Electrical insulation and mechanical properties of the plasma sprayed oxide ceramic coatings were studied before and after the sealing treatment of the ceramic coatings. Plasma sprayed A1$_2$O$_3$-TiO$_2$ coating as the reference coating was sealed using three commercial sealants based on polymer. Penetration depth of the sealants to the ceramic coating was evaluated directly from the optical microscope using a fluorescent dye. It is estimated that the penetration depth of the sealants to the ceramic coating is from 0.2 to 0.5 mm depending on the sealants used. The preliminary test results with a DC puncture tester imply that the dielectric breakdown voltage mechanism of plasma sprayed ceramic coatings has been determined to be a corona mechanism. Dielectric breakdown voltage of the as-sprayed and as-ground samples have shown a linear trend with regard to the thickness showing an average dielectric strength of 20 kV/mm for the thickness scale studied. It is also shown that grinding the coating before sealing and adding fluorescent dye do not agent the penetration depth of sealants. All of the microhardness, two-body abrasive wear resistance, bond strength, and surface roughness of the ceramic coating after the sealing treatment are improved. The extent of improvement is different from the sealants used. However, three-point bending stress of the ceramic coating after the sealing treatment is decreased. This is attributed to the reduced micro-crack toughening effect since the cracks propagate easily through the lamellar of the coating without crack deflection and/or branching after the sealing treatment.

In this study, the electrical properties of polymer thin film layered by spin-coating method was investigated, and this polymer is one of the polymer applied to insulation layer for display, this polymer has relatively high dielectric constant, hygroscopic property and easy to make thin film by spin-coating. That is, in this study use the polymer that is cyano acrylate terpolymer, and the MIM(Metal/Insulator/Metal) structures were fabricated to measure the electrical properties such as Voltage-Current characteristics and dielectric characteristics. Also the conductivity and dielectric constant has been calculated. As a result, the conductivity in room temperature was $0.85{\times}10^{-14}{\sim}1.35{\times}10^{-14}$[S/cm]. The fact that this polymer be acted as insulator can be supported by this result. The dielectric constant was calculated as $10.39{\sim}12.05$ higher than Dopont Inc., this make it possible to accumulate more charges in insulation layer under same condition.

Plastic injection molds used for rapid heating and cooling must minimize surface damage due to friction and maintain excellent thermal and low electrical conductivity. Accordingly, various surface treatments are being applied. The properties of Al2O3 coating and DLC coating were compared to find the optimal surface treatment method. Al2O3 coating was deposited by thermal spray method. DLC films were deposited by sputtering process in room temperature and high temperature PECVD (Plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition) process in 723 K temperature. For the evaluation of physical properties, the electrical and thermal conductivity including surface hardness, adhesion and wear resistance were analyzed. The electrical resistance of the all coated samples was showed insulation properties of 24 MΩ/sq or more. Especially, the friction coefficient of high temp. DLC coating was the lowest at 0.134.
Alumina-silica composite coating layers were prepared by electrophoretic deposition (EPD) of plate-shaped alumina particles dispersed in a sol-gel binder, which was prepared by hydrolysis and the condensation reaction of methyltrimethoxysilane in the presence of colloidal silica. The microstructure and the electrical and thermal properties of the coatings were compared according to the EPD process parameter: voltage, time and the content of the plate-shaped alumina particles. The electrical insulation property of the coatings was measured by a voltage test. The coatings were prepared by EPD of the sol-gel binder with 5-30 wt% plate alumina particles on parallel electrodes at a distance of 2 cm for 1-10 min under an applied voltage of 10-30 V. The coatings experienced increased breakdown voltage with increasing thickness. However, the higher the thickness was, the smaller the breakdown voltage strength was. A breakdown voltage as high as 4.6 kV was observed with a $400{\mu}m$ thickness, and a breakdown voltage strength as high as 27 kV/mm was achieved for the sample under a $100{\mu}m$ thickness.
Poly(ester-imide)(PEI) for the electrical insulation coating was synthesized and evaluated with one-step method as well as two-step method. For the synthesis of poly(ester-imide), imide repeat unit of N,N'-(4,4'-diphenylmethane) bistrimellitimide(DID) was initially made from trimellitic anhydride(TMA) and methylene dianiline(MDA), followed by the second stage reaction of esterification. One-step reaction was performed by reaction of TMA, MDA, dimethyl terephthalate(DMT), ethylene glycol(EG), and 1,3,5-tris-(2-hydroxy ethyl) isocyanurate(THEIC) in m-cresol solvent at a time. The synthesized poly(ester-imide) was cured with xylene, P-5030K(phenol-formaldehyde resin), TK-8(TDI type blocked polyisocyanate) and tetrapropyltitanate(TPT). It was found that the content of hydroxyl group, amount of DMT, and imide repeat unit played important role for the properties of electrical insulation coating film.

Iron-based amorphous powder attracts increasing attention because of its excellent soft magnetic properties and low iron loss at high frequencies. The development of an insulating layer on the surface of the amorphous soft magnetic powder is important for minimizing the eddy current loss and enhancing the energy efficiency of high-frequency devices by further increasing the electrical resistivity of the cores. In this study, a hybrid insulating coating layer is investigated to compensate for the limitations of monolithic organic or inorganic coating layers. Fe2O3 nanoparticles are added to the flexible silicon-based epoxy layer to prevent magnetic dilution; in addition TiO2 nanoparticles are added to enhance the mechanical durability of the coating layer. In the hybrid coating layer with optimal composition, the decrease in magnetic permeability and saturation magnetization is suppressed.

This paper is intended as an investigation of study on the thermal and electrical characteristics of the carbon heating element. In this experimentation, the electric material used is the crystalline graphite a kind of natural graphite. The bentonite is used to solidify the heating element and the vacuum furnace is used for sintering it. It is noted that the natural drying time should be at least 58 hours. The plating of the electric pole with the electroless nickel showed the lowest contact resistance among others. The resistance shows linear variation with regard to length. For the insulation and resolution, the glaze coating is best with 80% of water content. The temperature rising characteristic of the heating element is better than sheath heater saving 43% of rising time. The correlation equation for temperature was obtained with the electric power.

Five model coils of 6.6 kV motor were manufactured with several defects. These stator coils have artificial defects such as void of groundwall insulation, removal of semi-conductive coating and damage of strand insulation. Epoxy-mica coupler(80 pF) was connected to five model coil terminals. The voltage applied to the coils was 3.81 kV, 4.76 kV, 6.0 kV and 6.6 kV, respectively. Partial discharge(PD) tests performed in the laboratory and shield room. Digital PD detector(PDD) and turbine generator analyzer(TGA) were used to measure PD activity. TGA summarizes each plot with two quantities such as the normalized quantity number(NQN) and the peak PD magnitude(Qm). The PD levels in pC were measured with PDD. PD patterns of model coils were indicated the internal and slot discharges. PD patterns are consistent with the result of measurement using PDD and TGA instruments. AC breakdown test was performed on five model coils in order to confirm the result of PD measurements. All the failures were located in a line-end coil at the exit from the core slot.

It is necessary to study on the prevention and the management of electrical facilities because the electrical fault took place at the dust occurrence area due to environmental pollution. In particular, the dust accumulates easily on insulation material which is exposed an external long time. Therefore, we measured surface leakage current and surface variation of insulation material due to the dust and salt-water. From the results, the surface of bakelite is bad effect for salt-water than other material. The surface leakage current increases by repeated salt-water pollution and the surface of material is carbonized with arc occurrence. Also, it is need to variation of surface coating and shape of material to repress a leakage current on electrical material.
