameter aspheric metal secondary mirror for a test model of an earth observation satellite camera was fabricated by ultra-precision single point diamond turning (SPDT). Aluminum alloy for mirror substrates is known to be easily machinable, but not polishable due to its ductility. A harder material, Ni, is usually electrolessly coated on an Al substrate to increase the surface hardness for optical polishing. Aspheric metal secondary mirror without a conventional polishing process, the surface roughness of Ra=10nm, and the form error of $Ra={\lambda}/12({\lambda}=632nm)$ has been required. The purpose of this research is to find the optimum machining conditions for reflector cutting of electroless-Ni coated Al alloy and apply the SPDT technique to the manufacturing of ultra precision optical components of metal aspheric reflector.

Effect of Heat Treatment on the Adhesive Strength of Electoless Nickel Deposits (무전해법으로 Slide Glass 위에 도금된 Ni층의 접착력에 미치는 열처리의 영향)

  • Surface modification before coating nickel by coupling agents and/or etchant of glass did not provide enough adhesive strength of electroless nickel deposits on glass. Effect of heat treatments on hardness as well as adhesion of nickel deposits was studied by using tape test for adhesion, nanoindenter for hardness and glancing angle x-ray diffractometer (GAXRD) for phase characterization. Heat treatment improved hardness as well as adhesion. XRD results give that the improvements of adhesion and hardness are due to the formation of $NiSiO_4$ around the interface between the nickel deposits and the glass and the precipitation of $Ni_3P$ causing precipitation hardening, respectively. Analysis of Ni/Cu Metallization to Investigate an Adhesive Front Contact for Crystalline-Silicon Solar Cells

  • Developing a metallization that has low cost and high efficiency is essential in solar-cell industries, to replace expensive silver-based metallization. Ni/Cu two-step metallization is one way to reduce the cost of solar cells, because the price of copper is about 100 times less than that of silver. Alkaline electroless plating was used for depositing nickel seed layers on the front electrode area. Prior to the nickel deposition process, 2% HF solution was used to remove native oxide, which disturbs uniform nickel plating. In the subsequent step, a nickel sintering process was carried out in $N_2$ gas atmosphere; however, copper was plated by light-induced plating (LIP). Plated nickel has different properties under different bath conditions because nickel electroless plating is a completely chemical process. In this paper, plating bath conditions such as pH and temperature were varied, and the metal layer's structure was analyzed to investigate the adhesion of Ni/Cu metallization. Average adhesion values in the range of 0.2-0.49 N/mm were achieved for samples with no nickel sintering process.
