  • The steel has been used in modern industry, car maker and electric appliance. The steel have some problem, specially corrosion problem. To solve corrosion problem, Zn electrodeposit on steel have been adapted. Recently, The modern industry asks to increase corrosion resistance. Naturally, Increasing corrosion resistance increases the thickness of Zn electrodeposit. But increasing thickness of Zn electrodeposit has some problems. In making part, There are some crack. This crack cause to decrease corrosion resistance. To solve this problem, it is interested in Zn Based alloy electrodeposit such as Zn-Cr. Here, the influence of the electrolytic conditions on the composition of the alloy plating in the chloride bath was investigated. The results are explained by the cathode overvoltage curve of Cr and Zn. As the current density of the cathode increases, Zn content of electrodeposit decrease and Cr content of electrodeposit increase. As the temperature of the electrolyte increases, Zn content of electrodeposit decrease and Cr content of electrodeposit increase.

  • Zn-Ni alloy electrodeposition on steel has been examined by means of X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The effect of current density, $Ni^{2+}$ ion concentration, and $Cl^-$ ion concentration on the structure as well as morphology of the electrodeposit have been studied. The Ni content of the electrodeposit increased with decreasing current density in the range studied in this work. The Ni content of the electrodeposit also increased with increasing $Ni^{2+}$ ion and $Cl^-$ ion concentrations. The structure change of the electrodeposit was closely related to the Ni content. In fact, the mixture phase of ${\eta}$ and ${\gamma}$ was found below 10 wt.% of Ni while the ${\gamma}$ phase only was observed above 10 wt.% of Ni. In addition, the lattice parameter, a, of then phase structure increased and the lattice parameter, c, of it decreased as the Ni content of the electrodeposit increased. The morphology of the electrodeposit varied from the plate-like shape to the fine granular shape depending upon the change in composition and structure of the electrodeposit.

  • The purpose of this experiment was to determind whether the gold electrodeposit on Pd-Ag and Ni-Cr alloys influences on the shear bond strength between veneering resin and silicoated metal surface. All the metal specimens were sandblasted with $250{\mu}m$ aluminum oxide and followed by silicoating and resin veneering. According to the metal surfaces to be veneered, experimental groups were divided into five. Group Prec : Gold alloy without gold coating Group Semi : Pd-Ag alloy without gold coating Group Base : Ni-Cr alloy without gold coating Group Semi-G : Pd-Ag alloy with gold coating Group Base-G : Ni-Cr alloy with gold coating All specimens were thermocycled 1,000 times at temperature of $5^{\circ}C$ to $55^{\circ}C$. The effects of gold electrodeposit on the shear bond strength between resin and metal interface were measured and fractured surface of the resin veneered metal was examined under the scaning electron microscope. The following results were obtained 1. The shear bond strength between resin and metal was $64.51{\pm}11.11Kg/cm^2$ in Prec group, $62.77{\pm}11.23Kg/cm^2$ in Base group and $58.97{\pm}9.20Kg/cm^2$ in Semi Group. There was no significant difference among the groups. 2. The bond strength in groups Semi-G and Base-G decreased about 17%, compared to the nongold-electrodeposit groups(Semi, Base). 3. In groups of non electrodeposit(Prec, Semi, Base), fracture occurred at the interface between alloy and resin, while fracture interface was observed between gold coating and resin in group Semi-G, and between metal substrate and gold coating in group Base-G respectively.

  • The electrodeposition of Zn on the automotive parts has been adapted However, because Zn electrodeposit needs to increase thickness for corrosion protection, it has problem of destruction of electrodeposit Zn-based electrodeposit have teen studied for corrosion protection and decreasing electrodeposit thickness. Especially; Zn-Co electrodeposit have much attention In this study, the Composition of Zn-Co electrodeposit in various manufacturing condition such as temperature, current density and electrolyte content was investigated to understand effect of electrolysis condition on Co content of specimen. The results were explained by cathode overvoltage and diffusion coefficient. As the current density increases, the electrolyte temperature decreases, and as the electrolyte concentration decreases, the overvoltage of the cathode increases. As the overvoltage of the cathode increases, the concentration polarization becomes more important than the activation polarization. Concentration polarization is determined by the diffusion of the mass transfer in the diffusion layer. In a constant concentration polarization, a large amount of elements with a large diffusion coefficient is diffused. That is, as the overvoltage of the cathode increases, the Zn content having a large diffusion coefficient increases.

  • Due to the occasional occurrence of a localizedcorrosion such as a SCC and pitting in steam generator tubing(Alloy 600), leading to a significant economical loss, an effective repair technology is needed. For a successful electrodeposition inside a tube, many processes should be developed. Among these processes, an anode to be installed inside a tube, a degreasing condition to remove any dirt and grease, an activation condition for a surface oxide elimination, a strike layer forming condition which needs to be adhered tightly between an electroforming layer and a parent tube and a condition for an electroforming layer should be established. Through a combination of these various process condition parameters, the desired material properties can be acquired. Among these process parameters, various material properties including a mechanical property and its variation along with the height of the electrodeposit inside a tube as well as its thermal stability and SCC resistance should be assessed for an application in a plant. This work deals with the material properties of the Ni electrodeposits formed inside a tube by using the anode developed in this study such as the current efficiency, hardness, tensile property, thermal stability and SCC behavior of the electrodeposit in a 40wt% NaOH solution at $315^{\circ}C$. It was found that a variation of the material properties within the entire length of the electrodeposit was quite acceptable and the Ni electrodeposit showed an excellent SCC resistance.

  • Theoretical and practical aspects are investigated for electrochemical behavious, plating processes and the structures of electrodeposit of Pb-Sn binary alloy plating through numerous literatures in this report. The anodic and cathodic electrode reaction mechanisms of Pb and Sn could co-deposit and make Pb-Sn alloy deposit from the results of cathode current density-cathode potential curves of Pb, Sn and Pb-Sn alloys in fluoborate solutions. The compositions of the best alloy plating solutions are obtained for the purpose of bearing, anticorrosion and solder plating. In general, the casting anodes of Pb-Sn alloys are used, but separated anodes of Pb and Sn pure metal are used in order to obtain the fine compositions of Pb-Sn alloy deposits. The electrodeposits of Pb-Sn alloy are in nonequilibrium state and saturated solid solutions. Thus, ${\beta}$-phase (Sn-phase) is precipitated by heat treatment. The texture and structure of the electrodeposit are associated with the surface energies of deposit lattice planes and with the cathode polarization. The electrodeposit of Pb-Sn alloy is shown as lamellar structure.

  • Effects of additives and plating conditions of high speed electroplating were investigated. The Sn content in electrodeposit was highly decreased with increasing current density from $10A/dm^2$ to $50A/dm^2$, and the current efficiency on the cathode was decreased. The carbon content in the electrodeposit was decreased with increasing current density from $10A/dm^2$ to $30A/dm^2$, however the carbon content was highly increased in the range of $40A/dm^2$$∼50A/dm^2$. The formation of tetravalent tin and stannic oxide sludge was prevented by the addition of gallic acid in the bath. The changing of Sn content in the electrodeposit is caused by the addition of gallic acid.

  • A numerical simulation based on the finite element method is used to investigate the effect of a reciprocal paddle on the uniformity of deposition rates at a patterned electrode. The calculated deposition rates agreed well with the measured values. The influences of the paddle velocity, the gap between cathodes and paddles, anode size and the distance between the anode and cathode have been studied. The optimum conditions on the paddle and geometric factors for electrodeposit uniformity could be obtained.

  • Nanocomposites consisting of a nanocrystalline brass matrix (grain size ; 20-100nm) with sub-micron sized Al2O3 particles (60-200nm) were prepared by pulsed current electrodeposition. The microhardness of the nanocomposite with a grain size of 90-100nm was approximately 1.7 times higher than that of a comparable electrodeposit with no particles. However, significant variations in microhardness were not observed between the nanocomposites with grain sizes of 20 nm and the comparable electrodeposit.

  • In the industry, Zn galvanizing on the steel using the principle of sacrificial anode is used. The steel have some problem, specially corrosion problem. To solve corrosion problem, Zn-Mn alloy plating has been studied as one of the measures to increase the corrosion resistance rather than pure zinc plating. It is possible to be applied to automotive parts requiring high corrosion resistance even though the plating cost is high. In this study, Zn-Mn alloys were electrodeposited from an acidic chloride bath. The influence of the electrolytic conditions on the composition of the alloy plating in the chloride bath was investigated. As the current density of the cathode increases, Zn content of electrodeposit decrease and Mn content of electrodeposit increase. As the temperature of the electrolyte increases, Zn content of electrodeposit decrease and Mn content of electrodeposit increase. The results are explained by the cathode overvoltage curve of Mn and Zn.
