Patients with disabilities from various reasons such as disasters, injuries or chronic illness or elderly with limited body motion range due to aging are recommended to participate in rehabilitation programs at hospitals. But typically, it's not as simple for them to commute without help as they have limited access outside of the home. Also, regarding the perspectives of hospitals, having to maintain the workforce and have them take care of the rehabilitation sessions leads them to more expenses in cost aspects. For those reasons, in this paper, a home-based remote rehabilitation system using motion recognition is developed without needing help from others. This system can be executed by a personal computer and a stereo camera at home, the real-time user motion status is monitored using motion recognition feature. The system tracks the joint range of motion(Joint ROM) of particular body parts of users to check the body function improvement. For demonstration, total of 4 subjects with various ages and health conditions participated in this project. Their motion data were collected during all 3 exercise sessions, and each session was repeated 9 times per person and was compared in the results.

This study was conducted to investigate dietary factors, bone status, and bone loss in postmenopausal women in rural areas. A total of 189 women participated in the follow-up study after two years. Radius, Tibia, and Phalanx SOS (Speed of Sound) was measured on two occasions 2 years apart by ultra-sonic-metry, and % body fat was measured by bioelectrical impedance analysis at the baseline and after 2years. Dietary intake data were collected 4 times at different season by 24-hour recall method, and then calculated as average. Bone density of radius decreased by 4.2% during the two year period. When the subjects were divided into three groups, by bone decline level during two years, the lowest bone loss group had higher potassium and vegetable intake than other groups. Age and calcium intakes showed significant correlation with bone decline rate at tibia. In multiple regressions, the baseline SOS, vitamin A, vegetables and eggs intakes were found to be significant factors for tibia bone decline. In conclusion, dietary factors, such as higher vegetable intake, seem to affect the changes in bone mineral density in more favorable way. Therefore, efforts are needed to enhance the access to nutritional care for rural elderly postmenopausal women.
Objective : This study aims to obtain the validation of Korean version of HOME FAST using the translation-back translation process and to evaluate the reliability. Methods : Total three stages were conducted which includes forward translation to Korean, test for degree of understanding of translated version, back translation to English, and then review and proof reading process. 21 occupational therapists were participated in the evaluation of understanding of Korean-translated HOME FAST, then some of expressions were modified for better understanding. Purpose: The study examined the poisoned patients' characteristics nationwide in Korea by using data from the National Emergency Department Information System (NEDIS). Methods: Among the patients' information sent to NEDIS from January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2015, the included subjects' main diagnosis in ED showed poisoning according to the 7th edition of the Korean Standard Disease Classification (KCD-7). We analyzed the patients' gender, age, initial vital signs, visit time, stay time of staying in ED, results of ED care, main diagnosis in ED, length of hospitalization, and results of hospitalization. Results: A total of 106,779 ED visits were included in the analysis. There were 55,878 males (52.3%), which was more than the number of females. The number of intentional poisoning was 49,805 (59.6%). 75,499 cases (70.8%) were discharged, and 25,858 cases (24.2%) were hospitalized. The numbers of poisoning patients per 1,000 ED visits were 14 in Chungnam and 11.9 in Jeonbuk. The most common cause of poisoning, according to the main diagnosis, was venomous animals. It was the same for hospitalized patients, and pesticide was next. Pesticide was the most common cause of mortality in ED (228 cases, 46.1%) and after hospitalization (584 cases, 54.9%). The incidence of poisoning by age group was frequent for patients in their 30s to 50s, and mortality in ED and post-hospitalization were frequent for patients in their 60s to 80s. Conclusion: This study investigated the characteristics of poisoning patients reported in the past 3 years. Pesticide poisoning had a high mortality rate for patients in ED and in-hospital. For mortality, there was a high proportion of elderly people over 60. Thus, policy and medical measures are needed to reduce this problem. Since it is difficult to identify the poison substance in detail due to nature of this study, it is necessary to build a database and monitoring system for monitoring the causative substance and enacting countermeasures.
This study was conducted to analyze the relationship between the practice of aerobic exercise and the prevalence and risk of arthritis with comorbid chronic diseases. For this study, the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2017-2019 data were used and 17,356 people were selected as subjects. The relationship between the practice of aerobic exercise and the prevalence and risk of arthritis according to demographic characteristics and chronic diseases was analyzed by the chi-square independence test and Breslow-Day test. While the rate of aerobic exercise was low among women, the elderly, the low-income group, the low-education group, and people living in rural areas, the prevalence and risk of arthritis were relatively high. And in the chronic disease-positive group, those who practiced aerobic exercise had a relatively lower prevalence and risk of arthritis than those who did not. In particular, the practice of aerobic exercise was an effective complement in reducing the prevalence and risk of arthritis in people with high blood pressure, diabetes, and dyslipidemia. Therefore, the practice of aerobic exercise such as walking, slow running, and aerobic dance should be recommended in terms of the preventive medicine and health care to people who are in the group with a high prevalence of arthritis in demographic characteristics and people who have comorbid chronic diseases.
This study was designed to examine the factors effecting the positive psychological capital of social workers at senior welfare centers on job burnout. The subjects were 350 social workers who care for the elderly at senior welfare centers in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. Based on a total 344 data collected and using the SPSS 22.0 statistical program. Reliability test, frequency analysis, t-test, One-way ANOVA, correlation analysis and Multiple regression analysis were performed. The results showed that positive psychological capital had a statistically significant negative effect (-) on emotional exhaustion, a sub variable of job burnout and depersonalization. The effect of sub-variables of positive psychological capital on emotional depletion and depersonalization was in order of optimism> resilience> hope> self-efficacy. Lastly, it was found that positive psychological capital had a statistically significant negative effect(-) on decreased sense of accomplishment. The effect of sub-variables of positive psychological capital on decreased sense of accomplishment was in order of optimism> hope > self-efficacy > resilience. The effect of positive psychological capital on decreased sense of accomplishment was not significant depending on sub-variables. Based on the results of this study, suggestions, the limits of this study, and future directions for research were presented for the improvement of positive psychological capital, which is confirmed as a factor to reduce the job burnout of social workers.
The development of bio-sensing technology made it easy to collect various biometric information that was only available in large medical devices. The miniaturization of sensors makes it simple to carry out various health checkups that It did in person to the hospital by improving the portability of diagnostic devices. It is able to combine sensors into portable devices such as Smartphones, apply advanced Internet of Things (IOT) technology, and create new form factors for medical devices such as ultra-small modules that can be inserted or attached to their bodies. The results can be checked immediately through portable information devices such as smart phones. Although commercialization is still slow in Korea, new technologies are being applied in various ways in countries such as the United States that have granted remote medical services. Medical demand, supply and cost in South Korea are growing ahead of a super-aged society. Under these circumstances, attention is focusing on whether smart healthcare, a new concept, can complement the existing medical system. This study identifies the technology trends associated with smart health care and categorizes various healthcare products in the UX design aspects. In addition, the UX design approach and guidelines for applying smart healthcare technologies to the elderly, the intended users, are presented. This research will provide a reference to a new social issue, the UX-design approach to solving the problems of the aged society.
As the demand for elderly care service has been on rise due to the increasing of the aging population, the role of visiting caregivers becomes increasingly important. In this context, this study aims to examine whether there are moderating effects of social support and self-efficacy on the relationship between resilience of visiting caregivers and their burnouts. The hierarchical regression analysis was used for statistical analysis. The findings from the study are as follow. First, resilience has a negative effect on burnout. As the resilience increases, the burnout decreases. Second, social support has moderating effects on the relationship between a resilience sub-variable(positivity) and burnout. Third, self-efficacy has a moderating effect on the relationship between a resilience sub-variable(self-regulation) and burnout. The findings of the study suggest that nursing facilities pay attention to psychological characteristics of visiting caregivers as well as their job characteristics in designing burnout prevention programs for them.

For frailty management, the importance of resistance exercise has been emphasized, and various devices have been developed. Recently, digital weight control technology that converts electromagnetic resistance to a digital weight is attracting attention, but there are no reports confirming the effectiveness and safety of the device for seniors in Korea. This study conducted a biomechanic-based ergonomic analysis of an elderly-friendly exercise device utilized in digital load control technology to suggest a direction for development. Twenty seniors (age: 62.40 ± 2.09 years) were included. The load of the device was classified into three levels, and the muscle activity and heart rate were assessed during three experimental motions. A questionnaire based on the International Organization for Standardization 9241-11 was adopted to evaluate the stability, operationality, efficiency, and satisfaction with the software and device. The program could be divided into three exercise intensities that can be utilized in the field depending on whether the exercise load, muscle activity, and heart rate were consistent. The monitor size needed to be enlarged to make the menu Korean, reduce the device size, and minimize noise. Considering these findings, the development of an advanced age-friendly exercise device by improving the size, display, and noise is suggested.
