  • In electric Industry, the improvement of load factor by flattening load has been considered to be more important than any other tasks and has received wide concern and interest. Especially while annual peak load had occurred early evening in winter during past decades, but we found the trend has changed so that annual peak load occurred during the daytime in summer since 1981. In this paper we introduce various method for the load management.

  • Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) with capability of being recharged from the power-grid will reduce oil consumption. Also, the PHEV will affect the utility operations by adding additional electricity demand for charging. In this research, the power-grid impact by demand of PHEV charging is presented and the optimal charging control strategy for utility operators is proposed with simulated data. The penetration of PHEV is assumed to be 50% in the circumstances of Korean passenger car market and Korean power-grid market limitedly. To obtain smooth load shape and utilize the surplus electricity in power-grid at midnight and dawn, the peak of charging demand should be controlled to be located before 4:00 a.m., and the time slot which can supply the electricity power to PHEV should be allowed between 1:00 a.m.$\sim$7:00 a.m.

  • Along with fusion energy, photovoltaic solar energy conversion has long been considered as one of the few sustainable options for large scale energy supply in the future. In the past, commercial use has been restricted largely to remote area applications where conventional electricity is expensive. However, 1998 marked a year of transition where the major application of the cells changed to become generation of residential electricity in urban areas already supplied by the conventional grid. The current state of the technology is discussed as are major overseas programs to accelerate the urban residential use of photovoltaics, particularly in Japan, Europe and the United States, includng the "million roof" program in the latter. Finally, the planned use of photovoltaics in the Sydney 2000 Olympics is described, where the technology will be used to provide most of the electricity requirements of the 665 residences which will be a legacy of the Olympic Village.

  • This paper presents database for electricity demand-side management. Demand-Side Management(DSM) refers to programs that influence the usage of energy for improved economic efficiency and reduced environmental impact DSM can be looked upon as a tool for energy utilities to find resources on the demand side instead of on the supply side, or as a more general tool for society to better use and distribute scarce resources. In this paper, we construct the database for electricity demand-side management and apply it to residential and commercial sector.

  • The procurement of generation and transmission/Distribution capacity in vertically-integrated electric industry is sufficient by facility construction in suitable time. However, the introduction of competitive electricity market increase the efficiency of availability for facilities and fuels. As a result, long-term capacity procurement is required for stable demand-supply balance since it is expected to maintain their generation capacity at a minimum for profit maximization. In this paper, a new long-term capacity procurement mechanism is proposed, which is able to assure supplemental contribution in competitive electricity market.

  • This paper presents a new approach for the evaluation of location marginal prices (LMPs) considering demand-side bidding (DSB) in a competitive electricity market. The stabilization of the electric power supply and demand balance is one of the major important activities in electric power industry. In this paper, we present an analytical method for calculation of LMPs considering DSB, which has opportunity to compete with generating units, as England & Wales Pool's DSB scheme[1]. Also, we propose a new approach that LMP considering DSB is divided into three components. The proposed approach can be used for the evaluation of demand-side bidding into the electricity market and the assessment of the influence of DSB on total production costs and LMPs as well as three components.

  • The Distribution Network costs are currently part of the total cost of KEPCO covered through aggregated final consumer tariffs. There is no unbundling of Power Sale and Distribution Network activities. This situation will change with the introduction of competition in supply. The Distribution Network Service Providers will have to provide access and set explicitly Distribution Service Charges in order to enable the Power Sales Businesses to convey electricity to their consumers using the Distribution Network for these purposes. The Distribution Service Charges will be made up of Distribution Connection Charge and Distribution Use of Network Charge. The Distribution Losses will be considered through Distribution Loss Factors and included in the electricity purchased by the Power Sales Businesses.

  • In India, continuous production of electricity and sweet/potable water from Solar power and desalination plant plays a major role in the industries. Particularly in Copper industry, Solar power adopts Solar field collector combined with thermal storage system and steam Boiler, Turbine & Generator (BTG) for electricity production and desalination plant adopts Reverse osmosis (RO) for sweet/potable water production which cannot be used for long hours of power generation and consistency of energy supply for industrial processes and power generation cannot be ensured. This paper presents an overview of enhanced technology for Solar power and Desalination plant for Copper industry making it continuous production of electricity and sweet/potable water. The conventional technology can be replaced with this proposed technique in the existing and upcoming industries.

  • Recently, all-electric house technology became one of the green growth technologies and is integrated with various areas such as electricity, machinery, architecture, material, and etc. Fossil fuel energy is used for heating and hot water supply in the conventional houses but electricity is adopted in the new conceptual houses to maximize advantages of electricity such as amenity, safety, cleanness, and so on. In this paper, an economic analysis is carried out when LED lightings are adopted using the California Standard Practice Test which has been used to estimate the effects of existing DSM (Demand Side Management) programs. The results are able to contribute to the diffusion of all-electric houses and the establishment of basic data and planning for DSM policies.
