A Study on the Selection of a Bidding Parameter at the Bidding Function Model in an Electricity Market (공급함수 입찰모형에서 입찰파라미터 선택에 관한 연구)

  • Generation companies(Genco) submit the supply functions as a bidding function to a bid market in a competitive electricity market. The profits of Gencos vary in accordance with the bid functions, so the selection of a bidding function plays a key role in increasing their profits. This paper presents an analysis of the selection of the supply function from the viewpoint of Nash equilibrium(NE). Four types of bidding function parameters are used for analizing the electricity market. The competition of selecting bidding parameters is modeled as subgame and overall game in this research. The NEs in both game are computed by using analytic method and payoff matrix method. It is verified in case studies for the NE of overall game to satisfy the equilibrium condition.

  • Recently, electricity demand of remote islands in Korea has been rapidly increased. It's mainly due to increase of income level resulted from economic development. Electricity demand patterns and characteristics in remote islands are different from those of mainland in point of time of peak load, demographic and industrial characteristics of islands, and so on. The optimal power supply in remote islands has a important relationship with accurate analysis of island's load characteristics, the adoption of relevant load forecasting technique, and optimal power facilities reflecting local's electricity demand characteristics. This paper shows the recent load pattern and characteristics, load forecasting using probability distribution, and the perpetration of relevant power facilities in remote islands.

  • The electricity supply and demand to be stable to a system link increase of the variance power supply and operation are requested in jeju Island electricity system. A short-term Load forecasting which uses the characteristic of the Load is essential consequently. We use the interrelationship of the electricity Load and change of a summertime temperature and data refining in the paper. We presented a short-term Load forecasting algorithm of jeju Island and used the correlation coefficient to the criteria of the refining. We used each temperature area data to be refined and forecasted a short-term Load to an exponential smoothing method.

  • South Korea's power consumption is increasing every year. For stable electric power supply, more generation facilities are needed. But it is not easy to build nuclear power generation facilities, so provision of renewable energy is thought of as the solution. For the system's stable management, practical use of energy storing system is needed. Currently, pumping up electric power station is considered most useful. In this study, we have calculated the least amount of energy storing device by considering the renewable energy, HVDC, and change in power for the appliance of ESS in Jeju system, according to The 6th Basic Plan for Long-term Electricity Supply and Demand. Also we have calculated the amount of the battery and about the load equalizing effect to use battery as power storing device. Finally, we have calculated the reduction of electricity generation and the reduction of $CO_2$ emission with this study.

  • RPS(Renewable Portfolio Standards) is an institutional device to promote use of renewable energy through market mechanism by making renewable energy to constitute a pre-announced portion of the electricity production. We measure economic impacts of the introduction of RPS to domestic electricity market at the levels of electricity market, individual industrial sectors and the economy as a whole. First, we examine the TREC(Tradable Renewable Energy Credits) market, where the credits in excess of the obligation of the renewable energy production are sold to those who have to meet the obligation through purchased credits. We then measure end-users' additional cost originating from the introduction of RPS and TREC in electricity production, and their impacts on price and supply in the retail electricity market. Next, using input-output analysis, we measure economic impacts of the changes in retail price and supply on individual industrial sectors and the economy as a whole. Among many others, we find small price effect and large GDP effect - sectoral electricity price rises at around 5%, sectoral price level rises by 0.258%, and sectoral GDP declines by 1.940% on average by the year 2011.

  • It is very important for electric utility to expand generating facilities and transmission equipments in accordance with the increase of electricity demand. Regional electricity demand forecasting is among the most important step for long-term investment and power supply planning. The main objectives of this paper are to develop the methodologies for forecasting regional load demand. The Model consists of four models, regional economy, regional electricity energy demand, areal electricity energy demand. and areal peak load demand. This paper mainly suggests regional electricity energy demand model and areal peak load demand. A case study is also presented.

  • Combined heat and power (CHP) system is one of the power generation system which can generate both electricity and heat. Generally, mid-size and big-size CHP plant in Korea generate electricity from gas turbine and steam turbine, then supply heat from exhaust gas. Actually, CHP can supply heat using district heater which is located at low pressure turbine exit or inlet. When the district heater locates after low pressure turbine, which called back pressure type turbine, there need neither condenser nor mode change operating control logic. When the district heater locates in front of low pressure turbine or uses low pressure turbine extraction steam flow, which calls condensing type turbine, which kind of turbine requires condenser. In this case, mode change operation methods are used for generating maximum electricity or maximum heat according to demanding the seasonal electricity and heat.

  • The global warming of the Korean Peninsula proceeds most rapidly in the world and its abnormal climate is more deepening. In the result of the surged electricity consumption by intense heat of summer and severe cold of winter, electricity supply and demand status is in hard situation. Currently, the supply of natural gas is increased because natural gas has the lowest greenhouse-gas emissions among the existed fossil fuel. Natural gas cooling has a lot of advantage such as decreasing electricity peak, reducing construction expenses in additional power plant, operating natural gas storage facilities efficiently, and playing a role as distributed generations. Therefore, this study analyzes the economic feasibilities of gas cooling as an alternative for electric power load management.

  • According to the rapid depletion of the fossil fuels, the electricity and hydrogen will gradually take charge of the future energy supply. Especially, in order to control the supply and demand of electricity, energy storage medium is necessary and this could be solved by the combination of water electrolysis and fuel cell. Although electricity can be generated from such alternative energies as hydropower, nuclear, solar, and wind-power resources, alternative energy storage medium is also required since regenerative energies, solar and wind-powers, are intermittent energy resources. In this regard, hydrogen production from water electrolysis was recognized as a superb method for electricity storage. In this work, the current development and economic status of alkaline, solid polymer, and high temperature electrolysis were reviewed, and then the practical use of water electrolysis technology were discussed.
