  • In order to apply the partial discharge measuring technique utilizing electrical pulse to the transformer at sites, this paper describes the measuring technique obtaining only the signals due to internal partial discharge in the transformer, but the noises due to external corona which has been a major problem so far. At first, partial discharge and corona noise were simultaneously generated in the model transformer by using needle-plane electrodes and rod-sphere electrodes out of it in a high voltage laboratory, respectively. It was verified that only the partial discharge signals in the transformer could be measured by removing the noise signals from the superposed signals of partial discharges and noises on the grounding wire of the model transformer. By application to a 345kV transformer in service, it was also confirmed that the partial discharge could be on-line monitored by removing the noise signals measured by the inductance sensor on the grounding wire of a 154kV lightning arrester from the superposed signals of internal partial discharge and external corona noise measured by bushing tap coupler of the transformer.

  • The issues of preventive and condition-based maintenance, online monitoring, system fault detection, diagnosis, and prognosis are of increasing importance. This study introduces a technique to detect and identify faults in induction motors. Stator currents were measured and stored by time domain. The time domain is not suitable for representing current signals, so wavelet transform is used to convert the signal; onto frequency domain. The raw signals can not show the significant feature, therefore difference values are applied. The difference values were transformed by wavelet transform and the features are extracted from the transformed signals. The dynamic time warping method was used to identify the four fault types. This study describes the results of detecting fault using wavelet analysis.

  • Every movement, perception and thought we perform is associated with distinct neural activation patterns. Neurons in the brain communicate with each other by sending electrical impulses that produce currents. These currents give rise to electrical fields that can be measured outside the head. It shows some variation on the electroencephalographic signals. In recent devices, the EEG signals measured from head surface are a sum of all the momentary brain activation. With these EEG signals, it is difficult to distinguish the patterns correlated with a certain event from the signals. However, the system must discriminate some patterns with some events especially for any kind of device as a brain control interface system. In this experiment, the sensory-motor cortex of humans has been extensively studied. Activation related to several movements on both sides of the sensory-motor cortices in imaginary. The activation patterns during imagination of several movements resemble the activation patterns during preparation of movements. The result represents the system based on the optimal filters discriminated at least 60% of mental imageries.

  • Signal processing techniques based on fractional order calculus have been successfully applied in analyzing heavy-tailed non-Gaussian signals. It was found that the surface EMG signals from the muscles having nuero-muscular disease are best modeled by using the heavy-tailed non-gaussian random processes. In this regard, this paper describes an application of digital fractional order lowpass differentiators(FOLPD, weighted FOLPD) based on the fractional order calculus in detecting peaks of surface EMG signal. The performances of the FOLPD and WFOLPD are analyzed based on different filter length and varying MUAP wave shape from recorded and simulated surface EMG signals. As a results, the WFOLPD showed better SNR improving factors than the existing WLPD and to be more robust under the various surface EMG signals.

  • GIS equipment has problems on confidence according to long-time usage, development of diagnosis technique has been importantly recognized accordingly. Therefore. measurement and analysis of PD has been generally used much equipment of GIS. But, in case of measurement of PD at field, real trouble signals are difficult to classify noise. Accordingly, a variety of trouble conditions for DS were simulated, and detected signals were analyzed by the application of electrical and mechanical methods. For this analysis, detected signals were accumulated according to phase-magnitude with the application of Induction sensor, and then we analyzed the characteristics. For the simulation experiment, we made DS for 170kV GIS and analyzed the characteristics of detected signals with the application of neural network algorithm.

  • This paper describes a diagnostic technique of power transformers by on-line detection of ultrasonic signals. A trend of partial discharge variation in a real transformer was estimated by counting the number of ultrasonic signals until insulation paper in the point-to-plane electrode is punctured. The number of electrical signals is closely related to the ultrasonic signals generated by partial discharge. The trend of the ultrasonic signal number could easily be distinguished by taking moving average. The insulation failure due to partial discharge in transformers can be predicted based on the trend analysis of ultrasonic signal number caused by partial discharge. (author). 14 refs., 10 figs.

  • In this paper, an optical fiber sensor(OF sensor) utilizing the principal of Sagnac interferometer was proposed to detect the discharge signals. The needle-sphere electrode system in insulating oil generated the signals. The performance of OF sensor was checked by sinusoidal calibration signal generated by PZT actuator at 198KHz. The detected discharge signals consisted of acoustic signal and the electrical noise. The noise signal could be removed by digital low pass filter. It was demonstrated that the OF sensor in this research had a possibility to detect the discharge signals in power apparatus.

  • This paper proposed frequency estimation the method of distorted sinusoidal signals by harmoics. An approximate estimation based on FFT and the accurate basic frequency was estimated by proposed method with Fourer Series, and the harmonics were estimated by the basic frequency. The sinusoidal signals is extracted by filter banks based on the estimated hamonics. The rate of basic and hamonics power is estimated by the extracted sinusoidal signals and we developed their algorithm and programs.

  • The signals of the eddy current testing(ECT) for the examination of the steam generator(SG) tubes in the nuclear power plant(NPP) determine the existence, size, and kind of defects using the variation of impedance signals when a testing coil, driven by alternating current, passes through the SG tube contains defects. The aim of this paper is building a database of the RPC probe signals on the basis of the sizes variation of defects and frequency variation of probe. In this paper 3-D numerical analysis of the ECT signals using the finite element method is performed. Through this study, it is shown variation of magnitude and phase of impedance according to variation of defect size and frequency. From the result of this paper, we can obtain the information which is useful in defect discrimination of SG tube in nuclear power plant.
