전기자동차 충전기의 누전차단기 감도 전류 Trip 방지를 위한 Joule Heating 시뮬레이션 방안연구 (A Study on Joule Heating Simulation Method to Prevent Sensitivity Current Trip of Electric Vehicle Charger)

  • 본 논문에서는 충전 시 발생하는 누전차단기 Trip으로 충전 중단에 의한 전기자동차 사용자의 불편함을 방지하기 위한 것이다. 현장 사례연구로 충전기 고장(failure) 유형, 차종별 누설전류 측정실험, 누전차단기 동작 실험 시 여름철 충전기 내부 온도가 60 ℃이상까지 상승하여 누전차단기가 정격 감도 전류의 80%에서 Trip으로 충전 중단됨을 확인하였다. Joule Heating 모델링을 통하여 32A 전류를 초기 시간 t=0 (s)의 기준온도 30℃에서 통전하여 t=3000 (s)경과 후에는 누전차단기 충전부 주위에서 발열이 32.4℃까지 증가함을 시뮬레이션으로 확인하였으며, 통계 검증 tool을 활용하여 온도 및 시간(s) 요인이 발생 열량에 상관관계 0.97로 검증되었다. 본 논문의 연구 실험 결과는 충전기 기구 물 개발 시 충전케이스의 재질, 내부 배선의 배치, 유전 매질에 따른 Joule Heating 시뮬레이션 수행으로 여름철 충전기 내부 온도 상승에 의한 누전차단기 감도 전류 Trip을 방지할 수 있음을 알 수 있었다.

전기차 배터리 충전기용 강인한 단위 입력 역률 제어장치 (Robust and Unity Input Power Factor Control Scheme for Electric Vehicle Battery Charger)

  • This study develops a digital control scheme with power factor correction for a front-end converter in an electric vehicle battery charger. The front-end converter acts as the boost-type switching-mode rectifier. The converter assumes the two roles of the battery charger, which include power factor control and robust charging performance. The proposed control scheme consists of a charging control algorithm and a grid current control algorithm. The scheme aims to obtain unity input power factor and robust performance. Based on the linear average model of the converter, a constant-current constant-voltage charging control algorithm that passes through only one proportional-integral controller and a current feed-forward path is proposed. In the current control algorithm, we utilized a second band pass filter, a single-phase phase-locked loop technique, and a duty-ratio feed-forward term to control the grid current to be in phase with the grid voltage and achieve pure sinusoidal waveform. Simulations and experiments were conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme, both simulations and experiments.

  • Inductive Power Transfer (IPT) method becomes more and more popular for the Electric Vehicle (EV) battery charger due to its convenience and safety in comparison with plugged-in charger. In recent years, Lithium batteries are increasingly used in EVs and Constant Current/Constant Voltage (CC/CV) charge needs to be adopted for the high efficiency charge. However, it is not easy to design the IPT Battery Charger which can charge the battery with CC/CV charge under the wide range of load variation due to the wide range of variation in its operating frequency. This paper propose a new design and control method which makes it possible to implement the CC/CV mode charge with minimum frequency variation (less than 1kHz) during all over the charge process. A 6.6kW prototype charge has been implemented and 96.1% efficiency was achieved with 20cm air gap between the coils.

Corona Discharge Characteristics and Particle Losses in a Unipolar Corona-needle Charger Obtained through Numerical and Experimental Studies

  • In this paper, the unipolar corona-needle charger was developed and its capabilities were both numerically and experimentally investigated. The experimental corona discharges and particle losses in the charger were obtained at different corona voltage, aerosol flow rate and particle diameter for positive and negative coronas. Inside the charger, the electric field and charge distribution and the transport behavior of the charged particle were predicted by a numerical simulation. The experimental results yielded the highest ion number concentrations of about $1.087{\times}10^{15}ions/m^3$ for a positive corona voltage of about 3.2 kV, and $1.247{\times}10^{16}ions/m^3$ for a negative corona voltage of about 2.9 kV, and the highest $N_it$ product for positive and negative coronas was found to about $7.53{\times}10^{13}$ and $8.65{\times}10^{14}ions/m^3$ s was occurred at the positive and negative corona voltages of about 3.2 and 2.9 kV, respectively, and the flow rate of 0.3 L/min. The highest diffusion loss was found to occur at particles with diameter of 30 nm to be about 62.50 and 19.33 % for the aerosol flow rate of 0.3 and 1.5 L/min, respectively, and the highest electrostatic loss was found to occur at particles with diameters of 75 and 50 nm to be about 86.29 and 72.92 % for positive and negative corona voltages of about 2.9 and 2.5 kV, respectively. The numerical results for the electric field distribution and the charged particles migration inside the charger were used to guide the description of the electric field and the behavior of charged particle trajectories to improve the design and refinement of a unipolar corona-needle charger that otherwise could not be seen from the experimental data.

  • In the battery based applications such as electric vehicle and energy storage system, the performance of the system highly depends on the reliability of the battery. However, it is difficult to obtain the accurate information about the state-of-health (SOH) of battery during its operation. In this paper a 3kw battery charger with battery diagnosis function which can estimate the SOH of the battery by using online impedance spectroscopy technique is introduced. For the charger phase shift full bridge converter with synchronous rectification has been adopted to implement the charge and diagnosis functions. The impedance spectroscopy is performed after the charge to obtain the information about the internal impedance of the battery module, hence the SOH can be estimated online by observing the impedance variation of the battery over time. All the design procedure of the proposed charger is detailed and the feasibility of the system is verified by the experimental results.

간접 광대전에 의한 서브 마이크론 입자의 단극하전 특성 (The Unipolar Charging Characteristics of Submicron Particles by Using an Indirect Photoelectric Charging)

  • A new unipolar aerosol charger was developed by using an indirect photoelectric charging. The charger consists of two coaxial tubes, the inner UV lamp wrapped with stainless mesh and the outer Al cylinder. In this study, the effects of flow rate, particle size, and electric field were examined to search the optimal charging conditions with experimental and numerical methods. Monodisperse NaCl particles were fed into an annular space and the particles were charged by negative ions generated from Al plate exposed to the UV light. According to experimental results, the average number of elementary charge on particles increases from 2.5 to 5.5 as particle size increases from 50nm to 130nm at 2.5 L/min and 100V. The average number of elementary charge on particles was maximized at 25V as the electric potential between the stainless mesh and Al plate was varied from 0V to 400V.

An Effective Control Scheme for Battery Charger System in Electric Vehicles

  • This paper presents an effective control scheme for an electric vehicle battery charger where a symmetrical bridgeless power factor-corrected converter and a buck converter are cascaded. Both converters have been popular in industries because of their high efficiency, low cost, and compact size, hence combining these converters makes the overall battery charging system strongly efficient. Moreover, this charger topology can operate at universal input voltage and attain a desired battery current and voltage without ripple. In order to achieve a unity input power factor and zero input current harmonic distortion, the proposed control scheme adopts duty ratio feed-forward control technique in both current and voltage control loop. Additionally, in the current loop, its reference is created by a phase-locked loop (PLL) block, leading to a pure sinusoidal input current although the input voltage waveform is being distorted. The feasibility and practical value of the proposed approach are verified by simulation and experiment with an 110V/60Hz ac line input and 1.5kW-72V dc output of the battery charging system.

Reduction of DC-Link Capacitance in Single-Phase Non-Isolated Onboard Battery Chargers

  • This paper proposes a single-phase non-isolated onboard battery charger (OBC) for electric vehicles (EVs) that only uses small film capacitors at the DC-link of the AC-DC converter. In the proposed charger, an isolated DC-DC converter for low-voltage batteries is used as an active power decoupling (APD) circuit to absorb the ripple power when a high-voltage (HV) battery is charged. As a result, the DC-link capacitance in the AC-DC converter of the HV charging circuit can be significantly reduced without requiring any additional devices. In addition, some of the components of the proposed circuit are shared in common for the different operating modes among the AC-DC converter, LV charging circuit and active power filter. Therefore, the cost and volume of the onboard battery charger can be reduced. The effectiveness of the proposed topology has been verified by the simulation and experimental results.

CAN 통신 기반 충전 모니터링 시스템 설계 및 구현 (Design and Implementation of Charger Monitoring System Based on CAN Protocol)

  • 본 논문에서는 전기자동차의 보급 확대에 따른 충전 인프라 구축을 위해서 차량의 충전 시 충전상태를 모니터링 할 수 있는 충전 모니터링 시스템의 설계 방법을 제안하였다. 급속충전 기술은 현재 battery의 성능 및 안전성 등 다양한 요인에 따라 동작성능이 좌우되므로 모니터링 시스템에 의한 충전상태 파악은 충전 알고리즘의 개선, 전기자동차 BMS와 연동, 사용자와의 충전 프로세스 제어 등 다양한 작업환경과 연계되어 있다. 급속충전시스템의 동작상태를 CAN 프로토콜을 이용하여 배터리의 충전 상태 등을 실시간으로 감시가 가능한 시스템을 설계 제작하여 전기자동차용 battery를 최단시간에 최적화된 상태로 충전 가능하도록 CAN 통신기반 급속충전 모니터링 시스템을 설계하는 방법을 제안하고 시스템을 구현하여 성능을 확인하였다.

  • This paper describes the process of optimal resonant frequency design with full-bridge series-loaded resonant dc-dc converter in a high efficiency 3.3 kW on-board battery charger application for Electric Vehicles and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles. The optimal range of resonant frequency and switching frequency used for ZVS are determined by considering trade-off between loss of switching devices and resonant network with size of passive/magnetic devices. In addition, it is defined charging region of battery, the load of on-board charger, as the area of load by deliberating the characteristic of resonant. It is verified the designed frequency band by reflecting the defined area on resonant frequency.
