  • On-line monitoring system is important for high voltage vacuum circuit breakers (HVCBs) in operation condition assessment and fault diagnosis. A distributed multilayer system with client/server architecture is developed on rated voltage 10kV HVCB with spring operating mechanism. It can collect data when HVCB switches, calculate the necessary parameters, show the operation conditions and provide abundant information for fault diagnosis. Ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD) is used to detect the singular point which is regarded as the contact moment. This method has been applied to on-line monitoring system successfully and its satisfactory effect has been proved through experiments. SVM and FCM are both effective methods for fault diagnosis. A combinative algorithm is designed to judge the faults of HVCB's operating mechanism. The system's precision and stability are confirmed by field tests.

  • In this paper, inter-turn fault diagnosis of the interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) is performed in offline state by linking the finite element analysis (FEA) tool and control simulation tool. In order to diagnose the inter-turn fault, it is important to select the current value to determine the fault. First, the basic principles for inter-turn fault diagnosis of IPMSM are explained and co-analysis model for fault diagnosis is constructed. Further, in order to select the appropriate high frequency voltage, the change of the current value to be judged as failure was analyzed at various voltage and frequency conditions, and the change of the current value according to the number of the failed windings was analyzed. Finally, the current value to be judged as failure is selected.

  • Recently, in accordance with the development of IT technology, it is prevalent for power quality monitors to be connected to each other via networks and share their data because such networks provide system-wide insights to customers concerning power quality. Those systems can alarm and display power quality events for the convenience of customers. However, if a power quality event occurs, it is difficult for customers to determine its cause and solution because the systems do not provide appropriate power quality diagnosis functions. The power quality management system presented in this paper has been developed to provide customers with various power quality diagnosis functions so that they can cope well with power quality problems with the right measure in the right place. This paper presents the structure and functions of the developed power quality management system and shows some results of the power diagnosis functions.

  • This paper has been studied expert system using fuzzy theory for fault diagnosis of HDD test systems by detecting systems fault and presenting the way of repair using test history and rule base built via interview from exports. The rules of fault diagnosis of HDD test systems are classified into 2 types, fuzzy and crisp, and these have been serialized to decide whether fault diagnosis be done or not by fuzzy rules and to present the way of repair by crisp rules. And then this paper has designed expert system using fuzzy theory for fault diagnosis.

  • Method of diagnosis in oriental medicine, the unbalance of the physiological function of the five viscers and six bowels of the human body is determined from time immemorial with the condition of blood circulation which is performed through blood vessels by the vitality of the heart. In oriental medicine, treatment is largely attempted by adjusting this unbalance. The analysis of pulse wave, which mainly measures the changes in blood flows, is to evaluate the shapes of a pulse wave rather than the quantitative changes like rates and strength of the pulse. This paper presents the development of Hardware System and Pulse Diagnosis Algorithm for automatic diagnosis of the pulse wave. This system makes the precise diagnosis and the objective recording possible.

  • In this paper, a fault diagnosis algorithm for brushless DC (BLDC) motor drives is proposed to maintain control performance under switch open-damage. The proposed fault diagnosis algorithm consists of a simple algorithm using measured phase current information and it detects open-circuit faults based on the operating characteristic of BLDC motors. The proposed algorithm quickly recovers control performance due to its short detection time and its reconfiguration of the system topology. It can be embedded into existing BLDC drive software as a subroutine without additional sensors. The feasibility of the proposed fault diagnosis algorithm is proven by simulation and experimental results.

  • It has been proven that the dissolved gas analysis (DGA) is the most effective and convenient method to diagnose the transformers. The DGA is a simple, inexpensive, and non intrusive technique. Among the various diagnosis methods, IEC 60599 has been widely used in transformer in service. But this method cannot offer accurate diagnosis for all the faults. This paper proposes a fault diagnosis method of oil-filled power transformers using DGA and Intelligent Probability Model. To demonstrate the validity of the proposed method, experiment is performed and its results are illustrated.

  • Battery diagnosis is vital to battery-based applications because it ensures system reliability by avoiding battery failure. This paper presents a novel intelligent battery charger with an online diagnosis function to circumvent interruptions in system operation. The charger operates in normal charging and diagnosing modes. The diagnosis function is performed with the impedance spectroscopy technique, which is achieved by injecting a sinusoidal voltage excitation signal to the battery terminals without the need for additional hardware. The impedance spectrum of the battery is calculated based on voltage excitation and current response with the aid of an embedded digital lock in amplifier in a digital signal processor. The measured impedance data are utilized in the application of the complex nonlinear least squares method to extract the battery parameters of the equivalent circuit. These parameters are then compared with the reference values to reach a diagnosis. A prototype of the proposed charger is applied to four valve-regulated lead-acid batteries to measure AC impedance. The results are discussed.

  • In the field of Radiology, the Computer Aided Diagnosis is the technology which gives valuable information for surgical purpose. For its importance, several computer vison methods are processed to obtain useful information of images acquired from the imaging devices such as X-ray, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Computed Tomography (CT). These methods, called pattern recognition, extract features from images and feed them to some machine learning algorithm to find out meaningful patterns. Then the learned machine is then used for exploring patterns from unseen images. The radiologist can therefore easily find the information used for surgical planning or diagnosis of a patient through the Computer Aided Diagnosis. In this paper, we present a review on three widely-used methods applied to Computer Aided Diagnosis. The first one is the image processing methods which enhance meaningful information such as edge and remove the noise. Based on the improved image quality, we explain the second method called segmentation which separates the image into a set of regions. The separated regions such as bone, tissue, organs are then delivered to machine learning algorithms to extract representative information. We expect that this paper gives readers basic knowledges of the Computer Aided Diagnosis and intuition about computer vision methods applied in this area.

  • In this paper, we propose a new diagnosis method of DC/DC converter aging. The method is based on variations of the parasitic resistor for the aging process. We apply an on-line diagnosis of the DC/DC converter because the observation is not a device, but a system. This study proposes a method of DC/DC converter diagnosis by analyzing the variations of model on the variations of parasitic resistor.
