A Study on the Design on Iron-Core Shape for Superconducting Hybrid Electro-Magnet System (초전도 하이브리드 자기부상 마그넷 시스템의 코어 형상 설계 연구)

  • This paper deals with the design on iron-core shape for superconducting hybrid electromagnet (SH-EM). A proto-type SH-EM was developed by Yonsei University. It is the first step study on the fundamental technology for advanced railroad system development. We proposed the method that reduce the number of cooling systems in order to improve operating efficiency of the SH-EM. The results was obtained by changing of iron-core shape were verified by the FEM analysis. This paper can be expected to suggest useful data for an advanced SH-EM.

  • In this paper, we propose a precise parameter extraction of interior permanent magnet (IPM) motors based on finite element analysis. For the calculation of the two-axis inductances Ld and Lq, the slotting effect and cross magnetization due to torque angle are considered. It is examined that back electro-motive force (BEMF) constant is affected by the magnetic saturation in different ways dependent on motor types. Numerical analyses and some measurements are performed for a spoke type and a flux barrier type IPM motors

  • A discontinuity of magnetic circuits according to the end effect is generated in PMLSM. And magnetic state of the 3 phase coils becomes unbalanced. Due to the unbalanced magnetic state, the unbalanced flux linkage, back electro-magnetic force and inductance of the 3 phase coils appear. In result, the circulating current is generated by unbalanced inductance even if the input voltages are in balanced state. Then the thrust and efficiency are decreased because of the circulating current. Therefore, in this paper, the unbalanced inductance and the thrust reduction according to discontinuity of magnetic circuits are analyzed by FEA(2D). To demonstrate the validity of the analysis results, the experiment results are compared with analysis results.

  • This paper describes research results for the measurement and analysis method of magnetic signatures generated from the ship's magnetic mock-up model. In this paper, we present the theoretical and experimental techniques for the separation of the permanent and the induced magnetic field from the measured magnetic signature of the mock-up model. Also, we describe the prediction method of the induced magnetic field generated from mock-up model using the Magnet s/w, one of the FEM analysis tools for the electro-magnetic field and the magnetic dipole modelling method based on the least square techniques. The proposed modelling and analysis methods can be used for the prediction and the analysis of the static magnetic field generated from the real naval ship as well as the mock-up model.

  • The increment of electric power demand causes interest on new higher power system such as 42V Power Net, and furthermore necessity for development of energy storage device is highlighted recently. Owing to high efficiency and easy speed control of brushless DC(BLDC) motor, the demand of BLDC motor that has high power and low noises are increasing. Especially demand of interior permanent magnet(IPM) type BLDC with high efficiency and high power in electric motion vehicle is increasing. This paper presents the design of the BLBC motor for EHPS(Electro-Hydraulic Power Steering) in 42V system and verified the characteristics by simulation and test results.

  • This paper presents electro-magnetic characteristics of an Interior type Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) for traction applications. The importance of instantaneous electric propulsion capability for high torque has been highlighted in the present study and thus parametric analysis is performed by Finite Element Method (FEM). The paper provides analytical & experimental results, which demonstrate a performance of the studied traction motor The goal of this paper is to present a maximum power performance for traction motor which works extension of its own rated power. Experimental results meet well with FEM analysis of traction motor owing to inductance difference.

  • The levitation system of Maglev is composed with electro-magnet, power supplier, controller and sensor. The complex interactions between above subcomponents define the characteristics of electromagnetic suspension of the vehicle. In this study, to understand the influence of controller on the running performance of Maglev, the new controller based on LQ theory will be designed and be simulated with simplified vehicle model. Then the influence of controller on the characteristics of electromagnetic suspension will be reviewed through comparison with existing control algorithm of our prototype vehicle.

  • A robust control technique is presented for a high performance control of a permanent-magnet(PM) synchronous motor. In order to deal with the internal and external disturbances of a PM synchronous motor drive system, a new feedback control structure is proposed. Since the dynamic behavior of the PM synchronous motor drive system is mainly concerned with the difference between the electro-magnetically developed torque and the load torque which generally referred to as an accelerating torque, the estimation and control techniques of this torque are introduced. The simulations and experiments are carried out for the DSP-based PM synchronous motor drive system and the results well demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control technique.

  • It is important to diminish noise source of an electric motor used in appliances. We studied on the noise reduction of BLDC motor to drive a fan. Especially, this study was focused on detent torque caused by interaction between a permanent magnet of rotor and groove in stator. This source and rotating system brought about a resonance. This paper showed that the higher harmonic component of this torque had a main factor to lessen noise. So, we had designed new magnets with shape like a peanut and pseudo-sinusoidal flux density for low-noise BLDC motor in refrigerator.

  • We made a high-speed motor and a DC brush-less motor for factory automation (FA) to investigate applicability of powder magnetic core to motor application, and compared those performances with the similar motors having conventional electro magnetic steel core. Permeability and saturated magnetization of powder magnetic core are less than those of elect romagnetic steel core, however output performances of each core motor are almost the same. The FA motor with powder magnetic core using three-dimensional magnetic circuit showed higher torque than the same volume motor with electromag netic steel core.
