Energy Conversion Efficiency Improvement of Piezoelectric Micropower Generator Adopting Low Leakage Diodes (저누설 다이오드를 사용한 저전력 압전발전기의 효율 개선에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we show that, in case of piezoelectric micropower generator, just replacing Schottky diodes in the bridge rectifier with ultra-low reverse leakage current diodes improves the mechanical-to-electrical energy conversion efficiency by more than 100%. Experimental and PSPICE simulation results show that, due to the ultra-low leakage current, the charging speed of the circuit employing PAD1 is higher than that of the circuit employing Schottky diodes and the saturation voltage of the circuit employing PAD1 is also higher. This study suggests that , when the internal impedance of source is very large (a few tens of $M{\Omega}$) such that maximum charging current is a few microamperes or less, in order to realize literally the energy scavenging system, ultra-low reverse leakage current diodes should be used for efficient energy conversion. Since low-level vibration is ubiquitous in the environment ranging from human movement to large infrastructures and the mechanical-to-electrical energy conversion efficiency is much more critical for use of these vibrations, we believe that the improvement in the efficiency using ultra-low leakage diodes, as found in this work, will widen greatly the application of piezoelectric micropower generator.

  • Generally, the conventional battery charging system using an analog method has the large, heavy hardware and low efficiency. Also, it has the disadvantage that it is necessary to replace the control circuit on the basis of the characteristic curve of the specific battery cell. The proposed programmable digital LLC resonant charging system use high efficiency control system(CC-CV), and has characteristic a small hardware and advantage that a digital programming of the voltage, current, and battery capacity characteristics can be flexible. The system proposed the use of Half-bridge LLC resonant converter is possible to improve efficiency and reduce switching losses by using ZVS topology. Further, a constant voltage - constant current(CC-CV) control algorithm apply to the charger which using a buck converter. The performance of the proposed system is demonstrated through experiments.

  • In this paper, we implement a non-time-varying transfer function of the duty ratio to improve the control characteristics in a control system that Input voltage and the output voltage is varied, DC / DC converters for bi-directional charging. When control is performed with using controller gain of conventional design, characteristics of the control is varied to fluctuations of the input voltage. The proposed method is the equivalently removing method for duty ratio in entire control block, by voltage controller gain is changed for inverse of the duty ratio. The proposed non-time-varying duty ratio transfer function is applied to DC / DC converter for bi-directional charging. In this paper, feasibility and superiority is verified through PSIM simulations and experiments.

  • The development of the solar and the wind power energy are necessary since the future alternative energies that have no pollution and no limitation are restricted. Currently power generation system of MW scale has been developed, but it still has a few faults with the weather condition. In order to solve these existing problems, combined generation system of photovoltaic(400w) and wind power generation system(400w) was suggested. It combines wind power and solar energy to have the supporting effect from each other However, since even combined generation system cannot always generate stable output with ever-changing weather condition, power compensation device that uses elastic energy of spiral spring to combined generation system was also added for the present study. In an experiment, when output of system gets lower than 12V(charging voltage), power was continuously supplied to load through the inverter by charging energy obtained from generating rotary energy of spiral spring operates in small scale generator

  • The developments of the hybrid energy are necessary since the future alternative energies that have no pollution and no limitation are restricted. Sub power Generator that uses elastic energy of spiral spring to photovoltaic system was also added for the present system.   • In this paper, the risk of electric shock is analyzed through analysis for characterization of potential distribution analysis and ground fault current analysis near the area where there are occurred a ground fault at electric vehicle wireless charging system using 20kHz. Studies for electric vehicle wireless charging system are in the works for development of efficiency increase, pickup shape design and communication module as a fundamental research step. But the research related to electrical safety and is still scarce state so that more studies are necessary to commercialize. As a result of analysis, it is verified that induced voltage is arisen more up to 45V near the a area of accident during ground fault and fault current has been maintained continuously without clearing fault condition by operating characteristics for circuit breaker and inverter.

  • Wearable devices have become practically indispensable to daily life and helped people track and manage fitness, health, and medical functions etc. As these wearable devices become smaller and more comfortable for the user, the demand for longer run time and charging ways presents new challenges for the power management engineer. Wireless power transfer (WPT) is the technology that forces the power to transmit electromagnetic field to an electrical load through an air gap without interconnecting wires. This technology is widely used for the applications from low power smart phone to high power electric railroad and main electrical grid. There are two kinds of WPT methods: Inductive coupling and magnetic resonant coupling. The model using magnetic resonant coupling method is designed for a resonant frequency of 13.45 MHz. In this study, the hardware implementations of these two coupling methods are carried out, and the efficiencies are compared.

  • In the field of electric vehicles and AGVs, wireless power transfer (WPT) charging systems have been developed recently because of its convenience, reliability, and positive environmental impact due to cable and cord elimination. In this study, we propose a WPT charging system using a single stage AC-DC converter that can be reduced in size and weight and thus can ensure convenience. The proposed single-stage AC-DC converter can control a wide output voltage (36-54 VDC) within coupling ranges by using the variable link voltage applied to the WPT resonant circuit through phase-shifted modulation at a fixed switching frequency. Moreover, the input power factor and total harmonic distortion can be improved by using the proposed converter. A 1 kW prototype that can operate with an air gap range of 40-50 mm is fabricated and validated through experimental results and analysis.

  • Recently, solar module is installed in crowded areas to offers services so that people can charge their smartphones or tablets. However, the burden in terms of cost is high to install in areas where utilization ratio is low and installation is difficult in limited spaces. In this paper, a system for collecting and providing the optical power is proposed from the analysis about the person that receives service in each area using the real-time data provided by the state and collected from the actual environment as well as considering the waiting time and the solar charging time in different environments. As a result, This study shows that charge was not delayed since collecting power exceeds charging power. Smartphone was fully charged in ninety-five minutes. we confirmed that with one smartphone, it can be charged a approximately fifty percent of the battery in between ten to twenty minutes, with multiple units they can be charged a approximately twenty percent of the battery in between ten to twenty minutes.
