Effect of Interference from DC Power Supply on Power Line Communication Channel (전력선 통신 채널에서 직류전원 공급장치의 간섭 영향)

  • Power line communications can be utilized to build up the data transmission network wherever the electricity is available. This type of communication system could provide a basis for the network construction in many application areas which include the smart grid and home networks. On the other hand the power line communication is vulnerable to various types of interferences and noises. Also, its channel characteristics are constantly changing depending on the type and the amount of electrical loads connected to the network. Especially, the usage of DC power supply has been increased due to the explosive expansion of smart devices in our daily lives which result in the increased level of interferences on the power line channel. In this paper, the effect of the operation of the DC power supplies on the channel characteristics and the data transmission performance is analyzed through the experiments.

  • The adhesive-tape of a liquid leak film sensor including the alarm system is developed. The sensing film is composed of three layers such as base film layer, conductive line layer, and protection film layer. The thickness of film is 300~500 um, the width is 3.55 cm, and the unit length is 200 m. On the conductive line layer, three conducting lines and one resistive line are formulated by the electronic printing method with a conducting ink of silver-nano size. When a liquid leaks for the electricity to be conducted between the conductive line and the resistive line, the position of leakage is monitored by measuring the voltage varied according to the change of resistance between two lines. The error range of sensing position of 200 m film sensor is ${\pm}1m$.

  • Korea is experiencing a rapid increase in electricity consumption due to rapid economic development, and many power transmission towers are installed to provide smooth power supply. The high-voltage transmission line is mainly made of aluminum stranded wire, and the wire is loosely guided so that some deflection is maintained. The degree of deflection has a great influence on the quality of the construction and the life of the cable. As the time passes, the shrinkage and expansion occur repeatedly due to the weight of the cable and the surrounding environment. Therefore, periodic monitoring is essential for the management of the power transmission line. In this study, the power transmission lines were monitored using 3D laser scanning technology. The data of the power transmission line of the study area was acquired and the point cloud type 3D geospatial information of the transmission line was extracted through data processing. The length of the transmission line and deflection amount were calculated using the 3D geospatial information of the transmission line, and the distance from the surrounding obstacles could be calculated effectively. The result of study shows the utilization of 3D laser scanning technology for transmission line management. Future research will contribute to the efficiency of transmission line management if a transmission line monitoring system using 3D laser scanning technology is developed.

Design of Self-Starting Hybrid Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Connected Directly to Line

  • In view of the current state of the reserves of electric energy generated resources and the share of electric motors in electricity consumption, many researches and studies related to efficiency in electric motors are being made. The presented work is related to the Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (AF-PMSM), which has recently undergone significant work based on the development of magnet and motor technology. In this study, a novel AF-PMSM was designed analytically through Finite Element Method (FEM) which can be started by connecting to a line such as an asynchronous motor in a transient state and can operate with high efficiency and power factor after synchronization in steady state without the need for an expensive motor drive. According to the obtained FEM results, a design with an efficiency class of IE4 of 5.5 kW shaft power, a 4 poles motor was obtained. As a result, economic calculations indicate that the extra cost of the designed Line start AF-PMSM with respect to the asynchronous motor is rapidly compensated by energy saving due to a more efficient operation, especially constant speed operations. As a result of the analysis obtained, the targeted values are reached. For induction motors and radial flux permanent magnet synchronous motors, a good alternative motor that can operate with high efficiency and power factor has been obtained.

A Study on a Substation Static Load Model Including the Mobility of a Railway Load (철도 부하의 이동성을 반영한 변전소 정태부하모델링 수립에 대한 연구)

  • Nowadays, it is expected that mobility loads such as electric railways and electric vehicles will be penetrated gradually and affect on the power system stability by their load characteristics. Various researches have been carried out about electric vehicles for the recent decade though the load of electric railway could be forecasted because of the specified path and timetable, is a field with a long historic background. Some precise 5th polynomial equations are required to analyze the power system stability considering mobility load to be increased in the immediate future while the electric railway dispatching simulator uses load models with constant power and constant impedance for the system analysis. In this paper, seasonal urban railway load models are established as the form of 5th polynomial equations and substation load modeling methods are proposed merging railway station load models and general load models. Additionally, load management effects by the load modeling are confirmed through the case studies, in which seasonal load models are developed for Seoul Subway Line No. 2, Gyeongui Line and Airport Railroad and the substation load change is analyzed according to the railway load change.

  • ZnO varistor for transmission class arrester$({\Phi}65{\times}20mm)$ of 10kA(Class 3) grade was recently developed in korea and is tested for the properties by switching surge operating duty test to know the line discharge class and complex surge property in electric properties. To find out changing rate of residual voltage before and after lightning impulse residual voltage testing, the sample is cool to room temperature after finishing switching surge operating duty test, and the rate is good as 1.0~1.7%. The element had been considered as applicable ZnO varistor for electricity transmission from the test results of state conterl, switching surge operating duty, thermal stability and above test. But various test should be required for actual application because this is a part of the to be needed for application.

  • As the industry develops, they are interested in the fault of electric machines and the effect on human beings by electromagnetic fields and waves which generate through much use of electric machines and appliances. In foreign country, they confirmed the standard about electromagnetic interference and compatibility(EMI/EMC) of electromagnetic fields and waves generating electricity transmission/distribution equipments and electric appliance. In Korea, such criteria are applied too. Before EMI/EMC standard is applied, it is important to prepare the plan to predict and reduce electromagnetic fields and waves which generate in the inner and the outer part of electric machinery. To solve such a problem, they calculated Maxwell's equations by finite element method(FEM) and finite difference method(FDM) in most papers. However, these methods have the disadvantage that mathematical expansions are complex and need much memory allocations for grid and mesh generations. In this paper, we introduce transmission line matrix(TLM) method that media of which trains consists are regarded as transmission lines for electromagnetic field calculation in Korean High Speed Train, calculate the electric and magnetic field, and analyze the results.

Calculation Method of Modification Factors for Fault Location Algorithm Using Boosting Current of Operating Electric Train in AT Feeding System (AT급전계통에서 실제 운행 중인 전기기관차 부하를 이용한 고장점 표정 알고리즘 보정계수 산출 방법)

  • In general, a fault locator is installed in Sub-Station of AT(Auto-transformer) feeding system to estimate the fault location and to protect the Korean AT feeding system. Since the line impedance characteristic is different to normal 3-phase transmission line, we need particular modification factors, which can be calculated using fault location recording data, to estimate the accurate fault location. Up to recently, forcible ground test has been used to calculate the modification factors of the fault locator. However, large amount of current is occurred when the forcible ground test is performed, and this current affects to adjacent equipments. Therefore, we proposed a novel calculation method of modification factors, arbitrary trip test, using boosting current of the operating electric train. Through several field test, we confirmed that modification factors for fault locator can be easily calculated by using proposed method. Moreover, we verified the accuracy and stability of the proposed calculation method.

  • In the station of the railway and the subway various illumination equipment and a general power equipment for a passenger convenience, the signal equipment and the communication equipment which is necessary to the train operation provided. At the all of like this equipment from the electric room which is established in each station by changing from high voltage to low voltage and it supplies from the illumination transformer, the power transformer and the signal transformer. If it supplies to the equipment from the high voltage to the low voltage, it must be established to contact protection device in between the high voltage coil and the low voltage coil. Also it must do the grounding faulting device at the low voltage lines, the earthing devices at apparatus for the protection of an electric shock and an electric fire by the electric relation law. Compared the related regulations between the facilities which require protective functions such as grounding fault or earthing in public utilities like subway stations, and the facilities which do not require line earthing or protective functions such as electricity supplied for signalling the train. Also, will describe a countermeasure for the accident from a grounding fault.

Characterization and Field Measurements of NB-PLC for LV Network

  • This paper presents a procedure for field measurements which provides a generalized Narrowband Power Line Communications (NB-PLC) channel model for low voltage (LV) access network in order to deploy advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) within Lahore, Pakistan. The measurements of allocated sites were performed in the residential (urban and rural), industrial and commercial electricity consumers for the NB-PLC channel modeling of overhead transmission lines (TLs). On the basis of extensive field measurement results, the average attenuation profile and transfer functions are presented. The results obtained from field measurements are validated by comparing them with a proposed Simulink model. A close agreement in the measured and simulated transfer function (TF) results is observed. The proposed Simulink model is an effort to model the NB-PLC channels in an effective way, especially in South Asian countries.
