UPS management system in the HFC network

  • The HFC network is one of the most useful network for high-speed data communication. Optical node unit, Trunk branch amplifier, Tap-offs, and Uninterrupted power supplies (UPS) are in this network. Since power failures of the equipments in the network is crucial, UPS should be periodically monitored and controlled by the Host to prevent long power failures. This paper describes a UPS management system which is to monitor and control UPS to supply electric power to ONUs and TBAs in the network.

  • 본 연구에서는 최근 상용화된 휴대 가능한 소형 고전압 발생기의 주요 기능과 제원에 대해 소개한다. USB 킬러는 USB 포트를 사용하는 전자기기의 과전압 입력에 대한 보호회로를 시험하기 위한 용도로 개발되었다. USB 포트에서 공급되는 5 V 직류 전압을 발진기, 변압기, 배전압 정류회로를 통해 200 V이상의 충분히 높은 직류 전압으로 변환시킨다. 고용량 커패시터에 충전된 전압을 USB 포트를 통해 역방향으로 전자기기에 충격을 가하여 전자기기를 파괴하거나 보호회로를 시험 할 수 있다. USB 킬러는 개인이 쉽게 구입하여 전자기기를 시험해 볼 수 있다. 인터넷을 통해 공개된 시험 결과들과 실제 시험을 통해 확인된 결과들을 소개한다.

  • In the respect of energy saving and reusing, it is necessary to reduce greenhouse gases emission and to enhance the operation efficiency in electric railway system. Recently, as the power electronics technologies are advanced, some countries have focused on the regenerative inverter to use regeneration energy on each line. When the electric tractions are stopped or slowed down, it is useful to supply the surplus energy to the power source by regenerative system, which increases its energy efficiency. Also, the generated energy can be supply to other tractions or equipments inside traction. Thus, it may help reduce construction cost of additional power plants. The purpose of this study is to describe the development status of the regenerative inverter system which suppress extra DC-line voltage and regenerate the energy instead of using a resister.

수축형 수차발전기 축진동에 관한 연구(I) (A Study for the Shaft Vibration of the Vertical Type Hydro Electric Power Generator)

  • It is the intention of this thesis to discriminate and investigate the cause of the shaft vibration of the vertical type hydroelectric power generator with respect to electrical, mechanical and hydraulic aspects, and to analyze the vibration which will occure by the each cause investigated above. In order to test the shaft vibration of No.1 generator in Hwachon, Korea new measurement method and measuring equipments were designed. In practice the shaft vibration of the generator was measured by above equipments and analyzed by the discriminative method. Detailed explanation for the designed measurement method and instruments is presented, and the results which I had tested three times for the generator No.1 in Hwachon power plant are added. As a appendix the mechanism and causes of the thrust bearing's wear and remarks for the runner are written.

  • The lightning causes the damage of power system equipments as well as large power failure. Therefore, the insulation design should be established not only to decrease the damage of the facilities itself but also to increase the reliability of electric power system. This paper describes the useful way applying underbuilt ground wire and guy wire in transmission tower that safely protect the substation equipments. One or more shield wires under the phase conductor will not intercept lightning stroke, but they may improve reduce lightning voltages almost as effectively as if they were above the phase conductors. And the guy wires will mitigate the tower surge response. These would not only reduce backflashover possibility but also minimize crest and duration of surges entering the substation. EMTP is used to analyze the efficiency of the proposed methods.

  • In this paper, a novel type of auxiliary active snubbing circuit assisted quasi-resonant soft-switching pulse width modulation inverter is proposed for consumer induction heating equipments. The operation principle of this high frequency inverter is described using switching modes and equivalent circuits. This newly developed series resonant high frequency inverter can regulate its high frequency output AC power under a principle of constant frequency active edge resonant soft-switching commutation by asymmetrical PWM control system. The high frequency power regulation and actual power conversion efficiency characteristics of consumer induction heating (IH) products using the proposed soft-switching pulse width modulation (PWM) series load resonant high frequency inverter evaluated. The practical effectiveness and operating performance of high frequency inverter are discussion on the basis of simulation and experimental results as compared with the conventional soft-switching high frequency inverter.

  • This paper introduced an approach of improvement of performance of Electric device for EMU type Train like as TTX. The electric equipments are characterized by insulation, Noise, cooling system etc. and Their weight arc decided by these factors. There are two kinds of power source in EMU train. First, DC voltage source, 1500 volt, 750 volt is used for subway system. Second, AC power source 25000 volt is applied to high speed train and existing main lines. Composite material has the protection of inrush current and high frequency noise. We can use this material to minimize weight of train. Additionally we can get energy saving when operator service TTX.

  • Currently, there is a need for the development of an advanced new technology for Low-and Intermediate-Level Radioactive Waste (LILW) treatment from nuclear power plants. The vitrification and melting technology by the use of the electrical equipments such as induction heater and plasma torch based furnace, along with off-gas treatment are considered as the most promising one of the LILW treatment technology since they can produce a very stable waste forms as well as considerably large volume reduction, which is a world-wide trend to apply for radioactive waste treatment. Korea Electric Power Research Institute(KEPRI) has already completed a feasibility study on LILW treatment and conceptual system design of a demonstration plant to be constructed. For this research, KEPRI selected a cold crucible melter(CCM) for the vitrification of combustible waste, and plasma torch based furnace(PT) for the melting of noncombustible waste, along with off-gas treatment for the volatile radioisotopes such as cesium.

  • The Electromagnetic Interference(EMI) in railway applications is largely due to doing the power conversion for traction and Auxiliary system on the Highspeed Electric Multiple Unit-400X(HEMU-400X). In order to research on EMI in railway applications, it were included how much the HEMU-400X generates it and it has an effect on the equipments of electric system which resulted from Power Line Disturbance (PLD) phenomenon by the loss of contact during its running. In this study, the dynamic characteristic of a contact wire and pantograph suppling electrical power to high-speed trains are investigated. The analysis of the loss of contact based on Power Simulator program software is performed to develop power line disturbance model suitable for high speed operation. It is confirmed that a contact wire and pantograph model are necessary for studying the dynamic behavior of the pantograph system.

  • PV system's islanding occurs when the uitilty grid is removed but local sources continue to operate and provide power to local loads. Islanding is one of the serious problems in an electric power system connected with dispersed power sources. Also, this can present safety hazards and the possibility of damage to other electric equipments. If the real and reactive power of RLC load and PV system are closely matched, islanding detection by passive methods becomes difficult. Novel islanding detection method is proposed for grid-connected PV system.
