  • Recently, an electricity sensor system has been installed and operated to prevent failures and accidents by identifying whether a transformer is normal in advance of failure. This electricity sensor system is able to both measure and monitor the transformer's power and voltage remotely and send information to a manager when unusual operation is discovered. However, a battery is required to operate power detection devices, and battery systems need ongoing management such as regular replacement. In addition, at a maintenance cost, occasional human resources and worker safety problems arise. Accordingly, we apply a linear electromagnetic generator using vibration energy from a transformer for an electric sensor system's drive in this research and we conduct optimal design to maximize the linear electromagnetic generator's power. We consider design variables using the provided design method from Process Integration, Automation, and Optimization (PIAnO), which is common tool from process integration and design optimization (PIDO). In addition, we analyze the experiment point from the design of the experiments using "MAXWELL," which is a common electromagnet analysis program. We then create an approximate model and conduct accuracy verification. Finally, we determine the optimal model that generates the maximum power using the proven approximate kriging model and evolutionary optimization algorithm, which we then confirm via simulation.

  • This paper proposes a torque assist strategy for operating a hybrid agricultural tractor in the field. In general, different field operations such as baling and rotary tillage require different patterns and amounts of torque. Thus, a large agricultural tractor is used to improve the farming efficiency. Therefore, this research has the goal of developing a hybrid tractor that uses a small electric motor to provide additional torque for specific field operations. To achieve this objective, a rule-based torque assist strategy is proposed and validated for a simulation model in the Autonomie framework, which is a commercial simulation tool. Finally, the work efficiencies and fuel consumptions of a conventional tractor and the hybrid tractor with the proposed torque assist strategy are compared using simulations.

  • The second part of paper related rotor failure is to evaluate that the axial magnetic flux measurement could be used as a tool of the condition monitoring system for the induction motor and to develope the diagnostic algorithm for the various fault in the electric motors. The magnetic leakage flux signal is captured by the flux coil located at the end of motor without the disturbance of the operation. And the signal is analyzed both time and frequency domain to detect the failure of the motor. Specific signature can be described in tin and frequency domain for each fault of the motor. The experimental test found that the rotor failures - broken rotor bar, broken end ing and rotor eccentricity, could be detected from the spectrum with high resolution. The method of detecting the rotor fault was found by analysing the specific frequency and the sideband of the rotor bar pass frequency from axial leakage flux spectrum. In addition the optimal flux coil and measuring equipment for the axial leakage flux measurement was verified and the diagnostic method for the detection of the rotor related failure was developed.

  • Background: The study aimed to determine if ultrasonography of masseter can be used to evaluate the outcome of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) in subjects with temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) such as myositis and myofascial pain. Methods: Fifteen TMD subjects with myofascial pain/myositis who satisfied the RDC/McNeil criteria were included in the study. All the subjects were administered TENS therapy for a period of 6 days (30 minutes per session). The mouth opening (in millimeters) and severity of pain (visual analogue scale score) and ultrasonographic thickness of the masseter (in millimeters) in the region of trigger/tender areas was assessed in all the subjects both prior and post TENS therapy. A comparison of the pre-treatment and post-treatment values of the VAS score, mouth opening and masseter thickness was done with the help of a t-test. Results: There was a significant reduction in the thickness of masseter muscle (P = 0.028) and VAS scores (P < 0.001) post TENS therapy. There was also a significant improvement in the mouth opening (P = 0.011) post TENS therapy. Conclusions: In the present study, ultrasonography was found to be an effective measuring tool in the assessment of TENS therapy in subjects with myositis and myofascial pain.

  • In this paper, we proposed a method of the resonant frequency shift of a microstrip patch antenna using $LiNbO_3$, PVDF and FR-4 substrates. We designed and analyzed from these parametars optimized using Ensemble V 7.0 of the simulation tool. We observed the resonant frequency by DC appled electric field in a microstrip patch antenna. When $LiNbO_3$ substrate were applied from -300 to 300 V/mm, we obtained the resonant frequency shift of maximum 29 MHz. The microstrip patch antenna with PVDF (poly vinylidene fluoride) substrate, we obtained the resonant frequency shift of maximum 17 MHz at frequency 6 GHz. but when Epoxy FR-4 substrates used, the resonant frequency does not changed. This results showed the resonant frequency shift without physical strains in a microstrip patch antenna.

  • Objectives: A meta-analysis of the literatures was conducted to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of medical nutrition therapy by dietitians. Methods : The 30 studies were identified from a computerized search of published research on MEDLINE, Science-Direct and the PQD database until May, 2002 and a review of reference lists. The main search terms were“dietitian”,“dietary intervention”,“nutrition intervention”, “cost”,“cost-effectiveness”and“cost-benefit analysis”. The subgroup analysis was performed by publication year, study design, intervention provider, type of patient (in/out-patient) and type of cost (total cost/direct cost). Two reviewers independently selected trials for inclusion, assessed the quality and extracted the data. Results : The 30 studies were identified using the electric database search and bibliographies. The 17 trials were eligible for inclusion criteria, then the systematic review and a meta-analysis were conducted on effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of medical nutrition therapy. The quality of the studies was evaluated using the quality assessment tool for observational studies. The quality score was 0.515 $\pm$ 0.121 (range : 0.279-0.711, median : 0.466). The meta-analysis of 17 studies based on the random effect model showed that medical nutrition therapy was highly effective in treating the diseases (effect size 0.3092 : 95% confidence interval 0.2282-0.3303). The vote-counting method, one of meta-analysis methods, was applied to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of medical nutrition therapy conducted by dietitians. Two criteria (method 1, method 2) for voting were used. The calculated p-values for method 1 (more conservative method) and method 2 (less conservative method) were 0.1250 and 0.0106, respectively. Medical nutrition therapy by dietitians was significantly cost-effective in the method 2. Conclusion. This meta-analysis showed that the effectiveness of medical nutrition therapy was statistically significant in treating disease (effect size 0.3092), and that the cost-effectiveness of medical nutrition therapy was statistically significant in the method 2 (less conservative method) of vote counting. • During the last two decades the laser beam has progressed from a sophisticated laboratory apparatus to an adaptable and viable industrial tool. Especially, in its welding mode, the laser offers high travel speed, low distortion, and narrow fusion and heat-affected zones (HAZ). The principal obstacle to selection of a laser processing method in production is its relatively high equipment cost and the natural unwillingness of production supervision to try something new until it is thoroughly proven. The major objective of this work is focused on the combined features of gas tungsten arc and a low-power cold laser beam. Although high-power laser beams have been combined with the plasma from a gas tungsten arc (GTA) torch for use in welding as early as 1980, recent work at the Ohio State University has employed a low power laser beam to initiate, direct, and concentrate a gas tungsten arcs. In this work, the laser beam from a 7 watts carbon monoxide laser was combined with electrical discharges from a short-pulsed capacitive discharge GTA welding power supply. When the low power CO laser beam passes through a special composition shielding gas, the CO molecules in the gas absorbs the radiation, and ionizes through a process known as non-equilibrium, vibration-vibration pumping. The resulting laser-induced plasma (LIP) was positioned between various configurations of electrodes. The high-voltage impulse applied to the electrodes forced rapid electrical breakdown between the electrodes. Electrical discharges between tungsten electrodes and aluminum sheet specimens followed the ionized path provided by LIP. The result was well focused melted spots.

  • Most of the current traffic signal controller use load switches to transmit high voltage power to the signal lamps. The direct transmission of high voltage power may cause a lot of problems like leakages of electric power, obstructions of pedestrian, environmental disfigurements. To overcome these problems, the development of digital type signal controller has been trying in the various methods. Digital communication between a master controller and signal lamps is the most important part to improve control performance in the digital type controller. A communication system for the digital signal controller was developed in this study. The system bases on CAN specification, includes ID structure for most peripheral devices like loops, signal lamps, push buttons, police switches. The operability of this system verified with a software based CAN simulation tool.

  • The Social Overhead Capital contains roads, railroad system, airports, seaport, waterworks, electric power plants, and etc. This SOC is very important, not only as a national economic competitiveness factor, but also as a national security factor. For example, 'Freedom Express Way' works as a tool of psychological warfare to the North Korea, as well as an economics infrastructure. In spite of that, until now on, we have disregarded the SOC as a national security factor. Constructing the SOC, only considering economic cost, we have not fulfilled other purpose requirement like stable national security, balanced development. When we invest the money to construct the SOC, considering multi-purpose requirement like military purpose, economic purpose, social purpose and cultural purpose, as a whole national wide point of view, the scares national resources and government budgets will be saved.
