  • The purpose of this preliminary study was to investigate the effect of fall prevention program on the occurrence of falls in inpatients at general hospital. Before the intervention, we identified the occurrence of the rate of falls in I hospital at Incheon and 190 patients received rehabilitation treatment. The causes of falls were carelessness of caregivers and therapists, increased burden of therapists, and height of beds. After recognizing the problems, the authors developed a fall prevention program through the PDCA model. The fall prevention program consisted of a video of fall prevention education and education for the patients and caregivers, environmental improvement and education of therapists for two months. After intervention, 230 patients were subjected to be included as analysis of the incidence of falls included As a result, the fall incidence was reduced by 34.1~66.7% in the pain clinic and 21.3~40.8% in the exercise clinic / department of occupational therapy compared to the before intervention. These findings show that the fall prevention program has a positive effect on the fall of inpatients, and it can be used as a model for fall prevention.

In tuberculosis pleural effusion, the rate of positive smear and culture for acid-fast bacilli in the pleural fluid was 3.7% and positive biopsy for granuloma 75%. 3. In malignant pleural effusion, the rate of positive cytology for cancer cell in the fluid was 42% and positive biopsy 60%. 4. Analysis in tuberculosis and malignancy showed the tendency of high pH, WBC, protein and of low glucose, but there were clinically not significant in differentiating malignant pleural effusion from tuberculous pleural effusion. 5. • The purpose of this study is to propose actual operation condition of Japanese lecture based on social welfare organizations located in Seoul to investigate the current status and problems of Japanese language education in terms of lifelong education. According to the result of this study, the remarkable point was that a majority of Japanese lecture courses are highly focused on the elderly and 86% of the welfare organizations are providing free education. Regarding the effect of specialized business for the aged run by social welfare community center, it says, as Korea changing to aging society at the beginning of 21st century, it has put focus on strengthening personal competences of seniors through opportunities for participation in lifelong education, recreational activity programs and culture classes. It means foreign language classes are operating as one of the lifelong education programs for reinforcement of individual capability. Considering this tendency, it is expected that the lifelong education participation rate of the elder in Seoul will be raised. So, systematic improvements will be needed for this. First, it is required to recognize the existence of Educational and Cultural Industry and work hard to make it public so it could be invigorated and utilized by people usefully at the same time. Second, Japanese language training that mostly 55-year-old or more than 60-year-old people receive at the welfare center needs to be systematized for preparations on proper studying environment which provides the older with appropriate education method and content as well. Third, stable and systematic operation should be available through the link with experts in the field of Japanese language education and elderly education. Fourth, education program development is needed, which is able to satisfy one's desires for learning. Hence, targeting Japanese learners at each welfare center, we need to know the estimation of satisfaction degree and consciousness on learning Japanese. Finally, it has not been studied sufficiently regarding the instructors on teaching Japanese language in this paper, but it has been reported that most of social welfare centers, where Japanese language lectures are provided, are run by volunteers who can teach Japanese. Thus, the study on actual condition for Japanese language instructors will be conducted as well later on.

  • This quasi-experimental study examined the experience of simulation clothes and its effects among undergraduate nursing students. Method: The experimental group consisted of 44 sophomore students in a diploma nursing program, while 41 students comprised the comparison group. Only the experimental group experienced the functional decline of aging after taking on simulation clothes. Homogeneity between the groups was analyzed using t-test, and Fisher's exact test. Paired t-test and t-test were adopted for testing changes of attitudes and awareness of supporting elders. In addition, contents of students' reports of the aging simulation experience were analyzed. Results: No significant quantitative effect was observed in attitudes toward elders and awareness of supporting elders. However, the simulation experience seemed to have enhanced students' understanding of elders and of basic elder care as well. Furthermore, the students could think of preparing for their later lives. Conclusion: The experience of simulation clothes is a meaningful learning opportunity in gerontological nursing curriculum. Students' experiences need to be shared and reinforced in a discussion session. Safety should be secured in the process of the experience. The simulation experience can be further developed to raise its quality.

  • The main purpose of this study is to figure out the spending tendency of elderly consumers for their grandchildren. To this end, a detailed survey was carried out for two months from October 1 to November 30, 2011. The respondents consist of 461 elderly consumers over 60s who have grandchildren in elementary grades. Among the gathered data, relevant information was sorted out, coded, and then turned into statistical figures through SPSS 18.0 program. The outcome of this research is explained in the following three respects. First of all, based upon factor and cluster analysis, the role of grandparents has been divided into three categories, which are a babysitter, a friend and a visitor. Depending on their role, the surveyed elderly have been split into three groups-'Friend Group', 'Formal Visitor Group', 'Attached Group'. Second, to give you an overview of the consumption trend of the three groups, this study has reviewed the expenditure items, spending amount and consumption patterns, and made a list of products and services they purchased for the past one year for their grandchildren. Third, given the probability of wealth transfer to the next generation, there is a compelling need to figure out the purchase pattern of financial products. The elderly have been categorized into those with bank deposits only and those with a mixture of bank deposits and other financial products (insurance, fund, stocks, gold, dollar etc.).

The direct effects of variables affecting health promoting behaviors were social support, depression, family support, subjective health status, and helplessness. These variables accounted for 66% of health promoting behaviors. Depression, helplessness had a significant indirect effect on family support and social support, and subjective health status had a significant indirect effect on social support, but didn't have a significant indirect effect on family support.
