A clinically oriented EEG and EP mapping system was developed with user-friendly interface and easy interactive operations. The system was based on the graphical user interface developed with C/C++ and Software Development Kit (SDK) operated under Microsoft Windows 3.1. Continuous acquisition for the EEG signal and burst mode acquisition for EEG signal syncronized to the external stimuli arc implemented with real time display. A neural network based automatic artifact discrimation is developed and implemented with which examination time can be reduced by a factor of 3 or more. Several bands of spectral maps and spectrums arc displayed for EEG diagnosis. Amplitude maps of EP signal at specified times by operator are displayed together with cine mode of EP maps for dynamic study. Source localization and other statistical signal processing are also included.

In this paper, we aimed to analysis EEG signals related to the relativity between musical stimuli and human brain activity for the arithmetical calculation and present the experimental results. We use two kinds of musical stimuli, one is a sedative tendency music and the other is a stimulative tendency music. The SMR wave and Mid-beta wave are analyzed because of the concentration. In our results, the sedative tendency music is not more interfere with human brain activity for the arithmetical calculations than the stimulative tendency music.
This paper introduces a new zinc coated copper wire electrode with coiled cone shape which has low surface resistance and tolerance to the motion artifact for promontory stimulation electrically auditory brainstem responses (PSEABR). Auditory brainstem responses (ABR) can be used to predict hearing threshold level with a great deal of accuracy particularly for a young child who cannot cooperate mechanically and some hearing impaired who are exaggerating a hearing loss for economic compensation. While severe profound sensorineural hearing losses may not be implemented by auditory potentials, PSEABR is proven as a useful tool even for some sensorineural related hearing impaired. It was shown that PSEABR gives the electrical stimuli to promontory of the cochlear instead of giving acoustic stimuli. For this reason, PSEABR can be used as an alternative for cochlear implantation, and can also be used as an optimal device selection and neural information for MAP. It was found that the role of electrode is very important in PSEABR. Even though this cone-shaped electrode was applied in animal experiments, waveforms are well produced by PSEABR. Thus, it was concluded that cone-shaped electrode turned out to be a useful preoperative audiological evaluation tool in deciding time for cochlear implantation surgery.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of Bee Venom Herb-Acupuncture on the jaw opening reflex evoked by tooth pulp stimulation. Rats were anesthetized with thiopental sodium given intraperitoneally in an initial dose of 80mg/kg. Maintenance doses of 5mg/kg thiopental sodium were given through a cannular in the femoral vein as required to maintain light anesthesia. To apply noxious stimuli, a pair of enameled wires were inserted into the tooth pulp of the lower incisor. The effects of conditioning stimuli were estimated as an indicator of the degree of suppression of the digastric muscle electromyogram(dEMG) in the jaw opening reflex. Bee Venom Herb- Acupuncture(0.2% solution 0.1ml/rat) was injected to Hapgok(LI4) loci. In addition, Normal Saline (0.1ml/rat) was injected to Hapgok loci so as to compare the degree of suppression elicited from Bee-Venom. By administration of Bee Venom Herb-Acupuncture, the amplitude of dEMG was maximally suppressed to $67.5{\pm}3.38%$ ipsilaterally, 73.33{\pm}8.00%$ contralaterally. Generally, the dEMG activities caused by electrical stimulation were gradually suppressed during the stimulation and maximal suppressive effect showed at 15min after its onset. However the dEMG activities by Be Venom Herb-Acupuncture were immediately suppressed after its onset and the suppressive effect continued for a long time compared to electrical stimulation. In conclusion, Bee Venom Herb-Acupuncture may have a different mechanism of analgesia from that of electro-acupuncture and contribute to the modulation of pain analgesia.

A study was carried out to investigate the threshold values of four taste qualities by using electrogustometer for Korean female college students. The mean values of taste threshold before the treatments were for $7.5{\mu}A$, sweet taste area, $19.6{\mu}A$, salty taste area, $23.5{\mu}A$, sour taste area, $18.4{\mu}A$, bitter taste area and $50.7{\mu}A$, middle area, respectively. The thresholds of taste for the each area of tongue of the after-treatments were more sensitive than those of the before-treatments except the after-treatment with sodium chloride in which the sensitivity was much reduced. There were no significant differences between the thresholds of left and right side of the tongue. (p<0.05). Taste qualities of electrical stimuli were also evaluated by using electrogustometer. The major tastes (Approx. 90%) of the feelings for the electrical stimuli were metallic, sour, bitter and salty.
This study was performed to investigate the mechanism of changes in arterial blood pressure, as a typical example of somatosympathetic reflex, induced by activation of muscular afferent nerves. Cats were anesthetized with ${\alpha}-chloraloae$ (60 mg/kg, i.p.). Afferent fibers in muscle nerve were activated by various method muscle contraction, electrical stimulation of muscle nerves, intraarterial injection of some algesic substances and noxious mechanical stimulation etc-and the evoked changes in arterial blood pressure were monitored. The effects of intravenous or direct spinal administration of morphine on the changes in arterial blood pressure induced by activation of the muscle afferent fibers were observed and also the effects of spinal lesions made in the $L1{\sim}L3$ spinal cord on them were studied to identify the ascending spinal pathways of the somatosympathetic reflexes. Followings are the results obtained. 1) The stimulation of medial gastrocnemius nerve under non-paralyzed condition with C-strength, low frequency (lower than 20 Hz) stimuli elicited a depressor response and a pressor response was elicited with C-strength, high frequency stimuli, of which the maximal response was observed at 100 Hz stimulation. 2) When the animal was paralyzed, depressor response to stimulation of the medial gastrocnemius nerve was observed with C-strength, $0.5{\sim}5Hz$ stimuli although the amplitude of the depressor response was decreased. The maximal pressor response was observed during stimulation with C-strength, $20{\sim}100Hz$ stimuli. 3) Intraarterial injection of some algesic substances induced marked pressor responses while noxious mechanical stimulation of the medial gastrocnemius muscle was not enough to elicit any significant changes (larger than 10 mmHg) in arterial blood pressure. 4) Systemically administered morphine (2 mg/kg) lowered the arterial blood pressure immediately and persistently and it was reversed by administration of naloxone. Direct spinally administered morphine did not elicit any changes. 5) The pressor response elicited by the activation of muscle afferent nerves was strengthened by systemic morphine administration while the depressor response tended to decrease. 6) Morphine administered on the spinal cord directly, decreased pressor response but did not change depressor response. From the above results it is concluded that there are separate groups of afferent nerves in the medial gastrocnemius nerve, which elicit pressor and depressor responses and the spinal ascending pathways of them are also separated from each other.

Software and hardware for cochlear implant system have been developed to create a speech signal processing system which, in real-time, extracts model parameter including formants, pitch, amplitude information. The system is based on the Texas Instruments TMS320 family. In hardware, computer interface has been desisted and implemented that allows presentation of biphasic pulse stimuli to patients with the hearing handicapped. The host computer sends a stream of bytes to the parallel port. Upon receipt of the data the interface generates the appropriate burst sequence that is delivered to the patient's external transmitter coil. The coded information is interpreted by the Nucleus-22 internal receiver that delivers the pulse to the specified electrodes at the specified amplitude and pulse width.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of various electroacupuncture duration induced by acupuncture point-Zusanli ($S_{36}$) electrical stimulation on inhibition of amplitude of digastric electromyogram (dEMG) evoked by noxious electrical stimuli around the mental foramen. intraperitoneal sodium pentobarbital in an initial dose of 50mg/kg and maintenance doses of 4.5mg/kg/h were given through a cannula in the femoral vein using a constant infusion pump. A pair of stimulating electrodes were inserted for noxious stimuli around the mental foramen. An irritant electronic stimuli pulse (0.2 Hz, 0.1 ms duration) was produced with an intensity of about $1.5{\times}2$ times threshold for evoking the dEMG. The anterior belly of the digastric muscle was exposed and a pair of 0.1mm wire electrodes were inserted for dEMG recording. Acupuncture point stimulation on Zusanli (2 Hz, 250 ${\mu}s$, biphasic pulse, 2 V) was delivered by Dental Electronic Anesthesia (3M, U.S.A). For periods of electronic stimulation of 10, 20, and 30min, the amplitudes of dEMG were measured on the oscilloscope and on the monitor connected to the amplifier. The following results were obtained: The dEMG was decreased to 73.4% of that in the control set after 10 min electroacupunture stimulation (Group I); The dEMG was decreased to 77.1% (10min), 54.0.% (20min) of that in the control set after 20minutes of electroacupunture stimulation (Group II). The dEMG was decreased to 73.3% (10min), 61.9% (20min), 76.2% (30min) of that in the control set after 30 min of electroacupunture stimulation (Group III). From these results, it may be that in the electroacupuncture stimulation on the Zusnali resulted in a reduction of amplitude of dEMG and that the most effective electroacupuncture stimulation period was 20min.

Recently, researches on analyzing relationship between the state of emotion and musical stimuli are increasing. In many previous works, data sets from all extracted channels are used for pattern classification. But these methods have problems in computational complexity and inaccuracy. This paper proposes a selection of optimal EEG channel to reflect the state of emotion efficiently according to music listening by analyzing stochastic feature vectors. This makes EEG pattern classification relatively simple by reducing the number of dataset to process.
Recently A virtual environment provides patient with stimuli which arouses phobia, and exposing to that environment makes him having ability to over come the fear. ECG and HRV are used in most virtual reality system. GSR is electrical impedance of biological tissues and the changes in impedance accompanying physiological activity. GSR is better than ECG or HRV for explaining mental states in other study. In this study, we will analysis GSR signal when a acrophobia patient and a normal is on high floor.
