This work presents a correlation between the behavior of formic acid oxidation (FAO) on various Bi-modified Pt(poly) disk electrodes and their morphologies observed on Bi-modified Pt(111) disk electrodes using electrochemical scanning tunneling microscopy (EC-STM) to understand the effects of Bi on Pt. To distinguish the FAO activities of Bi on Pt and plain Pt around Bi, additional Pt was intentionally deposited using two different routes: direct route and iodine route. In direct route, Pt was directly deposited on Bi islands and plain Pt sites around Bi islands, while in iodine route, Pt was exclusively deposited on Bi islands by protecting plain Pt sites with adsorbed iodine. Thus, a comparison of FAO performances on the two Bi-modified Pt electrodes with additional Pt (deposited in the different ways) disclosed a difference in FAO performances on plain Pt sites and Bi islands. When Bi coverage was ~0.04, the Bi deposits were scattered Bi islands enhancing FAO on Pt(poly). The additional Pt deposits using direct route increased FAO efficiency, while the ones using iodine route slightly decreased FAO current. The EC-STM observations indicated that Pt deposits around Bi islands, not on Bi islands, were responsible for the FAO current increase on Bi-modified Pt(poly). The FAO efficiency on Bi-modified Pt(poly) with a Bi coverage of ~0.25 increased by a factor of 2. However, the additional Pt deposits using the two Pt deposition routes notably decreased the FAO current. The dependency of FAO on Bi coverage was discussed in terms of electronic effect and ensemble effect.
To treat livestock wastewater effectively by electrochemical method using a stainless steel electrode or au aluminum electrode, the effects of voltage, distance of electrodes and PACS(Poly Aluminum Chloride Silicate) dosage on removals of pollutants in batch experiment for investigation the optimum treatment conditions of livestock wastewater were investigated. The results were summarized as follows ; On the effect of voltage, temperature and pH in electrochemical reactor were increased with increase in voltage but EC was a reverse in both electrodes. Removals of COD and T-N were increased with increase in voltage in both electrodes. SS removal was greater than 90% regardless of voltage without doing electrochemical reaction over 15min at 20V or 12min at 30V in both electrodes. T-P removal was over 90% regardless of voltage in both electrodes. On the effect of distance between two electrodes, removals of COD, T-N and T-P were increased with closeness in distance between two electrodes, and SS removal was greeter than 90% regardless of distance between two electrodes in both electrodes. On the effect of PACS dosage, removals of COD, T-N and T-P were increased with increased in PACS dosage up to 200㎎/l in both electrodes. SS removal was greater than 90% regardless of PACS dosage in both electrodes.

The new type polymer electrolyte composed of polyacrylonitrile(PAN) baed polymer electrolyte contain LiClO$_4$-EC/PC and LiPF$\sub$6/-EC/PC were developed for the weightless and long or life time of lithium polymer battery system with using polyaniline electrode. The gel type electrolytes were prepared by PAN at different lithium salts in the glove box. We prepared for polymer electrolyte with knife casting method. The minimum thickness of PAN gel electrolyte for the slim type is about <400∼500$\mu\textrm{m}$. These gel electrolytes showed good compatibility with lithium electrode. The test cell of Li/polymer electrolyte/Lithium cobalt oxide solid state cell which was prepared by different lithium salt was researched by electrochemical technique. Resistance of polymer electrolyte which consist of LiClO$_4$ is more less than that of LiPF$\sub$6/ and cycle life is more longer than that of LiPF$\sub$6/.

The purpose of this study is to research and develop solid polymer electrolyte(SPE) for Li polymer battery. The temperature dependence of conductivity impedance spectroscopy and electrochemical properties of PDF/PAN electrolytes as a function of a mixed ratio were reported for PVDF/PAN based polymer electrolyte films which were prepared by thermal gellification method of preweighed PVDF/PAN plasticizer and Li salt. The conductivity of PVDF/PAN electrolytes was 10$\^$-3/S/cm. 20PVDF5PEN LiCiO$\_$4//PC$\_$10//EC$\_$10/ electrolyte has the better conductivity compared to others. 20PVDF5PANLICIO$\_$4//PC$\_$10//EC$\_$10/ electroylte remains stable up to 5V vs. Li/Li$\^$+/. Steady state current method and ac impedance were used for the determination of transference numbers in PVDF/PAN electrolyte film. The transference number of 20PVDF5PANLiCO$\^$4//PC$\_$10//EC$\_$10/ electrolyte is 0.48.

This study investigates the requirements of lithium-air cathodes, which directly influence discharge capacity. The cathodes of Li-air cell are made by using five different carbon materials, such as Ketjen black EC600JD, Super P, Ketjen black EC300JD, Denka black, and Ensaco 250G. The Ketjen black EC600JD provides discharge capacity of 2600 mAh/g per carbon weight, while that of Ensaco 250G shows only 579 mAh/g. To figure out the differences of discharge capacity from carbon materials, their surface area and pore volume are analyzed. These are found out to be the critical factors in determining discharge capacity. Furthermore, carbon loading on Ni foam and amounts of electrolyte are significant factors that affect discharge capacity. In order to investigate catalyst effect, electrolytic manganese dioxide (EMD) is incorporated and delivered 4307 mAh/g per carbon weight. This infers that EMD facilitates to break $O_2$ interactions and leads to enhance discharge capacity.

In general, organic electrochromic (EC) materials have been known to be electrochemically unstable during the ionic exchange process. One effective method to realize stable EC materials is incorporating graphene derivatives in the polymer matrix, by using the strong interaction between graphene derivatives and polymer. However, previous studies are limited graphene derivatives. In this study, we developed a polymer-graphene derivative complex with the chemical assistance of a surfactant (octadecylamine, ODA). Surfactant-assisted graphene oxide (GO-ODA) was introduced as a protective layer on the electrochromic poly (3-hexyl thiophene) (P3HT) films by the Langmuir-Schaefer method. The deposition of GO-ODA protective layer with high coverage was confirmed by atomic force microscopy. The strong interactions between GO-ODA and P3HT were examined with UV-Vis spectrophotometry and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Electrochemical and electrochromic investigations revealed that the GO-ODA layer greatly improved the long-term cyclability of the P3HT film. These findings imply that the GO-ODA complex has a significant role in creating stable EC cycling, due to its strong interaction with the P3HT film.

In this study, silicon/carbon nanotube/carbon (Si/CNT/C) composites for anode were prepared to improve the volume expansion of silicon used as a high-capacity anode material. Si/CNT were prepared by electrostatic attraction of the positively charged Si and negatively charged CNT and then hydrothermal synthesis was performed to obtain the spherical Si/CNT/C composites. Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF), polyacrylic acid (PAA), and styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) were used as binders for electrode preparation, and coin cell was assembled using 1.0 M LiPF6 (EC:DMC:EMC = 1:1:1 vol%) electrolyte and fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC) additive. The physical properties of Si/CNT/C anode materials were analyzed using SEM, EDS, XRD and TGA, and the electrochemical performances of lithium-ion batteries were investigated by charge-discharge cycle, rate performance, dQ/dV and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy tests. Also, it was confirmed that both capacity and rate performance were significantly improved using the PAA/SBR binder and 10 wt% FEC-added electrolyte. It is found that Si/CNT/C have the reversible capacity of 914 mAh/g, the capacity retention ratio of 83% during 50 cycles and the rate performance of 70% in 2 C/0.1 C.
This study assessed an application of electrocoagulation (EC) for the removal of cobalt (Co) in radioactive liquid waste from nuclear power plant. The EC process is an electrochemical means to remove a contaminant in wastewater and a novel process to complement the disadvantage of chemical treatment and membrane process. Radioactive liquid waste has been produced from washing process of radio nuclide power plant cooling system. The EC process eliminates Co from the electrolyte within 10 min; in addition, the dewatered sludge produced in EC process is only 0.2 g. Therefore, the EC process is a promising technique for the removal of Co in radioactive liquid waste and volume reduction of wastes.

In the present study, vanadium oxide($V_2O_5$) films for electrochromic(EC) application are fabricated using sol-gel spin coating method. In order to optimize the EC performance of the $V_2O_5$ films, we adjust the amounts of polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP) added to the solution at 0, 5, 10, and 15 wt%. Due to the effect of added PVP on the $V_2O_5$ films, the obtained films show increases of film thickness and crystallinity. Compared to other samples, optimum weight percent(10 wt%) of PVP led to superior EC performance with transmittance modulation(45.43 %), responding speeds(6.0 s at colored state and 6.2 s at bleached state), and coloration efficiency($29.8cm^2/C$). This performance improvement can be mainly attributed to the enhanced electrical conductivity and electrochemical activity due to the increased crystallinity and thickness of the $V_2O_5$ films. Therefore, $V_2O_5$ films fabricated with optimized amount of PVP can be a promising EC material for high-performance EC devices.
Carbonaceous thin films were prepared from acetylene and argon gases by plasma assisted chemical vapor deposition (Plasma CVD) at 873 K. The carbonaceous thin films were characterized by mainly Raman spectroscopy, and their electrochemical properties were studied by cyclic voltammetry and charge-discharge measurements in propylene carbonate (PC) solution. Raman spectra showed that crystallinity of carbonaceous thin films is correlated by the applied RF power. The difference of the applied RF power also affected on the results of cyclic voltammetry and charge-discharge measurements. In PC solution, intercalation and de-intercalation of lithium ion can occur as well as in the mixed solution of EC and DEC.
